Bangladesh hangs another Islamist leader for crimes against humanity during 1971 war

While these hangings and punishments are Bangladeshs right as they deem fit regardless of the human rights violation.

However the broader point is that many of the charges brought forward are clearly somewhere between exaggeration and fiction.

All third party independent analysis of this tragedy have put the death count and the rape count several degrees lower than the numbers propagated by the Bangladeahi sources and that is a historical fact

The death toll is still estimated in 100s of thousands by most independent experts.

The estimates range from 200k,300k to 3million. I believe the probable number is somewhere in between.

Ofcourse Pakistan Army should be ashamed at any number because even tens of thousand is a lot but it lessens the seriousness of discussion when people bring up the 3-5 million figure and in fact weakens the case.

Also the same people refuse to acknowledge or debate the role of Mukti Bahini who attacked and killed many pro Pakistani Bengalis and Biharis.

Well it was civil war and since the Army was state organisation and carried out a state sponsored genocide and started it all and had far more killings they are held responsible. Now the bihari muslims were urdu speakers and they with these militia of Razakars supported the Pak Army in carrying out killings and retaliation happened, not justifying the retaliation but it was retaliation.

Lets be honest Mujib won the election fair and square and he was put in jail.Followed by a genocide what would you think the other party do?

It's also a slap on the face of all the innocents killed by the terrorist Mukhti Bahani and Indian army

Why would they be considered as terrorists, huh ? Pakistan army was the perpetrators, not the mukti bahni. Did it have any existence before 25th March 1971?

It was formed when Pakistan army started operation searchlight in order to kill the Bengali nationalists, students and religious minorities. Do u even know the reason behind that operation?

Pak govt miserabley failed to win the election against mujib and thought they would regain the power by killing innocent Bengalis.

And majority of the pro Pakistanis whom u r calling innocents weren't even humans let alone innocents and one of them have recently been hanged for his heinous crimes in 71 war. They were worse than monsters.

Kangaroo courts means kangaroo justice.

Even more dispicable is the Indians defending these farce trials here.

Let me make it clear I have no problem whatsoever dealing with any war criminals but if people don't think this is all a charade setup by Hasina and her cronies for poltical purposes then they have no clue. And just to reiterate I know this happens in Pakistan and India but I will call a spade a spade wherever it happens.

And why are some bringing Kashmir into the mix ? Ridiculous but no suprise some will go to any lengths to muddy the waters and use any means to defend their arguments.

War criminal got hanged. He was behind killing of 100s if not 1000s.Delayed justice doesnt mean Hasina is hanging innocent people.

Most international agencies which cared to comment have called the trial a farce though.

Lahore/IBNS: During the recent T20 match between the home side and Bangladesh in Lahore city, several students and Jamaat-e-Islami loyalists in Pakistan displayed a placard in the gallery showing pictures of executed Bangladeshi Islamist leader Motiur Rahman.

This move is seen as a gesture of solidarity shown by a section of Pakistanis towards Bangladeshi JeI, sources said.

The match was played in Gaddafi Stadium on Jan 25.

Nizami was hanged by the Bangladesh government in 2016 for crimes during the war of independence from Pakistan in 1971.

The Islamist leader, who drew sympathy from JeI loyalists in Pakistan, was convicted of genocide, rape and torture.

Nizami had led Bangladesh's largest Islamist party which is known as Jamaat-e-Islami.

Nizami was the fifth and highest-ranked opposition leader to be executed since December 2013 for war crimes, reported BBC.

The series was significant as Bangladesh visited and played a series in Pakistan after a long time. Apart from T20 series, Bangladesh is also playing Test and ODI series during their visit. The Test series will form part of the inaugural 2019–21 ICC World Test Championship.

No international cricket team was visiting Pakistan to play cricket for years since the terror attack took place in 2009 when terrorists had targeted the Sri Lankan team bus.

The incident marked the beginning of Pakistan’s international cricket drought.

However, teams like Sri Lanka and now Bangladesh played Test matches in Pakistan to mark a new beginning in the cricket scenario of the country.

I am not a fan of political banners during cricket. Cricket should be free from politics.

Having said that, Hasina and her party needs to stop milking 1971 and focus on other important things. It is time to move on. Most Bangladeshis have moved on.

Most Bangladeshi I meet are quite chill with me even knowing that I am Pakistani so from Bangladeshi expats I think the wounds from the war have kinda healed over the years on both sides cause for many years I had no idea that we had a temaltious relationship with Bangladesh almost to the point where people (not adults more like teens) wouldn't even know about Bangladesh except for it's cricket team so I think when both the sides have moved on why hang people
Also I think knowing the history of the era is also important so people don't get fooled Awami party was almost like the anti-establishment party of it's era with considerable support from Sindhi,Pashtun,Buloch and Bengali leftist nationalists so it wasn't a Bengali nationalists party only it was one of the few national party's of Pak along with jamat-e-islami which was the total opposite and wanted to enforce sharia and could care less about the struggles of different ethnic people so in this scenerio ideologically JI were polar opposite of AL and when AL won the election they didn't like and when part of AL wanted seperate "secular" nation with a red (socialist vibes) circle in it's flag JI would have never tolerated and they did everything in thier power to stop Bangladesh from coming into existence as anyone with thier ideology would have done so I personally don't see this as treason because AL exist to this day in Pak you don't see thier hangings on treason cases and Bacha Khan staunchest Congress and Indian unionist supporter and he said the famous words "You have thrown us to the wolves" when he learned about partition, even though he was under house arrest and stuff but he was never actually tried for treason so imo supporters shouldn't be held responsible for taking sides during the war and it should not be considered treason
