All with the obvious exception of Ayub will be fit for the IPL. All of them just resting up to make sure they get back to full fitness for the IPL.

Let's see , IPL is start just 10 day after the champion trophy .

:kp

This is not good for international cricket if players are preferred league over ICC tournaments .

:kp
Yes it is not. But reality is reality.

Free market and fan preferences should and will prevail.

Champion trophy is happening very close to IPL is the reason why player's are resting ( Recovering from niggle/ injury) from the tournament?

I knew this was going to happen. If I knew, ICC would definitely have known. Yet they schedule their event close to IPL. People never learn.

Never schedule anything close to start of the IPL. For that matter, do not schedule anything for at least 3-4 weeks after the IPL is done. Scheduling before IPL means players will find ways not to play. Scheduling too close after the IPL will not give players rest and recovery time.

Bad time slot i must say. Sandwiched between IPL and exhaustive Test series for a lot of teams. Then few more series coming through. To make matter worse hybrid model.

The most affected team is Australia atm... their main bowling lineup is all out of this event. A huge setback for Australia and their CT campaign

The Champions Trophy will matter only to Pakistan or India due their massive emotional fan following. If one of the two wins, it will leave a big impact among both set of fans. If neither win, it wont matter :afridi... These two donot care about other teams fans or their opinions... unless its Bangladesh..

( this is what i feel)

Elite players don’t rate CT as a big event hence resting only in Pak we rest main players from test cricket for this tournament

Yeah looks like a flop tournament already with most players dropping out. Happy days for us Bharatiyas.

The only reason why this tournament exists is because India and Pakistan won the last two editions.

That is why I want some boring final like South Africa vs New Zealand in front of 5000 people in order for the ICC to bin this garbage tournament forever.

I thibk Australian players are pulling out due to the lockdown nature of Pakistan when hosting teams. Players dont want to go through that, especially Australia that have been through it before.

Plus, after this IPL is coming, so for alot of these players staying in the subcontinent this long is not ideal especially when you have to be in lockdown in Pakistan.

So its logical to pull out of the tournament that isnt highly rated and go for the IPL to make some easy and good money

For us, this ct is important as we are not only the defending champipms but because this is the first time since 1996, Pakistan is hosting an international icc tournament.

Na. Its not that. Champions trophy is a filler tournament.

Icc wants a tournament each year, so with world t20 and world cup being schduled as such that there is an year inbetween with no tournament, they decided to fill it with CT and the Test champsionship one off match

It is a shame but it gives a chance for other players to make a name for themselves.

In the last tournament Fakhar, Hassan Ali and even Shadab became big names in Pakistan.

Similarly Bumrah after humiliating his country on the big stage worked hard to become a good bowler.

Hopefully a youngster can throw up a surprise.

Let's be honest, a lot of these players are prioritizing their IPL paycheques, why risk unnecessary injury by playing in the CT just before the IPL.

I dont think so. Teams like Aus takes a lot of pride in ICC events and will never rest someone unless injured. It is a short tournament anyway of max 5 games.

During an interview on a podcast, Australia women’s captain Alyssa Healy clarified that her husband, Mitchell Starc’s decision to opt out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to ‘personal reasons’ has nothing to do with their family:

“Don’t look at me. I don’t know (laughs). I haven’t asked him yet."

“He went to Sri Lanka as well and did that leg of the tour. So yeah, he is fine everyone."

“I am fine. Hadds (Brad Haddin) suggested maybe I was pregnant but I can guarantee that I’m not. Yeah we’re fine… Move on."

Pointless to risk/aggravate injury before the real showpiece IPL.

If this dont signal end of ODIs, not sure what will? Many players have lost interest in ODIs while back. I have been parroting for something like a T30 format to replace both ODI and T20s.

No one cares about x, y or z player

Only if the big teams refused would it be remembered and be a huge blow

Bumrah missed the T20 world cup 2022, but it had zero impact (except for india)

Everyone will just look at the teams that played and who won - that's all

Ben Sears of New Zealand is also injured now (HAMSTRING).

Another injury LOL...

Losing so many key players like Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Jasprit Bumrah will definitely change the dynamics of the tournament .

:kp

Kapil Dev, during an interaction with a local media outlet:

"The quality of cricket Jasprit Bumrah has played in the last two years has been really impactful and I don't think any other fast bowler in the world has been able to produce that kind of a performance."

"Big players like Bumrah, R Ashwin, Anil Kumble, Zaheer Khan who gave out match winning performances and then to see them getting injured is indeed a problem for any side. I just hope Bumrah returns soon, because a big player is a big player."

Given the recent performances of the Sri Lanka team can we say that they are also some big names missing?

