Babar Azam breaks Javed Miandad's record for most runs by a Pakistani at a World Cup

I love watching him bat.

Hopefully he can hit beast mode in tests as well so that big four will be big five soon..

You are comparing him with with the players with more than 150 ODI matches. Good players get better with experience

No, I am only comparing the runs scored by Babar against his peers, in this WC, who have played approx the same # of matches (8 or 9) and highlighted the fact that though he broke JM's record for most runs in a WC, his record in coparison to most runs scored isn't anything exceptional.

You moved the goalpost by bringing age, experience and other factors when all that is irrelevant for what this post is about.

Whether Babar outperformed everyone else at 24 isn't relevant either. The folks you are comparing him with played in a different time, anywhere from 8 - 15 years ago depending on who you are comparing him with. A fair comparison for Babar should be someone his age.

Let him play another few years before we start comparing him to the likes of Lara, Kohli & ABD

Babar is gifted in timing, bit like sharmaji. I can easily see him breaking all Pakistan batting records but it would be interesting how he approaches different situations in different formats. I think playing Tests will help his mental game and will blossom even more. He is one pakistani player i like watching play. Gotta appreciate talent when you see it!

I understand you are just comparing runs and saying it ordinary based upon that but, how are Rohit Sharma, Williamson, Warner etc all have atleast 100+ ODIs more than Babar in terms of experience, I still cant understand how that peer comparison is a valid one. If you are saying its ordinary by comparing him to much more well established and experienced names by not even taking into account their time at international level then in my opinion I dont think this comparison works. You are comparing first WC of Babar by the peaks of others.

Anyways I didnt compare him with anyone, even said in another past he has to improve and prove a lot in tests to be anywhere near the stature of Miandad.

However, I still maintain my stance that his performance in this WC cant be said ordinary. I am not saying it was exceptional but it was pretty good in my opinion. Though this is just my opinion and we can agree to disagree here.

Our legends have shocking world cup records bar Saeed and Javed.
Absolutely awful.
Misbha done well tho

He had a very good World Cup but should have shown more resolve against West Indies, India and Australia - three matches that cost us a place in the semi-final. Even one significant innings in either of these three matches and we would have been in the semi-finals.
Yeah disappointed even though he got really good starts against Ind and Aus.

What happened to Anwar? 72 str? 40 avg?

He played a significant part in the campaign and Pakistan played the Final.

If you were too young to watch that ask some opposition fans how they felt about Anwar on the crease and compare it with Babur.

It is not always adviced to linger around selective stats to prove a point.

Broke my heart when he missed out on a hundred. He is special player and mustn’t be burdened with captaincy.

Its is even bigger joke to be playing under nonperformer and having to obey what they say.best players are supposed to lead for the best results

Everyone in team respects the leader that performs and doesnt hesitated when captain asks for something out of ordinary but if its the otherway around it gets tricky

You referred to stats and I highlighted them.

I watched Anwar bat and I feel a lot more confident when Babar is on the crease.

I'd throw that last line back at you.

The point was not of confidence but Impact, I felt more impact when Anwar was batting, and if you have seen Anwar bat, then you know what I am talking about.

This. Those are the 3 standout innings where he showed a little mental weakness. WI was a debacle, and India he got out to a good ball but his technique was a little lazy and maybe made that delivery look more of a peach than it actually was.

Australia was the innings I believe he could step up into the clear elite conversation. While he can be considered top 5 in rankings or overall, chasing 300 flat was possible on that track -- and he was looking good but seemingly threw his wicket away at the boundary. The art of chase is necessary, and it is a limitation in this team that needs to be broken.

All that being said, he always looks in form and I think this tournament has thought him how important his stay at the crease is for this team and how much better he can be outside of averages and stats. He can become a winner, and if we win more with him averaging 40 -- I'll take that any day over him maintaining a 50avg on a middle of the pack squad.
