Wicket looks pretty flat, I think Eng can draw this if they bat carefully
really? Even yesterday Steven Smith was beaten on bounce and balls nipped back for Inglish. Unless Australia bowls absolute garbage like England did, they should get through pretty comfortably, especially when the lights come on.

I think its doable, Starc looks a little exhausted, he has been single handedly carrying the bowling for the 2 matches so far.

Pope and Crawley gone to Neser - caught and bowled
Wonder how much longer Pope will be persisted with. Top order batting in this era is hard but averaging 35 after 60+ Tests, which includes some absolute roads at home and in Pakistan, seems very upgradable.

There are some young County batters knocking on the door like James Rew.

Played for the Lions and struggled against Australia A.

Don't think county numbers predict international success. Standards are too low.

Bethell might still be the better pick.

Marnus is a far superior batsman to anyone in county and even he has struggled at #3

Damage done in the 1st inns with some silly dismissals, wayward bowling and dropped catches.

Pakistanis know too well from our tours how Australia ruthlessly punish opposition mistakes.

Jamie Smith's horror Test continues. Another batting failure to go with his poor keeping, and a really bad review to boot.

Australia may not need to bat again.

6 wkts down. If they now get Stokes, thats the Ashes done surely!.
But if there ever was a scenario for him to get going, its now...the portents, the background, the match / series situation....will we see some superman stokes magic ?

Starc has been nothing short of a class act 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 taking 18 wickets already at an avg of 13 with still 4 wickets left to take in the 2nd inns.

He has shown he's not just about speed but has also taken on the role of a mentor for the others around him.

The result is a foregone conclusion.

Australia’s last 4 just made too many runs.

The only interest remaining in this game is whether England can avoid an innings defeat or not..

England lost the plot when they didn't declared after fall of 9th wickets on day 1.

That was perfect time to takes 3/4 wickets under the lights with new pink ball.

That could have set the tone insted they continue to Play.

In day night test, night session is most important for bowling side's .

:kp

If India's catching was better, Gill's relative inexperience in captaincy especially first test - we could have a better result in our favour than 2-2 in England 2025

It was the best chance for Eng due to absence of main bowlers and yet score is likely to be 0-2 against them after 2 tests.

Before the series, I expected a 5-0 or 4-0 Aussie win. It is heading toward that way.

Truth is England currently do not have a team to win in Australia.

You can't win with Bazball in Australia. You need to play traditionally and you need to be genuinely good. :inti

Bazball is just a band-aid.

England 334 & 134 for 6 (Crawley 44, Neser 2-27, Boland 2-33, Starc 2-48) trail Australia 511 (Starc 77, Weatherald 72, Labuschagne 65, Carse 4-152) by 43 runs.

Mitchell Starc extended his extraordinary Ashes 2025–26 campaign, first grinding down a fatigued England attack in sweltering Brisbane conditions and then removing Joe Root under the lights, leaving Australia poised for a dominant second Test win by stumps on day three. England’s bid to reclaim the Ashes already looks bleak just five days into the series, with Ben Stokes surviving a difficult late spell but the visitors ending a draining day in deep trouble.

After toiling for more than half a day in the heat, England lost six wickets in the final session as Boland and Neser made the pink ball talk, vindicating Neser’s selection over Lyon. Starc was the standout yet again, top-scoring with a gritty 77 off 141 balls to help Australia secure a commanding 177-run lead before returning, fatigued but relentless, to dismantle England’s top order. Crawley and Duckett briefly offered resistance with a 45-run start, but wickets tumbled rapidly once Boland struck, Pope fell cheaply again, and Root departed on review after chopping down on a full Starc delivery.

Australia’s batting effort was marked by six fifty-plus stands and five individual half-centuries, with every batter reaching double figures despite no centuries being scored. Their controlled aggression produced a brisk run rate of 4.34, in stark contrast to England’s inconsistent bowling, highlighted by Carse’s four wickets but expensive 152 runs. Starc’s composed strokeplay, especially against Carse’s ineffective short-ball spells, set the tone for an innings that stretched deep into the afternoon before England finally wrapped it up.

England’s hopes of a comeback were dashed repeatedly—first by Starc and Boland’s dogged ninth-wicket stand and later by Australia’s ruthless new-ball burst. Stokes pushed himself through long spells, visibly frustrated with lapses in the field, but the damage had long been done. Even when Jacks finally broke through with spin, the momentum firmly remained with Australia as an early finish on day four now appears inevitable.

Ben Stokes debuted in the 2013-2014 Ashes. England got whitewashed 0-5 back then.

It is quite possible Stokes may experience it for the 2nd time.

Aussies are looking good for a 5-0 victory here.

Australia really is one of a kind team in this sport, this is a flat track and they have just bullied England into submission.

Not many teams will be 130-odd for 6 on this wicket, but England are just so scarred that you can’t help but feel sorry for them and admire Australia’s attitude in the field.

Pink ball tests require a lot of brain. Things like how long you should keep opponents on the field, how you tailor your innings so that you get to bowl at the best time. All said and done longer you keep the opponent on the field is always better. Australia is doing it.

You have world no.1 ranked batsman. no.2 ranked batsman i your line up. Australia no.1 and o.2 test match bowelr out with injury. ANd mistakenly they left out their best spinner in the country. ONe of the best spinner in the world. Here we are. England is getting outplayed with second string bowling. Cricket is a team game. If you play as a team you can challenge any team even a team with top 2 batsmen in the world.

Bazball only works on flat pitches against undiscipllined teams Australia is to professional and discipline and plays hard game England have good players their approach is questionable now and then they will come off but most of the times against good teams they will fail.

Apart from batting, bowling, catching and tactics, England is doing quite well.

England failed to apply scoreboard pressure and instead crumbled under it. It seems more of an psychological issue with them. Another Ashes going down the drain for them

I think Mitch Starc just woke up one day not too long ago, and decided he was going to destroy England and help Australia retain the Ashes. And we are seeing that manifest in real time.
He took the analysis of Aussies being weak without Cummins and Hazelwood very personally.

Starc would have struggled against technically strong guys let us say Alistair cook kind of players. The whole England batting line up is full of batsmen with holes in technique. Especially Starc's natural length is something that should be handled by temperamentally and technically stronger players. But this England unit is known for driving on the up repeatedly. A cardinal sin in Australian conditions because of extra bounce. Also there is no concept of leaving the ball for these guys.

Another thing is England should have played Josh tongue. It was criminal to leave him out. He is different from other bowlers. There was sameness with guys like Atkinson, Stokes, Carse all hitting the deck hard.

Starc averaged 23 with the ball in the 2017/18 Ashes when Cook was still playing . And this version of Starc is a much better bowler.

He wouldn't have struggled against Cook

Cook was mostly done by then, I remember he couldn’t score anything except in the last match that was played on a drop in pitch where he got a double ton.

A session without rubbish bazball and England have done pretty good Job. :kp
Bazball coming next session as Stokes will smash one standing on one leg with one hand pointed towards gully and the bat face toward mid wicket.

2016 Capetown
2019 Headingley
2023 Headingley
2025 Gabba

True - and it’s good he’s come out fired up, but he needs to do it when the game is live.

His intensity in the first innings here and second innings at Perth was a disgrace. He should be dropped for that.
Unlikely to drop him. They've put their eggs in one basket here.

He's pumped up.

You are right though it's far too late! The series is gone we needed this earlier.

Smith flipping rattled him too with that comment - you bowl fast when there is nothing on the line. Then tonks him for 6!
