Sri Lankan cricketers have been barred from eating biscuits in the dressing room, team manager Asanka Gurusinha confimed on Thursday.

"Our physio and trainer are in charge of what food players eat while the game is going on. They have banned biscuits in the changing room," said the team manager. Gurusinha however rubbished rumours of a fight breaking out in the Sri Lankan dressing room where players broke crockery in protest of the biscuit ban.

"The other day there were biscuits in the changing room and I informed the catering staff to take them out as our trainer did not want the players to eat them. There was absolutely no argument with any player or support staff on this issue. In fact, the players were not even aware that biscuits were kept there," Gurusinha said.

The Sri Lankan government had previously issued an ultimatum to the team to either get fit in three months or lose their place in the side after fitness concerns emerged ahead of the series against Zimbabwe. After they lost the ODI series to the lower-ranked visitors, Angelo Mathews stepped down as captain of the team in all three formats, calling it "one of the lowest points" in his career.

Then, the Islanders bit the biscuit against India suffering a humiliating Test series defeat in their own backyard against the World No 1 Test team. Skipper Dinesh Chandimal admitted it was the "worst series ever."

India are scheduled to play five ODIs from 20 August to 3 September. They also play a one-off T20I in Colombo on 6 September after the completion of the ODI series.

:))) What an article.

Its like as if after what PCB did(the players being recalled then being told to go back to the leagues) Sri Lanka cricket Board said checkmate.

There should be a joke of a board award every week.

Asanka when he was playing looked like a player who probably ate quite a few biscuits while playing.

I would have thought that there would be full-time nutritionist as a support staff. Players need to taken care well, and many off-field aspects like food have to managed correctly. Like football, cricket needs such more professionalism and support staffs.

they're not wrong- biscuits are just sugar, oil, flavoring and flour - extremely unhealthy

but you would think the team nutritionist or coach or even the players would know better than to be consuming biscuits during matches

That's okay. They can have ladu, barfi, paiday, ghulab jamin and rass milai instead:inzi

Sri Lankan cricket is actually the funniest thing to read about nowadays. You hear stuff about how the ground staff were left with just their underpants because they had to return their uniform, certain players being picked because they were related to someone working in the SLCB, losing games to Zimbabwe, former world cup winning captain Ranatunga firing shots at certain players and now biscuits being the most specific food item being banned :)))

SL cricketers when they go home.

Thanks God we finally found what was wrong with SL cricket-------------- its biscuit , stupid. :)):))

Oh boy, now we are down to reading news about biscuits from the lankan team? LOL ... I wonder whats next. Like ExplicitAI stated, their news are the most funniest ones.

The Sri Lankan government will set up a four-member panel to probe the sharp cricket slide suffered by the national team. The country’s sports minister Dayasiri Jayasekera announced on Wednesday the panel will convene a seminar within the next fortnight to look into the poor performances.

Sri Lanka has been going through a lean run since 2014, with the retirement of Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene and Tillakaratne Dilshan. It lost its No. 1 ranking in Twenty20s alongside a free-fall in the other formats.

The panel would involve former players, captains, former selectors, coaches, international experts, provincial cricket organisations and the media. It will look to identify the ‘problem areas,’ Jayasekera told reporters.

Since 2014, Sri Lanka lost a home series twice to India, including the recent 3-0 Test whitewash in addition to defeats against Pakistan, Zimbabwe in the One-Day Internationals and the first-ever Test loss to Bangladesh.

Most recently, a section of the crowd unleashed its anger on the players after the team’s nine-wicket thrashing by India in the first ODI, chanting ‘no to politics, give us our cricket back.’ The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) management has come under fire for interference in team selections.

Current cricketing news might be on the low side but this is just taking the biscuit.
