#BanIPL Trends On Twitter After India Surrenders To New Zealand In The ICC T20 World Cup 2021

India's elimination was confirmed after New Zealand hit the winning runs against Afghanistan on Sunday at Sheikh Zayed Stadium Abu Dhabi. In wake of the elimination, former cricketer Madan Lal highlighted "several reasons" for the poor show by the Indian Cricket Team. He stated the first obvious thing for players was to prioritise World Cup over the Indian Premier League.

The former India all-rounder said the players looked fatigued due to too much cricket in recent months. "They came directly to the World Cup after playing in the IPL. Before that, they were in England (for the Test series). Now that is the problem… they could have opted out of the league (IPL). They should have taken some rest before the World Cup. I guess players need to decide what is more important for them, playing in major tournaments like World Cup or the IPL? It's not just any series, it's the World Cup," he told IANS.

"Also, we all know how different this (T20) format is. Too much action involved here. Look at the way fresh Pakistan is doing, England is playing,"

The cricketer also mentioned the confusion over Hardik Pandya's fitness as one of the reasons behind the team's below-par run. "Was he fit or unfit? Will he bowl or not? Such confusions were disturbing."

Madan also felt the change in the top batting order was a wrong move in their game against New Zealand.

"Whosoever has taken it (the decision), it was wrong. Rohit Sharma has been consistently performing well in the opening. How can you remove him from that position? Then Virat Kohli's spot (No. 3) was also changed. Bringing Shardul Thakur in place of Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the right decision though," he said.

Upon being asked if the Indian team would undergo any changes in the near future, Madan Lal proposed bringing in some young blood. He added there are no favorites in this format.

"Two or three good overs (batting-wise or bowling-wise) can change the outcome. We must bring some new guys into the team and nurture them," said Madan.

New Delhi (AFP) – Indian legend Kapil Dev accused the country's cricket players of prioritising the cash-rich Indian Premier League over national duty, after the pre-tournament favourites were dumped out of the T20 World Cup.

"When the players prefer to play IPL over playing for the country, what can we say? I believe that every player should feel proud playing for their country," Dev, who led India to a World Cup victory in 1983, told ABP News.

"I believe that your national team should come first and after that franchise or any other team."

India on Sunday crashed out of the Twenty20 World Cup after New Zealand beat Afghanistan to book the second semi-final berth from Group 2.

Virat Kohli's side, who went into the tournament as one of the favourites, thrashed Afghanistan and Scotland but it was too late after losing heavily to arch rival Pakistan and to New Zealand.

In the build-up, Indian regrouped just two days after the Indian Premier League ended on October 15 in Dubai, adding to the time that the players spent in draining Covid-19 bubble conditions.

"I am not saying don’t play cricket there (for franchises) but it is now BCCI’s responsibility to plan their cricket (schedule) better for the future," the 62-year-old Dev said of the Indian cricket board.

"What we can learn from this defeat is to not repeat the mistakes that have been made. This is the biggest lesson."

The Times of India daily said that preparations for the next T20 World Cup, in Australia next year, should begin immediately.

That includes infusing "fresh blood" into the side, such as partnering likely new T20 captain Rohit Sharma with Ruturaj Gaikwad at the top of the batting order and giving chances to Suryakumar Yadav, Harshal Patel and Deepak Chahar, the newspaper said.

The Hindustan Times reported that after their exit was sealed on Sunday, India called off a training session ahead of the final match against Namibia on Monday "as players brooded what might have been".

"India's inability to hold their weight in knockout rounds of ICC events has been sticking out like a sore thumb. This time they have also missed the bus to reach the last four," the newspaper said, bemoaning that India "failed to adapt and tweak their tactics according to the conditions".

It won’t change anything

Everyone will forget by the next IPL auction and Mamoon will be back telling us how IPL is bigger and better than international cricket

IPL will make india like wahab said the England of the football world. Best league in the world but England has not won a World Cup since 66. And England players World Cup after World Cup start believing their own hype. Yet English fans go back to saying premier league is king and World Cup is just a gimmick . Rest of the world disagrees

I dont really like IPL , but banning it is not the solution.
Though length of IPL should be reduced.
2 months of t20s is too much overdose.
Interference of IPL in scheduling international cricket is definately a worrying sign..
