IPL 2020 BCCI Revenues : The Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) has declared that the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) has been a super successful season for cricket on every parameter. In an interview to Indian Express, BCCI Treasurer declared that the board earned 4000 Cr, reduced costs by 35% and viewership increased by 25%. According to Dhumal, giving this kind of performance in pandemic times shows how the strength and acceptability of the product IPL.

Dhumal told Indian Express, “The Board managed to cut nearly 35 per cent of the cost as compared to the last IPL. We earned Rs 4,000 crore during the pandemic time. Our TV viewership went about 25 per cent higher, we got the highest-ever opening game (Mumbai Indians versus Chennai Super Kings) viewership. Those who doubted us came and thanked us for hosting the IPL. Had this IPL not happened, cricketers would have lost one year.”

How were costs reduced by 35%? Surely the biobubbles alone would have cost a fair bit, not to mention the higher costs associated with hosting games in UAE stadiums vs Indian ones.

I can see it, IPL will become a bigger money maker than the NBA, NFL, MLB etc in a decade or so... Its a real shame that Pakistani players are not allowed to participate in it, political climate is not suited I guess.. I hope we will see Pak players in the IPL soon.

Expect travelling, administration, and security costs would have plummeted.

BCCI paid a whopping 14 million dollars (nearly 100 crore) to Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) to stage the tournament in Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi.

What is that in USD and how does it compare to prior years?

We are still scratching at the surface. IPL is a goldmine potentially. Its a parallel economy and it is inevitable for IPL to grow in number of teams and fixtures.

Yep. Franchise cricket is still an artificial entity. Little grassroot presence. We need lower leagues and local investment to get somewhere like English football scene.

According to Ormax Media - CSK, MI, RCB have emerged in the Top 3 who has the biggest fanbase in IPL.

I feel Embarrassed that the BCCI has made such a gigantic sum of money during a pandemic hit IPL in UAE vs what the PCB could muster up for the PSL in UAE pre pandemic from 2016 to 2019 combined.

Highlights the embarrassing disparity between the two boards

As per latest reports, the CWC added Rs 11,000 crore to the Bharatiya economy.

Roughly $1.4 billion.
