Reham Khan, the ex-wife of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has launched a new political party called the Pakistan Republic Party. She announced the initiative during a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, saying the party will focus on representing women, farmers, and other marginalized groups.
A journalist by profession, Reham rose to political prominence in 2015 after marrying Imran Khan, who was then chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Her involvement in PTI reportedly caused internal tensions, with some senior members opposing her presence. She was later distanced from party affairs. The couple divorced within a year, with Reham later claiming political pressures contributed to their separation.
At the launch, Reham said, “This will be a party of the people — one that rejects mob rule, promotes horizontal leadership, and values lived experience.” She emphasized her goal of legal reforms to improve the lives of everyday citizens, particularly women and farmers. Reham also called the initiative a national mission to restore hope, dignity, and genuine representation.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), she wrote, “I want to involve the public in deciding the manifesto, structure, and direction of this party.” She added that she is already in touch with hardworking individuals across the country who will help shape the party’s future.
This announcement comes as PTI begins a major 90-day protest campaign to demand Imran Khan’s release from prison.
