Thanks for sharing bro

I wonder how stupid one can be? Basit thinks PCB that comes under PM and have Sethi the chairman of EC will follow Imran (an opposition leader) orders to take no action against someone in their organization? And lets suppose this happen than why Pervez Rashid, Danial Aziz etc kept their mouth close? IK ko to cheenk be aa jaaye to yeh press conference kerdete hen lol

Bitter man. Shame on ARY News for arranging such a cheap show. Didn't expect Omar Sharif to be part of such type of shows at least.

Omar Sharif is gone down hill at this age of his career now he use cheap tactics, personal attacks and cheap jokes to make audience laugh. He was far better earlier in his career

Exact same sentiments.

Umar Sharif was very good in the 80s and 90s. I remember my Dad used to get VHS's of quality Pakistani comedy programme when I was a kid and Umar Sharif was the best of the best.

Now it's sickening to watch him. He sounds lame and redundant and his jokes are tired, old and pathetic.

When I see him now on ARY he looks drunk and it seems even his Co hosts like Waseem Badami are embarrassed by him.

People just want to ignore all corruptness, politics, bias, nepotism, regionalism, going on in the country for past so many years and blame our failures on pety reason such as lack of talent, pick this player pick that player etc.

Pakistanis dont like listening to the truth and resolve these issues, hence Basit Ali, Rashid Latif, Miandad and Sarfaraz Nawaz etc are unpopular figures in Pakistan.

Oh be quiet. Biggest clowns in Pakistan the lot of them. Basit Ali, Sarfraz etc....all have problems in the head.

He has become old now. Its expected from him still I laugh at his jokes like anything. Moin Akhtar was certainly a class above, more mature. Thing is some of their jokes fly over peoples heads in our country hence the dispopularity sometimes.

They might have problems, but they speak the truth which no one else from munafiqeen in our country do.

NEW DELHI: Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali, in an interview with TimesofIndia.com, has spoken about the differences in the Pakistan team when he was a part of it and pointed at an alleged conspiracy to remove Javed Miandad from the team.

According to him Pakistan’s 1992 World Cup winning captain and current Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, who retired from international cricket after that edition of the World Cup, was behind star batsman Miandad being sidelined in 1993.

Basit, who represented Pakistan in 19 Tests and 50 ODIs between 1993 and 1996 and often drew comparisons with Miandad due to his swashbuckling batting style, also alleged that the comparisons were a ploy to remove Miandad and that he was used as a pawn.

“There was a conspiracy to remove Javed Miandad from the team (around 1993). That’s why I was being compared with him. Honestly, I was not even one percent of what Miandad was. I used to bat at number 4 and when Miandad was removed, they shifted me to number 6. At number 4 , I used to average 55 and when they shifted me to 6, my performance went down. They knew that at that position, I would hardly ever get to bat. They gave me slow poison,” Basit told Timesofindia.com in an exclusive interview from Pakistan.

“I was really passionate about my game. I used to go for the big shots and get out. My batting hardly used to come."

When asked who asked him to first bat at number 4 and then drop down to 6, Basit said, "Wasim Akram was the captain at that time, but the man who was responsible for Miandad's ouster is the one who used to give the orders and that was Imran Khan.”

Basit also revealed that after being sidelined from the ODI team in 1993, Miandad, who represented Pakistan in 6 World Cups (joint highest in cricketing history), approached the players and requested them to let him play his sixth World Cup.

“I am going to share something you might not be aware of. I have been quiet because of my country. Miandad wasn’t included in the 1996 World Cup squad. His name wasn't there initially. I was there in the 15-member squad. But he came with a request to the players and said he wanted to play the World Cup. He asked us - who will give me his spot? He wanted to make the most World Cup appearances record. So, I pulled out,” Basit said

“I was in my prime (in 1995 and 1996) at that time, but still I sacrificed my place because I respected Miandad,” the former cricketer told TimesofIndia.com

Miandad, who was known for his unique technique and control while batting, is one of the two cricketers in the world who have represented their country in six World Cups. The other is Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar.

In 33 World Cup matches between 1975 and 1996, Miandad scored 1083 runs at an average of 43.32, including one century. He scored a fine 103 off 100 balls against Sri Lanka in the 1987 World Cup.

He also played 124 Tests and 233 ODIs for Pakistan, scoring 8832 and 7381 runs respectively. The Pakistan legend has 23 Test and 8 ODI centuries under his belt.

Basit also claimed that when Wasim Akram became the Pakistan captain in 1993, some players revolted against the star pacer.

“In 1993, there was a revolt against Akram when he became Pakistan team captain. The players revolted against Akram and told him that he follows Imran's orders, so they won't play under him,” Basit said.

Miandad was undeservedly dropped in 1993 by the selectors, he raised a hue and cry about not being picked by the selectors in 1994 and finally when the PCB agreed to pick him, he developed a knee injury which sidelined him in 1994-95 and he only came back for the 1996 ODI World Cup with zero match practice and fitness, it was ludicrous to select him just on the basis of his reputation and it cost us really badly in the 1996 QF.

I tend to take anything Basit says with a pinch of salt.

Not the most reliable speaker.

He's a very bitter person but he was definitely a very talented batsman who was treated poorly. Definitely deserved more chances than the utter dross which represented Pakistan in those times.

If he gave up his WC spot for Miandad in 96 he's an even bigger fool than I thought

He hardly set the world on fire in the 18 months previous to the Wc so i very much doubt he was going to get selected

Another pakistani who likes to exaggerate more than a little

During his career of 19 test matches, he played the grand total of 2 innings as a number 4 batsman. First one against New Zealand in 1994, where he scored 85 runs ( It was a batting paradise because in the same innings Saeed Anwar scored 169 Saleem Malik 140 and Inzaman 135 not out and all of them scored these with much better strike rate than Basit) and second time was against Zimbabwe where he scored 0. So, his average at number 4 position is 42.50 runs.

Apart from these two innings, he never played at no 4. In majority of his career (including his first tour of West indies) he played at no 5 or 6.

In ODis, he played only 7 innings at no 4 position with the mighty average of 17.67 and strike rate was 59.

So, when did he averaged 55 at number 4?

This genius should have checked at least his own stats before twisting the facts and history.:inti

I speak from experience of living through the 70s & 80s in Pakistan that there was a feeling that IK was not nice to Karachiwallas. JM has by and large gotten over that but some others like Basit havent.
