Is he the one who will rescue cricket in Pakistan?
the way he is improving match by match i reckon he will go above and beyond the call of duty. An atg contender was an alien territory for us , pak fans, but not anymore.

He's done well but all of his hundreds were soft ones. Let's wait before calling him an ATG.

He is doing a fine job. He will break every batting record of Pakistan.

I know it sounds ridiculous but as a teenager, he was destined for even greater things. I have no doubt he has another gear or two in terms of developing his batting.

The ATG status is subjective. Some consider players like Miandad, ABD, Dravid, etc. as ATG, but many do not. But one thing those players have in common is that they are their country's greats and they have accumilated vast amount of runs with many match winning performances. When discussing ATG players, the mentioned players can be considered as ATG contenders.

Compared to the mentioned players and other greats of the game, Babar has a lot to achieved before he can be considered as an ATG contender. So far, the signs suggest that there is a good chance that he will go on to achieve success that will put him in that ATG conversation.

Talent wise, Babar is not in the league of the likes of Inzi, Yousef or Saeed Anwar. He is a very talented guy that seems to be have a desire and a motivation that very few, if any of our post 2005 cricketers have had. History shows that if he gets 20 hundreds then he would have done really well, I hope he goes onto to score at least 25.

He can't do it alone.

He needs good people and world-class players around him.

He was not promised. Mickey made this possible by changing the culture of this rotten team. Just listen to Babar talk in interviews on how he operates daily. It's all professional.

It is Pakistani culture to give the mentor all the credit. Mickey is getting all the plaudits for Babar just like Imran gets all the credit for Wasim, Waqar, Inzamam and Saeed.

Guidance always helps but you cannot polish a ****. Mickey helped Babar but he has been destined for big things since he was 13 years old. With or without Mickey, he would have been the best Pakistani batsman of his generation.

The likes of Sarfraz, Fakhar, Shadab, Faheem, Hasan, Amir, Yasir etc. all declined/stagnated under the so-called brilliant coaching of Mickey.

Mickey will keep harping about Babar because ultimately his development and the fluke Champions Trophy were the only noteworthy outcomes of his tenure.

The T20 streak and ranking were complete nonsense and the Test team turned into a joke.

Two words: "Current Form".

"I am always thinking of each match as my last match, if I do well then I will play the next one. I keep trying to improve more and more. That helps you to learn how to build innings, how to win matches, convert 50s into 100s etc. Often, I look at my previous innings and look at the negative points, why did I play a certain shot or why is my footwork that way so I try to fix any shortcomings"

This from Babar today, says it all.

Thank Allah first, and then thank Mickey.
Mentors and coaches can be a great thing if you have the right work ethic.
Mickey backed this guy more than any person ever would have done. Just read the Babar thread from September 18 that has been bumped today and a heck of a lot of PP was saying he was a burden on the loi team LOL and only becuase of Mickey did he not get dropped from test team.
I think 90 per cent of PP wanted him out of the test team when he was AVG 27 but Mickey stuck with him.
Most Pak fans and even the pumdits want you out if you have 3 low scores in a row in a format ( See haris Sohail 2019 )

Mickey and Babar got on like a house on and shame that could not continue

This mentality and hardwork is not often seen in our players.

Pakistan have truly found a gem.

while mickey deserves some credit but mostly it is babar's sheer determination and hunger that sets him apart from other pak players.

I agree with you to a certain extent. so let me rephrase it, he can be an ATG contender if he keeps his priorities straight.

sir can you please elaborate your answer? no one else is going to bat for him so i don't see the connection here.

Obviously Pakistan cannot depend on Babar alone. No point putting pressure on him and then for others to lose wickets around him is what is meant above.

fair enogh. but that is exactly my point, it is this situation that can make him an atg contender. similar to what happened with sachin in 90s.

NZ in the World Cup was soft?

Besides if you lose the match it doesn’t mean it’s a soft hundred.

It has little to do with Mickey.

Babar has been driven from the start.

If it wasn’t about your own ambition, and Mickey was a miracle worker then guys like Fakhar wouldn’t have just disappeared and Akmal and Shehzad May have had a career rebirth

No can succeed without drive but you still need guidance. Pakistan does not have that structure in place.

Fakhar improved a ton under Mickey, he's currently averaging 46 at 95 in ODIs whereas he would've disappeared in 10 games if it were anyone else. Fakhar also reached the national team at a later stage with an unorthodox technique that is hard to tinker with. The coaching staff made the most out of him.

Akmal is a dimwit and is not driven. Shehzad does not have talent. He's what you call a bowling machine product. He can time certain shots that he's practiced repeatedly in the nets but outside of that he's limited as they come with more attitude than his game.

Babar was not a complete product when he debuted. Neither did he know how to analyze his game. He was taught these things and was given opportunity to learn through mistakes. I've already said this but Azhar, Asad and even Haris had their best stretch of cricket under Mickey.

Azhar and Asad had their best stretch pre Mickey and the first six months of Mickey. Surely you can’t attribute those scores in the first six months all to Mickey.

let me reiterate, Babar is the best thing that's ever happened to Pak cricket. He has that sense of calmness that was alien to us. He is humble and never settles for mediocrity. Our fans, media, and ex-cricketers must appreciate and back him.
But, by the looks of it, some of our fans and ex-cricketers always try to undermine him one way or the other.

He might be Pakistan’s Azohar Ahai, and his reveal is way more impactful than John Snow could ever imagine in the tv series. Lol.

exactly. I had stopped watching Pak cricket during the misbah era, now I don't miss a single match only because of this guy and I know many other people who only watch Pak cricket because of him.
