As expected

The former members of the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) Management Committee, Shakil Sheikh and Gul Zada, have decided to challenge the new PCB Governing Board and the upcoming election for the PCB Chairman in court, with the initial hearing for both cases scheduled to take place on Monday at the Lahore High Court.

The election for the PCB Chairman is supposed to take place on Tuesday, June 27, at the PCB headquarters in Lahore. However, the legal challenges brought forth by Shakil Sheikh and Gul Zada could potentially disrupt the election process and delay the appointment of a new chairman.

It seems that Zaka Ashraf (potential Chairman) may face several obstacles which could create complications and uncertainty surrounding the appointment.

Welcome to the world of politics.

What is the legal loophole they found, whats the case about?

If Sethi resigned and the Patron has the option of submitting two names for the BOG membership, there is nothing that Shakil Sheikh can do.

The BOG is made up of 4 departments and 4 regions. Peshawar (Gul Zada) and Islamabad (Shakil Sheikh) dont have seat in the BOG. Larkana, DMG, Bahawalpur and Hyderabad hold the 4 BOG region seats, thus indicating after Mustafa Ramdey and Zaka Ashraf are added in the BOG seats, the election will be held and most likely if Zaka Ashraf stands in the election with no contestant he will win by default.

Shakil maybe wanted someone else to stand against Zaka and than get the others to vote for the guy standing against Zaka.

Anyways, good to know SNGPL is part of the BOG. Misbah has had a 20+ year career with SNGPL and is still currently employed with them. I dont know if the SNGPL BOG seat is given to a cricketer and only given to someone from the Corporate side, but if its given to a cricketer, this could mean Misbah in future can become a BOG member aswell through election and not by the PM's nominee.

However, If SNGPL gives this position to someone from the corporates side, than I believe Misbah should or probably have a job in the corporate sector of SNGPL so that in future they could field him as a BOG candidate in the PCB BOG structure.

Regardless of the legitimacy of the claim it's absolutely reprehensible that Pakistan cricket continues to stoop this low.

We're watching a bunch of power hungry old men open prioritise their own selfish desires over the health of the nation. Ramiz should be respected for leaving this horror show with some dignity in tact.

Thank God we have a stable team in place. The role of Babar and Rizwan as leaders has never been more important. As loved and respected cricketers they are the glue that hold Pakistan cricket together. They are rightly keeping out of this mess.

I could only imagine the carnage if we had the Akmal's, Amir or Shoaib Malik in any kind of senior role within the team at the moment.

Rameez should be respected :)) for what?

Not one of them is doodh ka dhula. Everyone including Wasim Khan is guilty because they all became chairmsn and ceo through these same acts.

not one of them made the effort to change the constitution that did not allow the patron to bring anyone in.

If Zaka makes it to chairman then PCB will become corrupt again. PPP need to be kept well away from cricket.

There is going to be more action off the field than on the field in the coming weeks and months in Pakistan cricket :)

The signs are not good and it's going to get ugly.

Perfect excuse for Babar’s poor captaincy I suspect

These are people with a proven track record of such actions - so nothing new, in fact would have been a surprise if they had gone out without fuss.

Let's see how it goes today and tomorrow, whether the courts step in.

The process to elect the new Pakistan Cricket Board chairman might be delayed with two members of the former management committee approaching the Lahore High Court. The Lahore High Court will on Monday head two petitions filed by former PCB management committee members Shakil Sheikh and Gul Zada against the election process to bring in Zaka Ashraf as the chairman and the legality of the Board of Governors which will elect the new chief. The petitioners have requested the honourable judge to stay the elections of the chairman and suspend the BOG until it gives a verdict on their petitions.

“It is a tricky situation because the election commissioner and acting Chairman of the board has set June 27 as the date for holding election for new Chairman after the changes made to the Board of Governors,” one source in the board said.

Ironically, when Ashraf had become PCB chairman way back in 2012, he had faced similar legal challenges from his predecessor, Najam Sethi, and was even ordered to vacate his position once by the Supreme Court.

The PCB patron-in-chief, who happens to be the country's Prime Minister, nominates two candidates to the BOG and one of them is elected as chairman.

This time after incumbent Sethi had withdrawn from the election race, the premier nominated Zaka Ashraf and Mustafa Ramday as his candidates on the PCB's BOG.

The uncertainty in Pakistan cricket comes at a time when the ICC and BCCI are set to announce the schedule for the ODI World Cup on Tuesday.

“It will be a bad situation for Pakistan cricket if the Lahore High Court issues any stay order on the petitions today. Because at a time when the PCB is faced with many challenges from the ICC and BCCI, it is important to have a proper elected chairman,” a senior official of the board said.

Zaka Ashraf had eventually conceded the PCB Chairman to Sethi in 2014 and Sethi went on to enjoy the PCB for the next 4 years. He should now do the same thing and concede for Zaka Ashraf in 2023 and not create any obstacles for him.

You can put a suit on a guy but you cannot take his basic khaslat out.

Can someone explain why they’re so keen on delaying the election? Zaka Ashraf will be the next Chairman, how is delaying it going to prevent him?

Feel sorry for the PCB now.

This is their media release:

Following the interim order of the Honourable High Court of Balochistan, Quetta, Tuesday afternoon’s election of the PCB Chairman has been postponed.

Think they want to spring a surprise by electing Ramday (the other Patron nominee)

So the PCB is going to be run by the temporary Chairman i.e. the Election Commissioner? We have many important issues coming up i.e. The WC Itenary, the Pak tour to Sri Lanka, Asia Cup, PSL issues. The PCB is run in a very clownish, unprofessional manner, i am surprised the ICC hasn't stepped in to protest against this blatant political interference.

Sooner or later the ICC will step in and ban Pakistan cricket due to political interference in the running of the game.

In fact I'm surprised it's not already happened.

Good luck getting that big payday during the World Cup without Pakistan

ICC can do that. Pakistan isnt India that ICC wont survive without Pakistan. Pakistan has its importance just coz India plays against it in ICC tournaments. So, its just one game...ICC with the help of BCCI can definitely go on without missing that big payday.

SL cricket is literally controlled by sport ministry. ICC won't do anything.

Getting ugly now....

The federal government of Pakistan has taken a significant step by sending a letter to the Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) to request an audit of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The purpose of this audit is to scrutinize the financial activities and expenditures during the tenure of the former PCB Chairman, Najam Sethi.

The letter highlights the necessity of conducting a comprehensive examination of the expenses incurred by the PCB under Sethi's leadership. The government authorities have stressed the importance of conducting this audit promptly, covering the period from December 22, 2022, to June 20, 2023.

In addition to the audit of Sethi's tenure, the federal government has also urged the AGP to conduct an audit of the eighth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). This decision follows complaints received by the government regarding alleged unnecessary expenditures by the PCB Management Committee.

The Lahore High Court on Tuesday stayed the election of the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board after suspending the notification of the Board of Governors.

The court issued notices to the federal government, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) election commissioner, and others.

In the petition of one Malik Zulifqar, it was contended that Chief Election Commissioner Shahzad Farooq Rana had made several changes to the list of the BoGs, which was finalised by the interim management committee on June 20. It said that the act of the chief election commissioner was illegal.

The petition implored the court for a stay order in this regard, which was granted by the court. It is pertinent to mention that a day before, the Balochistan High Court had stopped the election of the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman pending further orders.
