Bangladesh kickstarts its 2024 T20 World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka in Dallas, Texas on Saturday. Sri Lanka suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of South Africa in its first match and will be looking to bounce back against its rival.

Good start by Sri Lanka, this match will surely offer something by the end of the match like time out or mankad type things lol
 
BD is traditionally weak against leg spin. I think Afridi created that fear long back in them lol They have not recovered still.
 
There were few hiccups early on but I think Bangladesh is going to win this game in the end. just 30 more needed now.

Bangladesh is in deep deep trouble. Lost 4 quick wickets and they still need 11 off 14 with 2 wickets in hand now.
Mahmuddullah is the key here. He has to stay out there now.

Nuwan has changed the game with his 4 wickets till now.
 
As I said, Mahmudullah is the key. Beautiful shot for 6 off the very first ball and almost sealed the game for his team.
 
Hard-fought victory for Bangladesh.It could have been a disaster if Mahmudullah was not there.

BD will lost against NED. How do you almost lose a game from 98% win chance? Probably the most painful BD game I have ever watched. What is wrong with these guys?
 
Credit to Hridoy. A very uncharacterestic BD innings. 3 sixes in a row. This is why you should always be ahead of rate. Funny things happen when you try to finish at the end. Those 3 sixes eventually helped them out.
 
Bowling masterclass helps Bangladesh edge past Sri Lanka

Bangladesh is on the board in Group D, as the bowling unit puts on a quality display against Sri Lanka in Dallas.

Bangladesh is on the board in the ICC Men's T20I World Cup, holding their nerve to edge out Sri Lanka in Dallas.

They made tough work of it, chasing down a target of 125, arriving at the finish line with six balls to spare and two wickets in hand.

A career-best haul from young spinner Rishad Hossain, who picked up the Player of the Match award, helped Bangladesh restrict Sri Lanka to 124/9.

Rishad collected figures of 3/22 and fast bowler Taskin Ahmed (2/25) chipped in with a pair of wickets as Bangladesh did well to keep their Asian rivals in check.

Pathum Nissanka (47) provided Sri Lanka with a decent start, but a disciplined bowling performance from Bangladesh ensured there were wickets at regular intervals and the score did not get out of hand.

Rishad, in particular, was impressive for Bangladesh, with the right-armer picking up the key wickets of Charith Asalanka (19) and Wanindu Hasaranga (0) in consecutive deliveries to help change the momentum for his side.

Angelo Mathews (16) threatened to hit out late, but Bangladesh will be happy to have restricted the island nation to a below-par score.

The run chase began in dramatic fashion, losing two wickets in as many overs. Bangladesh suddenly had a fight on its hands when falling to 28/3 in the sixth over.

Towhid Hridoy (40 off 20) and Litton Das (36 off 38) went about doing the heavy lifting, compiling a 63-run stand for the fourth wicket, before Sri Lanka started arresting back momentum.

Nuwan Thushara, 4/18 off four overs, made sure it would spiral into a nail-biter. Spectators held their collective breath with two overs to go – Bangladesh still needed 11 runs for the win and only two wickets up their sleeve.

But when a full toss was dispatched for six to the leg side, off the middle of Mahmudullah’s bat, Bangladesh fans were breathing a fraction easier.

Mahmudullah’s 16 off 13 balls, along with Tanzim Hasan Sakib’s presence (1* off 4), made sure Bangladesh held on for the nation’s first win at the event – claiming a two-wicket victory.

Sri Lanka’s stranded at the bottom of Group D, having now lost both encounters. They’ll have a chance to correct course on June 11 against Nepal.

Hridoy played a good innings but his one shot nearly cost Bangladesh the match. He can be a top batter but needs to fix his mindset.

More importantly Bangladesh needs to be done with Shakib. He has been a cancer in the team for a long time but it was overlooked because of his individual performances but now even those are gone. This team can’t grow with him and his terrible flippant attitude.

Mahmudullah again showed that he is Mr. Dependable. Hopefully the team can give him a good sendoff.
 
Sri Lanka's team manager Mahinda Halangodesaid in the post-match press conference:

“The conditions and I think the pitches were actually totally different from what I meant. When you are saying the conditions, yes, we came early. We were in North Carolina and in a place called Morrisville. But unfortunately, we couldn't practice actually the entire period because it rained.”

“And the wickets there actually were not up to standard. And we found it a bit difficult. I won't say that this defeat is because of that, but definitely, when you look at the wickets in the US, I think you can see that there are low scores. So, the batsmen definitely have to adapt to the conditions and actually get a decent total so that the bowlers can hold and try to win the game.”

“We actually tried to do it, but unfortunately all those grounds were not available. We did contact the US Cricket Association and they are the ones who helped us to find a place in North Carolina because all the other places were fully booked, and unfortunately, we were trying to play a series with the US team."

"Unfortunately, Bangladesh had already had an opportunity to play against them. Because of that, we had to go to North Carolina.”
