By English I mean just that not someone who has played in the current EPL. There have been so many great ones like Cole, Rooney, Fowler, Owen, Keegan Shearer, Sheringham, Linekar, Wright, Charlton, Greaves and now their is Kane to name a few that come to mind. Having thought about it my vote is for Alan Shearer as he could score all types of goals.

Shearer before his injury was just something else and even after his injury he was excellent. Lineker was purely a goal scorer and didn't offer enough outside the box, Owen was brilliant for a few years but by 2002 WC he was on the wane.

It's difficult as I reckon it could be one out of Lineker, Shearer and Greaves, perhaps Charlton. Lineker edges it for me.

Alan Shearer or Gary Linekar.

I’m a United fan and want to say Rooney but he’s been pretty average since 2010 whilst banging in goals still.

Michael Owen was a fantastic talent but again like Rooney, peaked too early and injuries hampered him.

Jimmy Greaves - great stats but I knew him as a pundit and not a player.

Sheringham is the classiest England striker I’ve seen but not the best.

Interestingly United and Liverpool’s top strikers in the late 80 and early 90s were Scottish or Welsh.

That is strange. I guess the old skool typical English strikers have been a rare breed now at the top level.

Harry Kane will be up there in the a couple of seasons. I read Utd want him in the summer. Would be a great signing for your team or would you prefer a foriegn strikers such as Icardi?

Matt Le Tissier was outrageous, he would have been the best had he played for a bigger club. Another player I rated was Fowler, incredible finisher!

When we have this conversation in 10 years time on 2029 - the answer would be an obvious one - MASON GREENWOOD.

...or Rhian Brewster who is also gonna be a big star. He is injured otherwise would have most likely made his Liverpool debut by now.

I’m a sucker for marketing and Icardi just seems so much more exotic and appealing than Arry Kane!

To be fair Aguero and Suarez are also Latino players and just seem so much more appealing than Harry Kane who is a quality player.

Andy Cole

Would be interesting to see stats on 100% chances missed by him. I never liked ManU but what I remember is how we shouted at him when he missed so many clear chances. But we shouted way more at Forlan. Must be one of the unluckiest stints at PL team.

Best I have seen is Alan Shearer.

Absolutely brilliant.

I remember seeing him live a couple of times for Blackburn and he was sensational.
