Ben Stokes - The absolute madman

I know right now Ben Stokes went from being an anti-hero to a full on villain in the majority of cricket circles, but seriously speaking, don't we need a mix of characters in this game? Doesn't it get boring when every Tom, Dick and Ajmal playing cricket is a well behaved boy who doesn't sledge, doesn't get in your face, and is just generally passive?

Cricket to me is like a live action series. You can't have all the characters be protagonists (Kohli, Babar, Amir). You need antagonists (Stokes, Hales, Gayle) as well as filler characters (Amla, Mustafizur).

Of course what he did was absolutely wrong and he deserves whatever repercussions come his way from the law. But people attacking his character that he was always an on field bully need to cool it, because we need a mix of personalities on the cricket field if we want the game to live and breathe for the foreseeable future.

Absolutely. I absolutely agree. You don't want a bunch of sissies playing the great game. One of the main reasons why people watch sport and 20 men on the field running around like little girls is because of the aggression in their personalities, the passion in their eyes and the will to put themselves on the line.

I disagree. Infact Kohli looks like an anti-hero. Amir comes across as a protagonist even with his past and the way he came back. Misbah ul haq was a protoagonist. Kane williamson is one as well.

Amir played the victim and remorse card well (not that time I blame him - anyone would do the same in his position and it was his best option for returning back to the team)

However, that still doesn't excuse his actions. Many players are still unhappy with his return.

However, he is bowling well and that is all that matters now. Hence, that makes him an anti-hero.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Nothing wrong with aggressive behavior but in the brawl he was involved in; someone could have had life changing injuries or even death another time. Terrible behavior.

Being aggressive on the field and off the field are two different aspects.

We need aggression on the field.

If that aggression could lead to people beating each other up on street, then no thanks.

Have faced enough of those already. It ends in two results.

Either you will goto hospital or the the people you have beaten will have to go. And I want neither if those.

People dont want to see disabled children mocking, assault inflicting dirtbags making millions on the field however and generally acting like Kings when they're really just street trash.

Also, if antagonists are what people want, why do soooo many people here slate the Aussies for basically anything when they pretty much provide the competitiveness, fight and grit you ask for in the OP lol.

people slate the Aussies because its fun, we also appreciate their ATGs, many of whom has similar behaviour to stokes such as symonds and warne.
