It was a good game. Lived up to the Ashes hype.

I think England had enough runs on the board but Head simply took the game away.

Don’t watch even for 10 mins lmao

Aussie head brutalised England hahah

Head is better than all Indian batsmen barring pant
And better than all English players

If his record improves overseas I am going to put him as a legit true ATg level player. Up there with the best

Head is better than Pant. :inti

Pant's purple patch seems to be over.

A test match finished within 2 days. What a shame! Like I said in the other thread, bring back the ‘00s please.

Yes.

It is because batters had better batting techniques in the 1990's and 2000's.

Most of modern day batters are hacks. They try to slog their way out of trouble.

There is nothing wrong with being a hack in T20 but it is unsustainable in Test. You need proper techniques in Test.

2 day test....hmmmm

If I was Aus, i would not go all gung-ho over this win....

I'd still back Ben Stokes to go absolute electric crazy in one test and bend the course of this match to his will - winning it for Eng!

He got a fiver in the first innings, watch out - maybe his batting is going to explode now....

I was surprised Starc was selected as the Man of the Match. It should've been Head because it was more challenging for the batters. :inti

Pant is the daddy of Bazball, even if the English are too proud to admit it. Sehwag inspired Warner. Head has taken Warner's game to the next level.
Many have done it before. England is the one who advertised it every series. Even during this series Vaughan kept saying :This is what they do to other teams" like they are some kind of invincibel force

Boss boss hi houta hai. I am sure England was looking at Aussies being 100 all out in 2nd innings to win the match easily…

The term 'entertain' is being casually used from players to coach to ex players/commentators to defend the stupidity of English batsmen.

Dont know why they're shy to use the term embarrassment.

Brainless Batting And Bowling: England Great Tears Into Ben Stokes-Led Side After Huge Loss

England lost the first Ashes Test in Perth inside two days despite having a 40-run first-innings lead. However, an attacking century from Travis Head in the chase completed a humiliating defeat for England to begin the 2025-26 Ashes campaign.

Former England batter Geoffrey Boycott has called Ben Stokes' side brainless for their approach that saw them not even bat out 35 overs in either innings.

"I cannot take this stupid England team seriously anymore," Boycott wrote in his column on The Telegraph.

"Before this series started Ben Stokes told the world that any ex-player who criticised them or had a different opinion were "has-beens" because Test cricket had changed and the past was irrelevant. Well, from this has been the message is simple: when you keep throwing away Test matches by doing the same stupid things, it is impossible to take you seriously. They never learn, because they never listen to anyone outside their own bubble, because they truly believe their own publicity," he penned.

"It is simple. Brainless batting and bowling lost England the match. A 40-run lead on a fast bouncy low scoring pitch was huge and with Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope together at one stage England were in charge at effectively 100 for one. But as exciting as this England team can be, they are always only a blink of an eye away from self destruction.

"Bazball, bad judgment, overconfidence, whatever the reason, it makes winning matches difficult. Against top teams like India and Australia, it is a huge factor in losing," he added.

Head, who was promoted to open the innings, smashed an unbeaten 123 off just 83 deliveries, while Marnus Labuschagne chipped in with a half-century as well as Australia chased down 205 with minimum fuss.

As a result, Australia have a 1-0 lead in the five-match series and England will look to draw level in the second game, a day-night Test, in Brisbane, starting December 4.

Vaughan worried about 'damage' of England's mental scars

The former England captain did not mince words when reviewing his old side's capitulation on the second day of the Ashes against Australia, questioning whether the result will have a lasting impact.

Michael Vaughan reckons England's embarrassing capitulation in Perth is going to "damage them", stating a team can't be competitive without brains.

England lost the opening Ashes battle by eight wickets on the back of two calamitous batting collapses and Travis Head striking the equal sixth-fastest century in Test cricket.

The tourists lost 5-12 late in the first innings to be bowled out for 172 on day one.

They regained the advantage after skittling Australia for 132 early on day two, and England were on track for a big lead after cruising to 1-65 in their second innings.

But a collapse of 5-23 brought about their undoing, with their Bazball approach backfiring as Australia roared back into the contest.

Australia's victory target of 205 was a walk in the park courtesy of Head, who reached his century in just 69 balls and finished with 123 off 83 balls.

It means England will head to Brisbane with their tail between their legs, and former captain Vaughan is worried about the mental scars they will carry.

"This is going to hurt England, it's going to damage them I think," Vaughan told Kayo.

"Ben Stokes won't really understand what's happened.

"We're talking four-and-a-half hours of cricket where his team have gone from not a dominant position, but you're in control of a game.

"They had the chance (on Saturday to bury Australia) and they lost 5-12 down the back end of the innings.

"They have the tools to be really competitive, but you can't be competitive without brains.

"You can't just play one way, which is what they've done, and they've come unstuck (on Saturday) and they came unstuck (on Friday)."

Stokes defended his team's aggressive approach, believing it proved to be the best way to handle the tricky conditions.

"The guys who had success out on the middle were the ones who were brave enough to take the bowlers on and get them off their length," Stokes said.

"Watching our guys bowl in that first innings, it just looked impossible in particular for Marnus (Labuschagne) and Steve (Smith) to be able to score when we were able to run up and smash away at that length.

"Anyone who tried to stay around there and tried to occupy the crease with a lot of time didn't seem to have too much success."

Stokes has told his team to embrace the pain of the two-day defeat.

But he doesn't want them to hold on to the disappointment for long, saying they can't afford to carry baggage into the second Test in Brisbane, which begins on December 4.

Former England paceman Stuart Broad was blown away by the tourists' two-day implosion.

"I'm still drastically searching for positives from an English point of view," he told the Seven Network.

"I've been wondering for months how they will get the fast bowlers through five Tests.

"If they're going to be this quick, they've got a chance. Bowling seven, eight overs an innings – I think they can do that for a few weeks."
