[PICTURE] Cameron Bancroft admits tampering ball [Update Post #90] [VIDEO #185]

Tv cameras showed Bancroft rubbing the ball with palm of his hands before returning something from that hand to his pocket. There was clearly a small yellow object which he used to rub the ball.

Typical Aussies. I wonder if the line was crossed this time around.

Honest views from Graeme Smith and Shane Warne on Super Sport coverage - 'Bancroft Tampering Incident' :warne

Looks like Aussies have drawn the line at belt level - below the belt, everything is acceptable.

Looked like sandpaper to me. In this age of multiple camera angles, how do they expect to get away with these? Also explains how the ball suddenly started reversing in first innings leading to a SA collapse

[PICTURE] Umpires query Cameron Bancroft over mystery pocket object

AUSTRALIAN opener Cameron Bancroft found himself at the centre of controversy on day three at Cape Town, with onfield umpires inquiring what he had in his pocket.
Bancroft was shown rubbing his hands over the ball shortly before tea Saturday before putting them in his pockets.

Shortly after umpires Nigel Llong and Richard Illingworth met mid-pitch. As this was happening Bancroft appeared to take a yellow object out of his pocket and slide it into his pants.

When questioned by the umpires, Bancroft pulled out the cover of his sunglasses.

Why these umpires not fining Aussies 5 runs? That's racism, you know.

Apparently Lehmann spotted that on TV and immediately conveyed it to substitute Handsomb who then ran on to field to communicate to Bancroft in the middle of overs that he was caught on camera, after which he tried to put that object inside his trousers.
:))) This is big

Got caught... Poor newbie Bancroft was thrown under the bus.

Like Shane Warne said in Tea Break, has to get to the bottom of the process of this incident. Who instructed Bancroft to do such a silly thing, is it Smith or Lehman or Both :ashwin

Pretty clear and as always warrants a suspension.

Why would anyone carry the cover of their sunglasses in their pockets whilst playing?

As I've always maintained here for a long time every team in club cricket onwards has a specialist ball tamperer. Bancroft is clearly not any good at it to get caught so blatantly.

Should have made Khawaja do it given the way he is batting.

Freaking hypocrite cheats

Disgusting behaviour finally brought to light.

Bunch of high and mighty bogans that accuses everyone else and say themselves play the game in the most fair way lol...

Hope Smith or whoever is responsible for this cheating debacle is banned ASAP

So Bancroft is the guy who "takes care" of the ball? This is serious. Might even get fined 5% of his match fee.

Should take a leaf out of faf du pleiss book and just use their zippers

.

Whats that supposed to mean?

Steve smith and Bencroft they both should be banned for multiple times because as a captain how can u let this happen. Need a serious example set here. Same with rabada he should have been banned for 2 games as he deserves it. Overturning the decision was a joke, no wonder cricket is soft.

Loool that's classic! :D Everything is seen on camera these days, it literally zooms into the players they should know haha.

umpires didn't catch it as he hid it in his underpants and showed them a handkerchief

Understood. But, they must have seen something on ball and smelled foul play, otherwise Bancroft won't have been called. A pair of professional umpire should have figured out something from the ball. For a reference, Aussie umpire, Mr. Darrell Hair fined PAK 5 runs, on the state of the ball - he didn't catch any PAK fielders doing anything on the ball with "elements outside game"; in fact, bowlers didn't use their spikes either.

Looks bad this.

This series has been awful for the reputation of cricket.

I suppose now ball tampering is also included in the line. Is there anything the Aussies do not within the imaginary line?

Maybe Bancroft can use the he got hacked in his nap argument where a teammate pranked him by slipping the sand paper in his pockets

Agreed. Bancroft has to serve his suspension.

I think he is being made a scapegoat. Quite clearly being the junior most member of the team, he got the duty of taking care of the ball. As you rightly pointed out, it should have been Khwaja though considering his poor run with the bat.

So its clear that its a team strategy and not a single person's idea. In that case, shouldn't the team be penalized? E.g. 5 runs be added to SA's total.

If proven then will the entire team get a ban?
Surely everyone is involved in this? You can’t just ban the player caught doing..

in terms of entertainment
and for those who says test cricket is dead has been proved wrong we wont see any player or team going to such an extent to win any t20 or odi match.
but a test win means alot to a team theres lot more in line (not the aussie line)
but you got my point.
will be interesting to see test championship involving big teams.

Suspension is fine.

Incident has opened can of worms, if proven.. how long this practice is followed in AUS team? Does AUS wins under Smith-Lehman with reverse swing from pacer should be questioned and verified again ? Integrity of age old team like AUS is on the line? etc ...

:)) The SA commies acting holier than though.

Guys, your captain is Faf with his infamous zip and mints :shhh

Legit reverse is very difficult to attain and nearly everybody that gets it has done something with the ball. I have seen PK, Ind, England, SA and Aus do it over the years. This is blatant and he, the captain and the coach should be banned.

Don't care about what happens to Bancroft, it's Lehmann that needs to be punished. Players especially younger ones don't just decide to try a hand at ball tampering and once the images went on big screen a message arrived to dispose off the thing doesn't look like a coincidence to me.

its extremely stupid how bowling no balls gets you put in jail while ball tampering which gives you a massive advantage and chucking get you scott free.

No way am I condoning bowling no balls and match fixing but saying here that tampering should be severely scrutinized, not given a few match suspensions, while whoever is caught chucking should be banned for bowling for a period of time and permanently banned from bowling if caught chucking again.

Whats Bancroft hiding in his underwear?

DZDgl5lWAAEPctk.jpg

lol that explains how they got the ball to reverse so early in the first game.

Cheats.

Meh he will get away with it.

He may get a slap on the hand and a warning. I genuinely don't expect a ban

Zipper du plessis got away with it against us for a similar incident so yeh he will be okay

Don't think it's holier than thou more remember how you lot were behaving when faf did this moment for them.

So cheating to gain an unfair advantage attempting to win a game is same as throwing a match to get money.

yes it is.

when you cheat to gain an unfair advantage YOUR team has the upper hand. this is UNFAIR.

when you throw the match or bowl a no ball the latter which BARELY has a consequence on the match, the OTHER team has the upper hand, this is UNFAIR

When things cannot be fair in sports then it is not right.

And as I have mentioned since the Wellington Test two years ago - in which Mitchell Marsh suddenly became Waqar Younis - Australia currently “work the ball” more than anyone else.

Mind you, a year ago I uploaded a picture of Umesh Yadav sporting a comically long fingernail during a Test match.

It should be Steve Smith who gets the ban. Punish the organ grinder, not his monkey.

I would say any captain found to have a player use a foreign object on the ball gets a Life Ban.

Then it would stop.

Let ICC investigate it before unleashing mob-justice upon the newbie

Video evidence is pretty damning. Investigation won't change the fact he rubbed something on the ball and then tried to get rid of it once umpires found out about it, if that doesn't scream guilty nothing ever will.

:)) Michael Vaughan trolling on twitter.

The English and Indian press are going to have a field day.

Why do Aus have to resort to this when they have 3 of the best pacers in the world to go along with a classy offspinner?

Heck, even India were able to get 2 SA wickets with a much inferior attack.

Does smith have faith in his bowlers abilities to get 20 Aus wickets?

If khawaja did it his Pakistani roots woudlve been the blame. 😂😂

I first thought was it may be sandpaper, but then the structure of the object is tough and looks more plastic. Either way this should be a suspension.
