Better ODI player - Sanath Jayasuriya vs AB de Villiers?

Jayasuriya> anyone from the current era.

Forget de Villiers ,even the best batsmen of this era, Virat Kohli, strikes at 90 runs while Jayasuriya striked at 92 in 90s-00s.

Jayasuriya won 2 WC knockouts and was MOS while Kohli has done nothing in WC.

So let me get this straight , Kohli has done nothing in WC and Jayasuriya has 2 top knocks. Therefore Jayasuriya is better than De Villiers . What a correlation !!

You can go even further back. Krish Srikkanth is officially the first to do this role. But it was not a strategy or plan. That is how he played Tests and ODIs. Srikkanth had outrageous strike rates even in Tests. Having said attack from both ends was conceived only by Srilanka. Basically they treated their runs as bonus. They didn't mind them losing their wickets.

Yup Kris Srikkanth did that way before any of the above but again he just played that way and did not think of making use of 15 over rule as such. Mark Greatbatch was the first strategic opener specifically used to make use of the 15 over restriction. Sachin Tendulkar was promoted to open but even though he naturally was an aggressive player, he made use of the 15 over restriction on purpose to give great start for India. Sanath and Kalu were Sri Lanka's way of trying to make use of the field restrictions and luckily for them they succeeded. Kalu unfortunately lost out as I felt he was one of the best batsman SL produced in the 90's. He lost out to the slogathon. He could have been a good player for SL if he were playing in the middle order. I still remember in the 1994/95 tri series in Australia, he took apart McGrath and co while Jaya was a spectator most often. Kalu was class, just did not fulfil his talent. Ranatunga and SL management were the reason for the same.

Jayasuriya is better player overall than AbD.

If we comparing just as a batsman then AbD is far better than Jayasuriya, however Jayasuriya brings in alot with the ball as well.

Fun fact : Sanath Jayasuriya has more ODI wickets than Shane Warne (323 vs 293)
