When it comes to speaking of relations between Pakistan and India, the Kal Ho Naa Ho singer has a different stance. He called out Indian media for sensationalising the tense situation. “I would never talk in favour of a war. I request you (the media) to not make a mountain out of a molehill for your ratings… This is very stupid of Indians. We act childish.”

Now, during his appearance on India TV’s show Vande Mataram, Nigam shared his opinion regarding the banning of local artists within India. “By banning Pakistani artists we feel a sense of security that ‘oh, now Atif Aslam will not come work with us, we’re happy’. This is wrongly guided patriotism. Why did you call them in the first place? Now you’re asking them to leave? Why are we changing our decisions like kids?”

He continued, “Why belittle the nation over these petty issues? We, on a whole, need to mature a great deal.” The Main Agar Kahoon crooner went on to speak about the fact that it’s the film industry’s decision whether they are to cease any cultural exchange with Pakistan.

Nigam then urged people to not to vote on the grounds of caste and religion. “Why don’t we vote on the basis of the politicians’ performance? We should talk about bringing harmony in the country, instead of drawing lines on the basis of caste, creed and religion. We need to condemn our mentality to divide the communities and make them fight against each other.”

He concluded the interview with the request that people behave more responsibly on social media.

Personally, I'm not bothered by Pakistani artists being banned from working in India. However, art should transcend politics and exchange of culture should be above personal vendettas of politicians.

It is good to see Sonu Nigam, one of my favourite singers to have FINALLY stepped up to the podium in advocacy of peace and love.

On a sidenote, many may not agree, but I did not entirely disagree with what Nigam had to say about the Azaan a couple of years ago. The call to prayer is beautiful however, it may indeed disturb people of other faiths and living in 2019, Muslims should be allowed to progress and adopt the alarm clock as a means to wake up for prayer.

Only those arts which promote good thoughts, moral values and love for the country should be allowed. Artists who use art as a form of protest against oppression or nationalism should not have any place in the society.

Moody is either running out of budget or some of them are not cheap enough.

No India should keep our artists banned. I want the likes of Atif Aslam to become patriots loving their county like mad! Only way to do that is by continuing with the ban.

India’s Court has rejected the plea pertaining to banning Pakistani artists in the country and requested to prevent the concerned from issuing them visas.

A petition filed by Faaiz Anwar Qureshi—a self-proclaimed cine worker and artist, stated that the presence of Pakistani artists in India during the World Cup could diminish job opportunities for Indian artists.

The petitioner specifically demanded the Bombay High Court to stop Pakistani musicians, singers, lyricists, and technicians enter India who were being called by Indian citizens and companies.

The division bench comprising Justices Sunil Shukre and Firdosh Pooniwalla categorically rejected the plea.

The court stated that such a move would be a backward step in fostering cultural harmony and unity, both within India and across its border with Pakistan.

“One must understand that in order to be a patriot, one need not be inimical to those from abroad especially, from the neighbouring country,” the court said.
