DHAKA: A 14-year-old cricketer has died in Bangladesh after he was hit by a stump thrown by an angry batsman during a friendly game between neighbourhood teams, police said Monday.

Faisal Hossain was fielding in the southeastern port city of Chittagong when the batsman was given out, assistant police commissioner Jahangir Alam told AFP.

“The batsman was furious when he saw that he was stumped or bowled out. He grabbed a stump and threw it in the air. The stump hit part of the neck and head of Faisal who was fielding close to the wicket,” he said.

“He collapsed on the ground in pain and was declared dead after he was taken to a hospital.”

The batsman has been detained and will be prosecuted for causing unintentional death, police said. Clashes are common over cricket in Bangladesh, where the sport is taken seriously even at village level.

Last May, a batsman wielding a stump allegedly beat a 16-year-old cricketer to death in Dhaka after the teenager taunted the umpire over a no-ball delivery.

Sad sad how is a game played like that?Wasnt their some news from KP too like that? No wonder when aggression is looked upon, words like tigers and what not.

RIP,parents really need to sit down with their children and coaches with their students on how to approach failure and success.

My Dad always says to me that an outburst of anger remains with us for only a few moments but what we do in those few moments remains with us for a long time.

RIP to the deceased.

Truly horrendous. Seems to be somewhat accidental though unlike the other case mentioned where the batsman beat a fielder to death.

RIP..

Desi people have anger management issues, I think it is due to the hot climate. The next 'phadaa' is always around the corner.

This is unbelievably sad. I have seen Bangladeshi's act similarly hot headed playing cricket in East London. I always assumed it had something to do with Napoleon complex.

Trust some people to self loathe and make it a 'desi' issue  Anger issues exist everywhere in the world its not a SC only thing.

RIP to the kid. Not sure you can say much to the 14 year old though, this incident might be in itself the hardest lesson he could've got to curb his aggression in future.

It was an accidental death. Fit of rage accidentally killed some innocent. RIP.

Not really - not the best thread to discuss these things when someone got killed; but if you go to any football match in UK, Germany, Latin America, you'll realize what is hooliganism. And, the Russian grounds are racist enough not to host World Cup there, but money talks.

Subcontinent fans are emotional, but not hooligans.

RIP to the boy.
My condolence to the batsman as well, this might haunt him for rest of his life. Things happen in heat of the moment which you don't intend to, there's always a "what If" which will keep nagging him. May the boy get proper counseling to overcome this.

Very sad news.

Condolences to his family.
