Having formally invited an Oman team to take part in a quadrangular Under-19 tournament, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has withdrawn the invite, stating that circumstances are not conducive currently for its visit.

A formal mail was recently sent to Oman Cricket (OC) informing it about the withdrawal of the above proposal.

As reported by this paper recently, the unstated reason was the presence of a substantial number of Pakistan players in the Oman team; acquiring visas for the players of Pakistan nationality has become impossible in view of the tensions between India and Pakistan.

An Oman Cricket official confirmed that their national team will not be travelling to India.

“We are not in a position to accept the BCCI invite,” OC chief Pankaj Khimji told Mirror from Muscat.

He also conceded that the presence of Pakistan players in the team may have been the reason but said Oman is hoping to play with India on another occasion at a different venue.

“Our relations with the BCCI are very good. There are two Oman players and seven players each from two different nationalities in our national squad. It may have been an issue in India. We are hoping to play with India some other time,” the OC official said.

The senior Oman team was to compete in a quadrangular tournament starting on March 6.

Two India Under-19 sides and a South Africa youth team were also to take part in it.

The tournament will go ahead as scheduled in Trivandrum but now an Afghanistan team is expected to take the place of the Oman side.

“Finding a replacement at the last minute was not easy as most teams, particularly the full-member countries, are already busy. We have to look at the availability of different teams,” said a BCCI source.

The Afghan Under-19 team, however, is believed to have confirmed participation.

This is pathetic from the Indian side. BCCI not to blame but surely exceptions to processes can be made for sports teams? Players are representing Oman not Pakistan.

Election time. Expected.

They hold a Pakistani passport. Thats the thing. If they had Omani passports it wouldnot have been an issue.

We have to live with the realities of the world. India and Pakistan are not friendly countries.

Gents - pls lets not make it into an India political issue - lets stick to broad level India Pakistan issues.

Thanks

It is sad to see some Indians coming here to justify this. Let's get it straight, it's not about India and Pakistan being enemy nations. Its about Indians being incredibly petty and little. They need to learn a thing or two about being magnanimous.

And sports and politics should be separate.

But clearly India cannot fathom that thing.

Agree.

It's ironic that many people here are okay with the boycott of Israel by the Muslim world, but call India as 'petty' and 'un-sporting' for doing the same.

When Pakistan cancelled series with India. When Pakistan refused to come to India for Asia cup 1990 then they mixed politics with sports. India just followed the template.

Pakistan have even boycotted Olympics over politics.

Clearly Pakistan is in no position to take pontificate to Indians.

Are Pakistan occupying 99% of India?
Has Pakistan enforced a blockade on India?
Does Pakistan kill Indian journalists in broad day light?
Does Pakistan control every movement of the Indians?
Does Pakistan shoot at Indian cricketers?
.

Unfortunate sports and politics can’t be separated. US and most of EU boycotted Moscow Olympics. Pakistan too supported USA in boycott even though It was not directly involved. Russia paid back next time.

There are chess and Tennis tournaments in Middle East getting cancelled because they wouldn’t invite Israel even though Israeli C teams will beat combined Middle East teams in these sports.

Pakistan has refused to send its players in India for political reason and has never invited Israel or vice versa in sports events even though Israel has no direct enmity with Pakistan.

This is not a good situation as we can blame India or BCCI but this is life.

Clearly a technical issue this. Should have been avoided as India doesn’t have any issues with the people of Pakistan. The players are representing Oman.

This is highly contentious post! All boycotters have enough reasons why they did what they did! It’s unfortunate fact of world?

Has Israel done any of these things to Pakistan?? Pakistan has directly participated in Arab-Israel war and PAF has shot down Israel fighter planes. There are some PAF public case studies on the same. However Israel has never attacked or blockaded Pakistan as far as I know.

Pakistan can’t take responsibility for the whole Islamic world and then expect India to allow Pakistani players in Oman team differently. This is hypocrisy!

Hehe you guys would have done all that and more if you had the power :P

I totally support the withdrawal of the invitation.

What the *** are Pakistanis doing in Oman team. National teams should not have guns for hire. It makes a mockery of cricket.

At the very least, create a path to citizenship for sports players from foreign countries - and then get only those players in your team who are already nationals. Same goes for all other Gulf teams.

What a farce these gulf teams are - I'd ban them for as long as they have a single foreign player anywhere in their set up.

Chalo, as always India are following it’s real leader in everything, kuch you seekho gaye na:)

His point stands. Israel doesn't do any of these to Pakistan or most Muslim nations either, but still they face a total boycott.

