Babar Azam vs Haris Sohail in ODIs

On the basis of what i have seen. Name one batsman that you have watched play who is better than him against swing and seam.

KL Rahul has the best technique in international cricket so obviously he is better against swing, spin, seam etc. than Haris Sohail.

Sorry but i dont think he is better than Haris in this aspect. However, i do believe KL Rahul is the most naturally talented young batsman in Asia at the moment.

Babar at 3 and Haris at 4 is the last hope for Pakistani fans.

Although this post is two and a half years old but it is a pertinent post at present.

Babar needs to bat at 3 and Haris at 4 irrespective of the pitch/weather conditions against South Africa. Haris was needlessly benched after Windies game where he got a peach from Russel. That delivery could have got any top batsmen out.

Even a guy with experience of watching Cricket for more than 5 years (if he is not Malik cult follower) knows that Haris is far far superior batsman than Malik ever was against decent pace bowling outfits.

Babar and Haris are at their best when they play positive, attacking cricket and not when they play negative cricket and are in survival mode.

Few Suggestions for both :

1. Need to catch highlights aswell as scorecard of Pakistan vs India 1st Odi 2004. India posted 349-7 and Pakistan in response made 344-8. I would put the blame of that 5 runs loss on Shoaib Malik and Rana Naveed ul Hassan who failed to finish the match and wasted great efforts of Inzamam, Yousuf and Younis who all played at a SR of 100 or 100 plus despite their career strike rates being hardly 75 in those times.

2. Inzamam, Yousuf and Younis played percentage cricket. No slogging or howicks. They respected good balls, punished bad balls and rotatated the strike well with least dot balls accumulation.

3. Babar & Haris when you are chasing 330 odd than even if your Career strike rates are 80, 85 you need to strike above 100 if you score in excess of 25 runs your SR should be above 100. Look at Steve Smith, Joe Root and Williamson. Look at there overall Strike Rates and than look at their 100 plus strike rates when they are chasing 300 plus. Remember Asif Ali is a hit or miss batsman and you don’t have Moin, Waseem, Mehmood and Razzaq batting at 6,7,8,9 so you have a fight from top with Strike rates in excess of 100.

4. Which inspiring innings of themselves do Babar and Haris need to watch to motivate themselves and be in right frame of mind as to what they need to do ? I have a suggestion.

A. Babar Azam’s 83(77) vs New Zealand on 31-01-2016

B. Haris Sohail’s 60(59) vs New Zealand on 11-11-2018

Mickey, Grant, Mansoor & Sarfraz should sit with Babar and Haris and tell them that in remaining 4 matches you both would bat at 3 and 4 for Pakistan. Be assured about your position in playing eleven and give it your best shot. Especially give confidence to Haris who has always been in and out of the team needlessly even when fit.

Best wishes and prayers for only dynamic batsmen of Pakistan team with shots all around the wicket against pace and spin.

Micky and Sarfraz destroyed Haris’s career for the sake of Hafeez and Malik. He is a proper batsman unlike these rahlu kattas

If you are talking about injury record, in last 2.5 years, he has missed only one tour so it pure ** that his fitness is the reason.

Haris is very much capable of hitting sixes( see his 2nd hundred) and his last T20 international match.

Good to see you back posting on cricket. I agree i don't know why we keep selecting shameless Malik over him, which players would you get rid off after the world cup?

JazaakAllah. So kind of you.

Surely Hafeez & Malik need to retire or they should not be picked for any format post World Cup.

I have my eyes on Shadab Khan aswell. If he fails to bowl match winning spells in remaining matches especially against BD & NZ than he needs to be sent back to domestics for sometime. Needs to learn to bowl at inviting slow speeds, loop/flight and turn his leggies appreciably.

Hasan Ali needs a break aswell.

Wahab should stay if he performs well in remaining matches. I expect him to bounce back he is a fighter. If he doesn’t than he needs to retire from Odis surely.

Fakhar, Imam & Sarfraz will be under the microscope aswell and so too Asif Ali. They need in perform in atleast 1 or 2 remaining matches otherwise they will be dropped despite irrespective of their overall numbers.

Guys like Ahmed Shehzad, Khushdil Shah, Haris Rauf, Zafar Gohar, Amaad Butt, Umar Khan and Saud Shakeel will be strong contenders for Pakistan team after Worldcup.

Though Shan Masood did not have a good start to Odi Career but his last Odi innings was 50(54) vs Australia so he will be in contention once again and he deserves it on merit.

Agree with your assessment. I would like to add Imad in there too. Agree with the names you have mentioned other then shehzad, he's had enough chances. I hope we invest in Said Badar, he's the type of guy we need in the middle order can play both spin and fast bowling well, i know he doesn't have the performances to back it up yet. Plus need to get rid of Sarfraz, invest in rohail nazir, Umair massod has regressed a lot.

Surely Saud needs to be selected now. I don't mind kushdil shah, he deserves it, but i don't think he's international class. I hope he proves me wrong though.

Haris needs to bat at 4 with Babar, watching them bat together reminds me of Inzi-Moyo partnerships.
Now only if we could get rid of Hafeez and replace him with Saud Shakeel at 5 and get Sarfraz to open in Imams place.

Can’t believe Pak actually left out Harris , single biggest reason why they may get knocked out

Batted nicely together. This needs to be number 3 and 4 next game.
Why does nobody have the balls to tell hafeez to bat 6.

Haris looked as if he would be the guy who would rescue the sinking ship of the Pakistan team.

Alas, he went off radar due to the injury.

Thank ALLAAH, Babar has looked good, albeit a small sample size.

Both didn't play together.

Haris is back at the NCA, training hard for his comeback.

At best, he would be back for the tour of WI, or CT'17.

So insha ALLAAH we would see both of them at 3 and 4 in the CT.

One is LHB who bowls a bit of SLA
other is RHB who bowls a bit of OB.

Both are technically good, if not sound

Let's see who leads the team, BABAR or HARIS(IF he stays the same post injury)

We should have seen them batting at 3 and 4 at ct17 but pathetic seniors have taken his place

Imam Ul Haq
Sharjeel Khan
Babar Azam
Haris Sohail
Mohammad Rizwan
Umar Akmal
Aamir Yamin
Shadab Khan
Umer Khan
Haris Rauf
Mohammad Amir

It is quite evident Haris has worked hard on his game and is a much more dynamic player with a wider range of shots compared to 4 years ago. He is adapting to modern ODI cricket.

He has also worked on his fitness, he was comfortably running quick singles and doubles against SA, something which was not part of his game before.

If 4-5 years of his career had not been wasted by seniors and he had not been plagued with knee injuries, he would have been Pakistan's best batsman at the moment. He is an excellent timer of the ball and is a better power hitting than Babar, which is one of the reasons Babar has not been able to push on and convert in this tournament.

In the next 4 years, these 2 will be Pakistan's best partnership in ODI and test cricket, and maybe even T20Is if Haris can produce more innings like the one against SA.
