MashaAllah, I don’t remember the last time we were blessed to have 3 batsmen who are as gifted as these 3 in the same side. Reminds me of the time when we could be proud of our middle order with Inzimam, Yousuf and Younis Khan. Although Harris and Abid are yet to achieve anywhere near the accolades of those three, the thread specifically outlines the high quality of their technique and ease against pace bowling. Something Pakistani batsmen in general have not been so good against.

Really hope these 3 can help together and build a brand that is worth watching for Pakistan cricket’s sake. So happy to see that the elite quality of batsman can still emerge from Pakistan. Abid Ali is a beautiful, beautiful player.

Abid should have started long ago. He was brilliant in the 2009-10 domestic season. Should have been a regular since 09/10. But the selectors continuously ignored him.

True, dont remember any other Pakistani batsman than Abid Ali in last few years who can be compared to Babar Azam and Haris Sohail in terms of playing a knock with such solid conventional stroke play with decent strike rotation.

Though he will need to do it consistently for atleast an year or two in different conditions.

Said this before the World Cup and I will say it again... and Ali should’ve started in the World Cup. It’s a travesty that Imam was our starting opener when he can’t bat at a modern strike rate!

We all know why imam was picked ahead of abid, purely based on surname. Not ability.

add in ifthikar ahmed as well. Best middle order in odi. period. pakistan is going to be an excellent team for the next WC. They can win it. bowling is my concern though.

Naseem Shah, Shaheen, Hasnain all promosing. As for spinners zafar gohar looks promising. Will need to find a new spinner besides him though, or hope shdab can go back to domestics and improve form.

husnain and naseem still unproven though. Agree about SSA. serious world class talent.

The Australia series can't come fast enough. Our fans need bringing down to earth for the 10 millionth time since PP was created.

You can bet your house on it that these 3 will do well in Australia as well. They are very good players of Pace bowling.

To just put bit more light on Naseem Shah, he is the most highly rated pacer by the coaches in national academy and U19 setup since Amir. Obviously no one can predict the future but he is a real prospect.

Abid Ali should open instead of Azhar in Aus, he can actually play the short ball.

Pakistan can be a world class team with the talent we have, but we are always cursed with horrible selectors. I don’t know why everyone criticises Iftikhar, he deserves a chance and he has delivered on both occasions with bat and bowl. Let’s see if he can perform against better teams.

How easily Fakhar gets forgotten...

It's early days so I'm not buying Abid Ali stock just yet. His domestic track record is okay but nothing exceptional. 39.81 AVG and 81.65 SR in 100 List A games, so lets maybe temper our expectations a bit.

Looks decent though. Certainly good vs pace but looks weak against spin and doesn't seem to have much ability to play aerial shots.

Lol @ this thread. Babar is the only batsman who can be considered quality. Haris has showed promise but needs to show consistency in all conditions against top sides.
2 absolute dead games on a flat surfa e against an absolute C grade team and we reckon we have quality. Lol

Abid Ali is amazing to watch, such a good timer of the ball with a good shot range. He needs to be given a long chance. A batting lineup of Abid, Imam/Fakhar, Babar, Haris and Rizwan will be hard to beat.

Abid Ali has to prove himself furthermore. Can't call him quality right now.

I love it how Abid Ali become quality with 71 included a drop catch and horrible dismissal where he failed to read the wrong one against B grade Srilanka attack.

Only Lakmal is missing from their regular ODI bowlers.

Some guys will not see a genuine, hq batsman because I feel Pakistani batsmen from 2009 onwards have made them accustomed to mediocrity.

Abid as a technician is in the same bracket as Harris and Babar. I actually have no fear in arguing that Asad Shafiq and Hafeez could have also been in this bracket (in nets they probably are) but the guys didn’t have the mental strength to dominate like Babar and Harris have done so far.

It is upto Abid now to either go in the right direction and utilise the gift of quality batsmanship like Babar and Harris, or go down the path of inconsistency the way Shafiq and Hafeez did.

And which batsmen have not plundered the full strength srilanka attack recently? Abid Ali must score runs against high quality attacks. He batted too slowly against 2nd grade Australia bowling attack and lost us the match when we needed to chase only 260. High Quality Batsmen would win us that game if scored a 100.

Just pointing out that it's not their secondary bowling attack.

Abid batted at a SR of 94 against Australia. That was above what was required. Doesn't make sense to blame him for that loss.

Agreed, but it's still a sad situation. We will never be a Top team until nepotism leaves our cricket system. Much easier said than done though!