They have recently beat India and Australia. If they had qualified they would have been one of the favourites

Sri Lanka has whitewashed both India and Australia in an ODI series. Honestly I'll miss watching Sri Lankan spinners on these tracks in Pakistan during CT25.

They are good at home on those slow pitches but Lanka inclusion would have better than Bangladesh team :kp

IPL owners must be behind that ( except Ayyub's ). With millions of $$ at stake , they don't want to take any chances. Winning glory for the country is a thing of the past, money is more important , particularly for players like Starc and Hazlewood who are at the end of their career. Starc was not " lucky enough" to pick an injury, he opted out due to " personal reasons". Same is the case with Stoinis , he just retired from ODIs.

BGT has injured all the major bowlers.

5 Tests is a drag on bowlers who have to log 40 overs on average on a Test. Hazlewood was done by the end of 1st Test itself.

Champions torphy has been a curse for the opposition so far or maybe they are just saving themselves for the IPL...who knows.

That’s hypothetical. Lanka didn’t qualify, so didn’t Windies. Tough. Bangladesh was far ahead of them in ODI’s that time.

Fast bowler Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 with a foot injury.

Another injury.

New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 because of a foot injury he suffered during Sunday's warm-up match against Afghanistan in Karachi.

After bowling for a while, Ferguson experienced pain in his right foot, and a preliminary medical evaluation determined he would not be able to play the rest of the competition. The decision was made to send Ferguson home for recuperation because of the short timeframe of the Champions Trophy, which is scheduled to start tomorrow.

Canterbury Kings fast bowler Kyle Jamieson will join the Blackcaps team and travel to Pakistan this evening to cover Ferguson's absence.

I won't even call this a setback for NZ. Jamieson, if fully fit, is actually an upgrade over Lockie.

And he can bat also , But i don't think he is going to play any Match in the champion trophy. Maybe they can Play him against India.

thats bad now.

Yeah. If he and O Rourke play together, Indian batters will struggle especially since Dubai pitch has bounce.

Surprised to see what a poor record Jamieson has in white-ball. He would still be a massive threat if he plays but I think NZ would be more inclined to play Duffy considering his recent form.

Let's be honest all teams have great depth in squad and have very good replacements except for Pakistan. Australia though has too many unavailable players, and India for sure will miss Bumrah just as Pakistan are missing Saim.

There was a golden opportunity to watch SL. But the opportunity was not explored at all.

The ICC could have easily gotten SL in place of Ind. Would have taken them all of maybe five minutes? But no. They instead decided the strategy of "get Ind playing at any cost". Pretty much saying without saying, "we need Ind" "we cannot survive without Ind".

For that to happen India would have to had to pull out.
They seemed overly keen to play - even agreeing to reciprocate the hybrid model for the next world cup to ensure their participation in this champions trophy.

Why would the ICC rock the apple cart? It was a win win win on every front for them.

Why should the ICC wait for India to pull out? They could have just set a deadline to say yes or no to India. If they don't hear from them, move on to SL. Simple as. Instead they went on this dragged out "negotiation" to get India in at all cost.

But you are right. It's win all around. Everyone makes $$$$.

This CT feels like yet another crammed tournament in a busy international schedule for players from all countries. Honestly, who the hell still follows an ODI game for 8 hours other than die hard cricket fans? Even I do not watch most of the ODI games other than the first 15 and the final 10 overs. The middle overs are a drag.

I hope ICC eliminated ODI. It should be Tests for old timers and T20's for younger generation. The game should be over in under 4 hours.

What cost was there to the ICC here? Pakistan and India both shook hands on hybrids.

For once the ICC played a blinder.

It will become a T20 champions trophy unless India or Pakistan win this edition.

India and Pakistan have to be in Top 3 favorities. I don't see Australia and SA winning this with their weakened bowling attacks. NZ should be the third favorite.

England still has a gun team. But their bowling was exposed in the recent Ind-Eng series. One dimensional express bowling did not work against India.

It is a terrible tournament. FOrmat is poor. Leaving out regular teams like Srilanka, West Indies is very poor. Also this top 8 nations concept is a BS concept. Bangladesh is only in top 8 on paper, technically. They shouldn't even be part of CT if it is only between top teams. If they really want cricket to grow you shouldn't be having these pointless tournaments where even regular nations don't get to play.

Rourke and Jamieson bowling in tandem against India would be a nightmare, hopefully Nz doesn't pick Jamieson in the eleven.

Not the right choice of word. What I meant was, ICC focusing only on Get India in, Get India in, Get India in.

Never was it ever a time where they said, ok, you lose we move on to replace you with SL. Very poor from the ICC.

NZ is high on confidence after 3-0 win. Besides India plays almost the same team that played Test series. Old scars will still be there. Besides NZ generally does well against India in ICC tournaments. Even if they lose they give hell of a fight.
