Should have pressed the pedal earlier and gone for a win. This was more of a consolation 100 for a line up satisfied with a respectable loss.

That said, Babbar is a fine talent and should do well with time.

Harsh to say Pakistan didn't want to win. The only difference between the sides today was Starc. Every other bowler took a phainta and I daresay Pakistan would have chased it down if Starc wasn't in the XI.

His 90 was the best innings by a Pak ODI player for sometime, probably since Abdul Razzaq's carnage vs south africa ( which i think is the best by a pakistani ever).

He came in at 3 for 77, promoted when needed selfishly by the management like when we were down 3-3 in the same series and he was promoted because they knew he'd save us and he did get a hundred then as well. But they won't promote him permanently. I hope he does it himself.

Nobody is thinking about dropping him when they criticize his batting as per what the target demands. He does have some shades of selfishness in him but definitely not at extreme level as Ahmed Shehzad showed. To be honest most Pak players (seniors and juniors) are selfish; its the job of captain and coach to keep them in check.

He is not able to bat at the death and is locked in at 5.

All this talk about "acceleration," the best in the world would struggle to accelerate against this attack let alone a 22 year old just starting his career chasing 370. Three 6'5 bowlers hitting the top of the splice every damn ball and a quality ODI spinner in Zampa. How do you accelerate when they're giving nothing away? Incredibly difficult to play risk-free cricket.

Babar knew he had to bat long and partner Sharjeel for as long as possible for Pakistan to have chance. Our middle order is non-existent with Malik and Hafeez, and we're carrying a passenger in Azhar so all the burden was on Babar and Sharjeel. It's not easy to accelerate in such a fragile lineup. He doesn't have the luxury of reliable ODI players like other teams. People need to use common sense.

either will do for me . one thing i do know he will employ the sweep which is vital to manouevere the field in the middle overs. in this series we have got stuck against zampa and had to rely on the high risk big shot.
we have nobody playing sweep behind square so it was too easy for zampa to put deep midwicket, deep cover , long on and long off back.
safaraz is key in this regard. even malik can only play the release if the spinner isnt bowling flat.
if umar gets fit i would put him at 4 though.

These seniors are good for pretty 30s and 40s when there is no pressure. All other times they go missing like mental midgets.

I would rather lose with a fresh young team with prospects to grow then watch Hafeez and Malik get to 34 then throw it away every time. What a pathetic generation of cricketers we made.

I think Pakistan should get rid of malik,hafeez, azhar,rizwan from odi team.U akmal also if you believe you have better batsman than him to open along with sharjeel. If not try him as a last ditch effort at opening.
