It's amazing that when aamir or asif used to take 3 wickets..at times even 2, they looked so impressive.
Yet Irfan doesn't.
In this game, for instance, Yasir impressed far more than anyone.
Quality vs Quantity any day!

Looks to me Pakistan are taking this game seriously and BD batsman just practising and still finding out who to play where. I've been saying this all time that Rahim who is the most technically correct batsman is a waste at 6. Nevertheless, Pakistan should still chase this.
 
Irfan gets 5 wkts and help limit the score from 270 to 246 but still not good enough for many.
Not sure why people expect him to to carry the bowling by himself? He is the best bowler in the team and that is it. We need 2-3 other bowlers to help out as well. Leaking run is a worry. Let's see how Pak bat. If they make the runs in 40 overs then it was phatta wkt.

God forbid if that happens.
He failed in 2 games already, let him flunk again so we could get rid of him.

Or else if he score here, he will stick with the team for continuous failures in the entire WC.

What's afridi doing there for a decade, then?
Sure, Irfan is still new. Afridi must take the reponsiblity and advise himself rather than others every second or so.

He is only useful with the new ball, and if he cannot take wickets against Bangladesh up front, it doesn't portray a good picture.

He won't get cheap wickets at the death against good batting units because he's a poor death bowler.

Tbf, he didn't open the bowling. I believe he came in much later.
 
246 is very much gettable. I really want our batting to chase it down without any wickets collapse

I think they did not plan for him to bowl the 10 overs but after Sohail got injured they got Irfan to bowl. Not sure who opened could be Irfan as the cricinfo was all messed up.

5-52 in 9.5 overs is not a bad performance from Irfan. He gave away 2 runs in the last over and took 3 wickets. I really don't know why he's being criticized so much here.

2 of the them being tail-enders and he got the first wicket in the very beginning.
That explains that fact that he can't be trusted to bowl in the middle overs at all.
 
So what? If he hadn't been able to clean up the tail and they managed to score a few more runs, you all would still be after him. His job isn't just to get the top order batsmen out. Someone has to clean up the tail as well.
 
Irfan picks up 5-40,also bowling at the death with the old ball. Fantastic work, showing some "pak fans" what he is capable of.

Going by the replacements made so far, I wouldn't be surprised.

Though I hope Sohail is fine, these injuries are really hurting us now.

The most important is the middle order. That builds up the score. Tail is just a formality where bowlers slog and there is a high risk.

But apparently he wasn't even bowling in the middle overs when BD was rebuilding the total? According to people here he opened the bowling and then came towards the end of the innings. And, if that is indeed the case then he did a very decent job.

Pakistan for sure. And India has the same feeling for Pakistan and vice versa.
It's a vicious cycle, really.
Bangladesh succumbs to Pak and India does the same to pakistan.

Agreed. People tend to overlook that bowlers are meant to work in pairs. If the team is getting good runs at the other end, there is less need to take risks v irfan. So teams will look to see him off. Then we will get mamoos on here saying he is not that good. Nobody wants to judge holistically the events and how they all relate. All of the recent great Australia teams, the fielding played a great role in tying teams down and keeping people on strike. This also helps the bowler in his work.

We don't have the resources for pairs that could do such damage.
Giving 3 runs per over for 10 overs without a wicket is better than 5-52 when everyone else is also getting smashed around the park.
We have always relied on choking rather than wait for the last 10 overs to pick up wickets.

Sarfraz is gonna pay a short tribute to Moin and then back to the dressing room.
he is Moin's favorite..I doubt he gets dropped.
