Dont know
Virat Kohli, Steven Smith, AB de Villiers
Jimmy Anderson, Dale Steyn, Vernon Philander

South Africa: Best away record, full of match winners and the most consistent pace attack

India: Won the WC, the CT, made the CT final and a WC semi, it's honestly very self explanatory, Dhoni and Kohli have laid the platform and profited from what will be seen as a golden era

Smith, Kohli, Sanga/Amla: Smith is on track for "best since Bradman" territory and Kohli has produced memorable tours of SA and Australia as a subcontinent batsman with an absurd daddy hundred conversion ratio so those two are undisputed. Sanga averaged above 60 and scored a ton at better than a ton every three games in the 2010s, but profited from Bangladesh while Amla has a terrific away record in the same timeframe, so it's a coin toss between the two.

Anderson, Steyn, Philander: Can't stitch an argument for anyone else so I think the reasoning is pretty clear. An English great, a true ATG, and one of the most underrated and consistent bowlers in recent history.

Best test team of 2010s? South Africa followed by India.

Best ODI team? India - on account of their overall win-loss ratio as well as performances in ICC tournaments.

Best overall all-formats team? Perhaps India.

Australia haven't recovered from the retirement of their big gun even now. England consistently middle of the table team after Bothom's famous prophecy of world domination. Pakistan have continued being comatose save for showing signs of life intermittently.

South Africa
India
Kohli, Sangakkara, de Villiers
Steyn, Anderson, Starc

Surprised to see people picking Philander ahead of Starc.

Would be nice to see if India can get past Saffers as the best test team of this decade before the cut off date of 31 December 2019. Would be a commendable feat if they can given there are so many overseas tests lined up. Would be a serious achievement for India to have dominated all the formats for a full decade.

Good question, so I'll go for:

Best test team has got to be South Africa from the start of 2010 (drawing the Oliviera series) till the retirements of Kallis and Smith from 2013 to 2014. Before losing to Australia, they had not lost a test series in almost half a decade. How they werent ranked number one for longer in that period is shocking.

Best ODI team is a tough one. India, England and at times Australia have all been worthy. India won the WC in 2011 and Aus in 2015 but neither team has been as dominant as England post 2015 wc and their change in strategy. I'm calling it a 3-way tie till whoever wins the 2019 cup.

Top 3 batsmen, across format, I'd go for - Amla, AB and Kohli. Root, Williamson, KP, Khan and a few others all had a shout but there were gaps in how they performed across tests, 50 overs and t20s. The top 3 have done exceptionally well in all types of cricket.

Top 3 bowlers, again I'll be looking at it across formats and I'd have to go for - Steyn, Anderson and Ajmal. Broad, Morkel, Herath, Starc and Johnson are somewhat unlucky to miss out.

1) Best Test team: South Africa.
2) Best ODI team: Australia/India.
3) Best Test batsmen: Amla, S. Smith and Sanga/Younis.
4) Best Test bowlers: Steyn, Anderson and Herath
5) Best ODI batsmen: ABD, Kohli and Amla.
6) Best ODI bowlers: Starc, Ajmal and Rabada.

Still two years to go so these rankings are tentative.

They can't and won't. South Africa were invincible for the first five years of the decade and again have a pretty strong team. In ODIs, Australia and India have been on par but Pakistan can also get there if they win the WC next year.

Don't care much for T20s but Pakistan have been the best team in that format with some of the best T20 players playing for them as well.

Pakistan were the best T20 of the previous decade. After 2012 they have slipped down the rankings. I'd say WI is the best team of the decade on account of winning 2 T20 championships.

Following is the W/L ratio for the test nations (minus Ireland, Afghanistan and Zim) against each other

1. SA
2. India or SA (India trumps most teams in tournaments and SA has won bilateral series in almost all countries)
3. AB, Virat, Sanga/Amla (all 3 formats matter, even if tests are given a higher weightage)
4. Steyn, Boult, Anderson

Great assessment. Pak and Eng are still in with a shout for ODI team of the decade.

SA are too far ahead in terms of tests for India to catch up, Aus/Eng are more likey to do so.

Imagine if Aus win in SA, then then UAE, then beat India at home and then beat Eng away. I think they'd be rated at least on par with SA.

Gonna do a tentative test and ODI XI thus far:

Tests
1. Warner/Cook
2. Amla
3. Williamson/Root
4. Y. Khan
5. Kohli
6. Smith c
7. Shakib
8. Prior wk
9. Philander/Broad
10. Anderson
11. Steyn/Starc

A very tentative XI but I'll think about it more later. An ODI XI seems to pick itself

1. Warner
2. Dilshan
3. Amla
4. Kohli
5. ABD
6. Dhoni wk/c
7. Shakib
8. Southee
9. Starc
10. Ajmal
11. Malinga

Obviously this is likely to change with the way the likes of QDK, Buttler, Stokes, Rashid, Hasan Ali and plenty of others are playing.

Yes, if they win the world cup, they would have won 2 of the 5 ODI tournaments this year. Add in IF they have successful bilateral series' in that time and they have a shout.

I'd still rate Eng, Aus, India higher if they won the next world cup.

Yes. Pakistan have been very inconsistent this decade but still have series wins in India and South Africa, and won a CT. If they win the next WC, they are definitely in the running for team of the decade although the same can be said of England and South Africa.

I've left SA out of my analysis but outside of tournament play, they are often very, very good, although the last 6 months or so have been a torrid time for them (thrashed in England and now losing against India). However, if they win the wc, which is highly unlikely, then coupled with all their bilateral success, they are in for a shout too.
