A great lady who worked with edhi saab and carried on the work even after edhi saab passed away.

Sad day for Pakistan

Bilquis Bano Edhi, the wife of renowned humanitarian and philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi, passed away at the age of 74 on Friday after a brief hospitalisation.

Earlier today, her family had said that her condition had stabilised. She was admitted to a hospital in Karachi for three days and was rushed there after her blood pressure had suddenly dropped. According to an Edhi Foundation spokesperson, Bilquis was ill for the last one month.

“Though she is not in a serious condition, she will remain in the hospital for a couple of more days,” the spokesperson of the Edhi Foundation Muhammad Bilal had said.

Bilal had added that Bilquis had congestive heart failure and she has already undergone a heart bypass twice.

First Lady Tehmina Durrani had also visited her during Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s maiden visit to the port city on Wednesday.

Earlier, Pakistan’s towering philanthropist and humanitarian was declared the "Person of the Decade'', along with human rights rapporteur of the UN Prof Yanghee Lee and the US ethicist Stephen Soldz.

A spokesperson for the Edhi Foundation had told APP that as per the domino effect verdict, announced on Friday by the Impact Hallmarks, Bilquis Edhi was declared the most impactful person of the first two decades of the 21st century.

Bilquis was a professional nurse and headed the Bilquis Edhi Foundation.

She spent more than six decades of her life serving humanity in need.

Her charity has saved over 42,000 unwanted babies so far by placing "jhoolas" [cradles] at the Edhi Homes and centres across the country.

The pillars of edhi have passed away, yet the system and service they created continues to exist.

They never needed any nobel prize or anything, their own vision was enough..

RIP .”. Bilquis Edhi was declared the most impactful person of the first two decades of the 21st century.”

Wonder if such people will be born again that put others before themselves.

The amazing thing about Edhi saab and Bilquis sahiba was that they never did it for the cameras. They quietly did their work. It never mattered whether they were getting recognition by the people or not.

During a time when corruption was on the rise, the Edhi foundation developed a reputation of being the most trustful. Where your money actually went to the people.

The mullahs bashed them for accepting babies that society considered illegimate. Bilquees sahiba quietly accepted the babies and took care of them and both husband wife helped people without care of what religion the seekers belonged from.

Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Illahi Rajiyoon.

Selfless to the end.

Definition of a jannatee - Inshallah

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un - may Allah SWT grant her the highest place in Jannah.

The mother of Pakistan, born the same day on Aug 14, 1947. The nation will never forget services of the Edhi's. Long live their legacy

Twenty-eight years ago I was abandoned in a baby carriage at the #EdhiOrphanage located in Karachi, Pakistan. You found me, you named me after your mother Rabia Bano, you forged my identity, then you gave me a home. Because of you today…I am a somebody, I have an identity, and I have loving parents to call my own. You fought for woman’s rights, you were an activist, a philanthropist, a rebel for the good cause. You taught me the power of woman, to always have an unwavering sense of self and to be unapologetically ambitious.

Because of you, a little Pakistani girl orphaned at birth dared to dream. Because of you I am an independent woman with a graduate level education and a place in the world to call my own. You gave me opportunity. You awarded me a chance to dream, and you presented me with freedom.

To the world you were Bilquis Edhi, but to me you were Bari Amma (Elder mother). Thanks to you I have two loving parents who made sure I had everything a little girl could have ever asked for. I went to a great high school, got scholarships throughout college, did an internship in NYS Assembly, Bronx District Attorney’s Office, U.S Congress, U.S Senate and went to law school to purse a masters in Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Law. All. Because. Of. You.

For those of you who are reading about Bilquis Edhi for the first time… I want you to know who she was to me, and to all of Pakistan. #BilquisEdhi was a hero, she was a mother to so many orphans (like me) and a powerhouse for humanity.

Losing Bare Abbu (#AbdulSattarEdhi) was tough, but your loss has made me feeling orphaned again today…

My name is Rabia Bibi Osman, and I will forever be a proud #Edhi baby.

Beauty is reflected in genuine humanity - may Allah SwT exalt Bilquis Edhi to the realm of His Special Grace and reunite both husband, Abdul Sattar Edhi, and wife in His gardens of eternal peace.

Moments like this remind us of the really important things that define life and its ultimate purpose, to live in the service of humankind for the Sake of none but Allah SwT.

From Allah we have come and to Him we are returning.
Inna Li-Llahi Wa Innaa IlayHi Raji'un.
