PSL International Media Rights Sold - Another Record Shattered

Pakistan Super League (PSL) today announced the successful sale of its International Media Rights for the upcoming season, marking another significant milestone in the league’s continued global expansion.

The one-year agreement for Global Media Rights for HBL PSL 11, minus India Region, will be awarded to Walee Technologies who was the highest successful bidder who exceeded the PCB’s reserve price.

On a comparable, equivalent basis for the same regions, this represents a 149% increase in value compared to the previous cycle, highlighting the growing brand value and reach of HBL PSL worldwide. This substantial uplift underscores the league’s rising stature as one of the world’s leading T20 tournaments.

PSL CEO, Mr. Salman Naseer, said:

“We are extremely pleased with the outcome of the International Media Rights sale, which has delivered a remarkable 149% increase over the last cycle for the same regions. This growth is a strong validation of the HBL PSL brand, its competitive quality, and its increasing appeal to cricket fans around the world.

“The HBL PSL continues to attract strong global interest, and this agreement reinforces our confidence in the league’s long-term commercial trajectory and its ability to deliver value across diverse international markets.

“We are grateful to Walee Technologies for stepping up the ante in the New Era and breaking past records. The continued rise in international media rights value also reflects the collective efforts of all stakeholders, including franchises, players, and partners, who have played a vital role in positioning the HBL PSL as a globally recognized cricketing property.”

Walee Technologies CEO, Muhammad Ahsan Tahir, said:

"This is a victory for every Pakistani who believes in 'Made in Pakistan' technology," said Ahsan Tahir, CEO of Walee Technologies. "This is just the start of our HBL PSL journey. We have a lot of plans and we'd like everyone to eagerly await everything Walee is about to do.”

Since its inception in 2016, the HBL PSL has consistently demonstrated sustained commercial growth across media rights, sponsorships, and digital platforms, further cementing its status as Pakistan’s biggest sporting brand and a prominent fixture in the global T20 ecosystem.

The PCB and HBL PSL management remain committed to enhancing the international broadcast product and expanding the league’s reach, ensuring that fans worldwide continue to engage with the HBL PSL at an unprecedented scale.

Why does the PCB only announce relative numbers and never actual PKR or USD numbers for these deals?

Doesn't the Pakistani public deserve transparency?

You can find the numbers from Google and calculate by yourself. :inti

Do you not know basic math? :inti

Why do you think ?
Well it's either mismanagement or corruption. Or maybe two for the price of one.

My guess is backroom deals to keep the price low and profit from them. I can't believe PSL and Pakistan cricket deals are that poorly priced. The money is leaking out of the system somewhere to go into someone's pocket.

PCB as usual releasing information and talking in percentage without quoting an exact picture.

Even in the murky world of sports governance where bodies like IOA and FIFA have been proved rotten and corrupt, the PCB stands out.

The last published financials on the website are for 2022-23. No concrete numbers since then except vague press releases.

Of course its corruption, all the stake holders will be negotiating their cut; by stake holders I mean the military and the corrupt politicians

I don't think it's either mismanagement or corruption

I think they are worried that the rights are significantly lower than IPL rights so they look bad.

Or the percentage increase is only in rupees terms and that opens up questions on why the Rupee is weak.

So a quick percentage with no underlying figures is there way of delivering the news.

Normal people: PSL media rights sold at a new record price. Very nice. All the best.

Sanghis: Where's the Dollar figure? Where's the Euro figure? Where's the rupee figure?

Sanghis always have to make things complicated. :inti
It's quite important in this case bro from a Pakistani pov never mind what the Indians may think of it.

We need to be able to challenge public bodies and can only do so with the right information Infront of us.

Probably a fair assessment.

But not revealing the baseline number does a disservice to Pakistani fans. And opens the door for corruption and mismanagement, with less accountability

Maybe. It's tough to believe these deals worth so little though.

This discussion feels a little deja vu to me. The PCB hasn't officially released the numbers but from various articles on the interwebz, the previous PSL TV rights deal was for about $25M USD. That's absurdly low for the premier sporting event in a country of 250 million. It's not even like it's competing with various other forms of entertainment - the movie industry is underdeveloped, content streaming is not very monetised. Yes there is a vibrant television drama industry but that's not targeted at men at all. Can't believe there's so little money for sport in a $400Bn economy.

It's a conspiracy theory of course but maybe the channel that gets it is making a lot more money out of and backhanding some of it to the politicians.

The last rights (season 10) were bought for PKR 506 million. So 149% increase puts PSL XI rights at PKR 1.26 billion which is equal to about USD 4.45 million.
Not my words, I just put out what Copilot said.

Tbh, I was expecting a BCCI volcano by now...but lol what news are getting so far. Steve Smith joins PSL, record sales for media rights, Harbhajan imploring 😭😭🤣🤣

@Rajdeep @Devadwal
Steve Smith played in IPL first time in 2012. Infact IPL and Pune Warriors first identified his talent before he became ATG batter for Australia. Thats what IPL does....not just rope in big names.

Btw, current version of Steve Smith is not a good T20 player and went unsold in IPL. He was also benched for majority games in IPL when he got a team. You can keep all the expired cricketers.

Didn't you watch BBL this time around...even cricinfo folks were licking lips on his red hot form....Do check or search

Making the PSL go head to head with IPL and validating that with a flourishing product is something the PCB has to be proud of.

For all the bankruptcy, isolation, and lobbying done by the bobbleheads, this is a telling response.

That seems wrong. From a couple of sources, the value for the previous one year deal seems around PKR6.3Bn so about $20 odd million USD

PSL broadcasting rights sold for Rs. 6.3 billion

LOL. If he was in such good form, why is he not playing WT20 for Australia? Thing is, he is not good enough for IPL. Hence he was benched season after season before dropped. Same was the case with Joe Root. The only thing Root manage to do in IPL was shaking legs with Yuzi Chahal playing for Rajasthan Royals.

Ok. That's 55 million usd. Assuming old one was 22 million usd.

Just for reference bbl is 1.2 billion usd, sa20 is 260 million usd. Cpl is 20 million usd. The hundred is 65 million usd.

Good jump if true and will bode well for pcb

Most of those are not anywhere near right. You're conflating 10 year deals with 1 year deals and in some cases like SA20, the numbers are flat out wrong.

Smith was not picked by Australia because ACB is strictly driven by policies which prohibits bringing back a 36 year old in the T20 set up. He is still good enough though unless you are biased.

Even IPL's international deal pales in comparison to its domestic market i.e. $27 million a year

Good enough for PSL standards. He has played in IPL in his relative prime few years ago and still was benched. Modern day T20 demands are very different and players like Steve Smith is not something franchise owners should looks upon.

Hey I am not spoiling your party. Steve Smith is a big name in world cricket, so congratulations. However context matters.

So the final number is $3.2 million for the year.

This is less than Rishabh Pants annual IPL salary. Very depressing comparison