If sports and politics shouldn't be mixed, then we must at least stay consistent with the idea.

India states terrorism to be a reason for the boycott. Mumbai, Uri, arming militants in Kashmir.. enough reasons I guess? Having said that, it's sad to see Oman Cricket paying the price here. Some exposure would have surely helped their Cricket, like it did with Afganistan.

If Pakistan had the ability it would have done all that to India.

Israel has done none of those things to Pakistan.

Pakistan promotes supports funds and arms a terrorist movement in India.

We just give back what we receive with interest. Love how PCB literally cries for a series.

good news is they still can be allow to enter india if they qualify for worldcup .After all there is no boycott for big events:))

Brilliant.

So you take your inspiration from Pakistan.

I thought India was a liberal and independent country which would emulate great countries instead of adopting the myopic Pakistani approach.

But clearly not only do you support this stance, you even try to vindicate it by taking inspiration from Pakistan.

Do I have to say anything anymore mate?

And you can not stop us to do that. How spineless you are.

I just gave you Pakistan's example as this case involves Pakistan. Almost the Entire West boycotted the Moscow olympics and entire soviet allied nations boycotted the next olympics.

Muslim countries boycott Israel.

So entire world mixes sports with politics. Pakistan did it when it didnot hit their interests. Pakistan is only keen to restart sporting relations with India as they are hit financially by this boycott.

This has been the case for last many years. Even Usman Khawaja had issues getting the Indian Visa first time. And that was during MMS regime. Nothing to do with the elections.

Even Saqib Mahmood had visa issues even though I doubt that guy has ever been to Pakistan. If people of Iran and Qatar can visit UAE and Saudi why can't Pakistanis visit India?

Actually, The Israelis planned to attack Pakistan’s nuclear facility in Kahuta in 1983-84.

Take a read son

Israel has occupied parts of Syria too.

And they really don’t face a total boycott, many Arab countries that are against Palestine and Iran are allies with Israel, one of them being Saudi Arabia.

Pakistan cannot chose to be an ally for many reasons, as it could harm our relations with our neighbours Iran.

And, if Israel were to bring their cricket team to Pakistan, I’m pretty sure even though Israeli passport holders aren’t allowed entry into Pakistan, we’d make an exception and allow the athletes to enter through extreme vetting.

Wonder what India are doing in Afghanistan besides building libraries?

Wonder who funds the baloch national movement?

Wonder which country is trying to create unrest in Balochistan due to Chinese involvement in Gwadar port?

If Pakistan had the ability it would have done all that to India.

Israel has done none of those things to Pakistan.

Pakistan promotes supports funds and arms a terrorist movement in India.

Israel has worked with India many times in the past to attack Pakistan from Indian air bases - but India backed out.

Don’t act like India doesn’t fund and support terrrorist movements in Pakistan.

You do realize this is Oman we are talking about right?

I could almost understand your hatred if a Pakistani team had tried to participate in the competition.

So tell me, because you gave so much precedent in your example , WHICH COUNTRY in the world decided to reject another COUNTRY'S TEAM FROM ENTERING because it had players of assumed enemy origin?

Curious.

Will Israelis be allowed into Pakistan if they played for another country?

Those players still had pakistani passports.

Understandably you want to keep the thread on its course but this is an Indian political issue.

A political move making the likes of joshila happy that their government had done something. laughable.

Indians are small hearted people generally so I am not suprised. When they have a little bit of power; their attitudes change.

In an ideal world, it should have been the case.

PCB did bring politics in to cricket and opened up the pandoras box. BCCI giving it back because it is now in the same position as PCB were.

Nothing has changed. Only the two sides changed roles.

Take it as an unhealthy relationship between girlfriend and boyfriend. No one will want to lose face.

No chance of cricket growing as a sport while India is the biggest player. Eventually it will lead to the game becoming even more marginalised while countries like Oman and Pakistan will drift towards football inshallah.

this is jsut pathetic by BCCI simple as that

I find it funny how cricket joshilla is defending this.

What a pathetic response from OC chief??? He is saying, its ok we will play some other time? Loser attitude this. He should stand up for his team, not suck upto bcci

The board and the nations government are so bitter. This prob gives them some sort of great satfisaction thinking they are a great power who can pick and choose how to treat people.

Oman should never go to India and neither should the Pak team now.

What will BCCI do? Its a simple fact that Pakistani passport holders wont a visa. Whats BCCI supposed to do?
