Wow simply wow.
Bro I'm not saying it is right or wrong. I'm trying to understand why such incidents are not reported as terrorist attacks. It's not my view

Wow simply wow.
By not calling it a terrorist attack does it reduce fear in the local populace? Because it's scary when you call one of your own a terrorist, when it is a Muslim attacker they call them a terrorist because they are still viewed as supposed "outsiders'. I'm just trying to understand the thinking.
Will do.
He had been posting about the attack on twitter for days. Showing his gear and guns (one of them isn't even legal in NZ).
Posted on 4 Chan before he left..
Yes, but I've heard of similar things being reported and trajedy being avoided. And that went under the radar?
Also I don't think people follow 4 Chan religiously
Because then they'd have to dispense with the notion that only Muslims are terrorists and when waging war on terror, they wouldn't be only bombing Muslims. It's a very convenient way to be selectively bigoted.
The terrorist uploaded a manifesto to social media which confirmed it. the media is still not calling it that AFTER reporting they were white supremacists and targeted muslims at two mosques.
So further push the ignorant idea of Muslims are evil? The truth is there are evil people out there irrespective of their race or religion.Yes that could be one of the reasons. But I also thinks it helps in downplaying fear, because when one of your own is a terrorist how do you cure that problem? If it's a Muslim they can say let's ban immigration from these countries and such incidents will reduce, but when it's one of your own then what do you do?

But he was an immigrant...from Australia.
Mayor of Christchurch is calling it a terrorist attack according to some people on twitter.
I think they were home made and the gun the terrorist losed isn't legal (AR15).Where did they get the guns & IED's from ?

Most likely..looks like AR's ... smuggled ?
No group ordered the attack, he did it himself.
That's what he said.Upto 5 people are arrested

Not confirmed yet but I think this is what NZ reporters were referring to.
That makes sense, they've basically been alluding to it being a terrorist attack with the terms and things they've said.I contacted the journalist of one of the biggest papers here in Norway and asked him why this was not termed as a terrorist attack.
He replied that he personally thinks it is a terrorist attack but they can’t use this term before the authorities use this term and they need to know what the attacker wanted to achieve. Aman
I found this on twitter, the news channels here said/showed similar quotes.Aman WHAT is the source for this pic?
You cannot add stuff like this without a source.
Heart goes with the sufferers and NZ people.Aman you can feel how horrfic last 20 years were for us here in Pak.PM briefing soon.
Ardern may declare it an act of terror/terrorist attack here.
I feel for Space Cat, his city has gone through so much. This is the last thing it needed after the earthquakes.Heart goes with the sufferers and NZ people.Aman you can feel how horrfic last 20 years were for us here in Pak.
Are you serious? How can anyone continue as normal after such an incident? If the reports of 100s killed and video is true, bangla players are extremely lucky no one got injured. They will have ptsd perhaps for life

And since the perpetrator was Aussie, include Australia in the ban as well.
Pray tell why is Pakistan only unique when these incidents can happen in any country.

What are, as per your country's law, the punishment the perpetrators are facing?
If the worst he is going to receive if lifetime prison where he is fed with good food and decent bed
Bangladeshi team's press conference was delayed by 10 minutes due to which they reached the mosque 10 minutes late. This saved them. Had this not been the case, it would have been catastrophic.

hmmm, not really
depends from country to country.
Like for me this news isn't that shocking as I have seen such things happen on a daily basis in Pakistan.
Like when the APS attack took place, we just quietly went to school/collage/uni the next day, becasue we are used to it. Hence you cant bash some people here if they say why the tour stopped.
Yes, for some this attack was very surprising.
It already is catastrophic
I just want to take a second to commend the compassion of the posters on this forum. Its really heartening to me after i have spent the past few hours trying to contact muslim members of my cricket club to see if they are ok. Its dreadful and i cant begin to imagine what the families of the victims are experiencing.
Unfortunately i made the mistake of browsing the cricinfo facebook page where commenters scarely made mention of the 49 victims and instead resort to bashing my country or to push their agendas which is just sad.
NZ is a small peaceful nation we have only had 1 terrorist attack in our entire history prior to this so we are just not prepared for something of this magnitude. The police here dont even carry fire arms in public. I guess we were naive to think it wouldnt happen here but i guess now in this modern world we can never be truely safe from evil. Thankfully the Bangladesh team are safe and i hope this never happens here again on any scale.
Kia Kaha,
Love over evil,
Space Cat
I cant imagine he would get any less than life without parole but our justice system has never actually sentenced somebody that strongly before. There is a murderer awaiting sentencing currently who could be the first in history to receive that sentence.
Its far too soft.
Exceptionally soft and this won't deter people from taking up the path again. The guy will enjoy a comfortable life.
If I were a kiwi I would be ashamed of this guy was just going to get a mere life sentence and live in comfort of a prison.
When Bangladesh had terrorist problems in 2016. Government was quick to get rid of all kinds of terrorism. There were drives all of a sudden here and there and guess how many terror activity related deaths occurred ever since ? 0
Hence Bangladesh is toured by foreign countries and big players play in BPL.
One thing government did was they did arrested everyone related to any form of terror activity. I am sure they were questioned and eventually killed off. You can't have mercy for murderers. There is a quote in Lord of the Rings "show them no mercy for you shall receive none"

We shall see what happens as nothing like this has ever occured in NZ. I can assure you at the very least NZ prisons would not be a comfortable place for somebody with his views. I hope he is thrown in with the worst of them and left there.
The law of the land dictates that. We are no one to question it.
Thank god for that.According to some if the Bangladesh team bus had arrived five minutes earlier to the mosque they would have been in the middle of fire , they are really lucky to escape this. The press conference delayed them it seems
Shocking , the team will be brought back home soon
Casualty number is 49 now
Hope everyone is okay. This reminds me of the incident that happened to SL team and because of that Pak is still struggling because no team wants to visit. I hope after seeing this international teams become more considerate and understand these things can happen anywhere.

The world treats Pakistan differently for odd reasons even if we are prepared to provide proper security. Now it has happened in NZ the boards will be tested for their level of hypocrisy.
Very sad news and really feel for the families involved. Horrible such barbaric attacks!
Why are people struggling to understand the very distinct difference? The Bangladeshi players were not specifically targeted unlike the Sri Lankan attack that was DIRECTLY carried out against the Sri Lankan players. The Bangladeshi players simply happened to be in close proximity to the mosque.
In 2002, there was a bomb blast in Karachi right next to the hotel where the New Zealand team was residing. Did it stop other countries from sending their teams to Pakistan? No it didn't. So why should teams stop touring New Zealand now?
They're targeting muslims.
