Begum Kulsoom Nawaz passes away

LONDON: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s wife, Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, passed away on Tuesday.

Begum Kulsoom was under treatment at London’s Harley Street Clinic since June 2014.

She was placed on life support earlier today as her health began deteriorating, said sources at Harley Street Clinic where former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s wife is currently admitted.

Begum Kulsoom’s health began deteriorating last night as she has developed a lungs problem again, the sources said.

She is in a critical condition and doctors have placed her back on ventilator, the sources added.

“She is also undergoing kidney dialysis,” they further said.

The former premier’s wife, who has been undergoing cancer treatment at the clinic in London, was taken off ventilator last month.

“She had been responding well without the ventilator until last night,” the sources said.

The Sharif family has confirmed that Begum Kulsoom is critical and appealed for prayers.

The ex-prime minister's wife was admitted to the hospital on June 14 after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Begum Kulsoom was diagnosed with lymphoma (throat) cancer in August 2017.

LAHORE: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter, Maryam Nawaz, and son-in-law, Captain (retd) Safdar will be granted parole for Begum Kulsoom's funeral, said sources at the Interior Ministry on Tuesday.

The three will be granted parole from the time of Begum Kulsoom’s funeral prayers till her burial, the sources said.

A request is necessary for parole to be granted, they added.

According to sources, the Sharif family has decided to bring back Begum Kulsoom's body to Pakistan.

"She will be laid to rest in Pakistan," the family sources said.
