DCP Zone 9, Dixit Gedam stated that the arrested accused has been identified as 30-year-old Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, who entered the actor’s house with the intent to commit robbery. “On January 16, at 2 am, actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked at his residence. FIR was registered and one accused has been arrested. His name is Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, he is 30 years old. He entered the house with the intention of robbery. He will be produced in the court and custody will be demanded. Further investigation will take place later… We doubt he is of Bangladeshi origin…,” Dixit Gedam said.

According to Gedam, the accused came to Mumbai 5-6 months ago. Initially, he stayed in the city before moving to its outskirts. During this time, he worked for a housekeeping agency. “He was using Vijay Das as his current name. He came to Mumbai 5-6 months ago. He stayed in Mumbai for a few days and then in the vicinity of Mumbai. The accused used to work in a housekeeping agency.” In the wee hours of Sunday, Cops announced the arrest of the primary suspect in the Saif Ali Khan stabbing case from the Thane West area of Maharashtra.

What do we know about Saif Ali Khan stabbing case?

Saif Ali Khan, received six stab injuries in his Bandra apartment by a man who intruded for burglary. Police said the entire family – Saif Ali Khan, his wife and fellow star Kareena Kapoor, and their two sons, four-year-old Jeh and eight-year-old Taimur – were home along with their five house helps.

Saif Ali Khan was rushed to a Lilavati Hospital around 2 am, where he underwent an emergency surgery and was declared out of danger, according to doctors.

The investigation is ongoing and Mumbai police is probing further into the case.

They said that he came here 6 months ago, which is a wrong statement. He has been living here for more than 7 years. His family is in Mumbai… This is a clear-cut violation of 43A, No proper investigation has been done," Shekhane told ANI.


Not saying he is not Bangladeshi, but there needs to be a little more investigation and reporting.

A petty robbery gone wrong. The robber wanted to get 1 crore and escape back to Bangladesh and live like a king there.

All rich celebs should get a personal body guard for themselves. Way too many criminals in the society. Some local and some foreign. Poor Saif. A very gentle guy had to go through this. He bravely did whatever he could to protect his family.

I hope the people blaming Modi and Hindutva come out and at least acknowledge that they are wrong.

I 100% agree. Anyone who wants to come to India must do so by applying a visa, not illegally. Any anyone who enters or is currently living illegally here must be made to feel terribly unsafe.

I hope Saif Ali Khan, his family, and his fans will lead a campaign against illegal Bangladeshi-Rohingyas, pressurize the govt to kick them out of India, and we will all support him in this.

Ostracisizing their minority groups and giving them names like mullah/abdul for muslims, rice bags for Christian converts, lassi for sikhs. Then the whole caste conversation. Aryan invasion theory. Dravidians AASI vs North indians. Its crazy how its so different in Pakistan. Pakistan has its own issues but India is a very divided country.

That was how Shariful Islam Shehzad, the man accused of stabbing Saif Ali Khan six times - in a suspected attempted burglary incident - was tracked down and arrested by Mumbai Police Sunday.

Sources told NDTV this morning teams of police looking for Shehzad zeroed in on his location after he paid for breakfast - a paratha - via a Google Pay transaction, presumably on his mobile phone.

Sources also said he used to work at that restaurant, where he received praise for his hard work. The police also reportedly plan to speak to the person who hired Shehzad - a man called Pandey.

From there the accused fled to Dadar and then to Thane.

This was after he earlier jumped from Bandra (where the attack took place) to Dadar to Worli and then Andheri, and then back to Dadar; moving around was how he managed to evade the cops for a while.

A Bangladeshi national living illegally in India, he was taken into custody off the side of a deserted road in the Thane area; in scenes that would not be out of place in a movie, he was hunted into a thicket by the side of the road that was then surrounded before the police caught their man.

He had been on the run since the attack on the Bollywood star at his home in Mumbai's posh Bandra West area (very) early Thursday. The police believe he sneaked past the high-profile building's security by jumping over the compound wall of an adjacent building and sneaking in via a rear staircase.

He reportedly told cops he used the air-conditioning ducts to avoid detection.

A police official said Shehzad took the stairs till the seventh or eighth floor and then entered the ducts, climbing to the 12th floor and entering the actor's flat through a bathroom window. He was seen spotted by the actor's staff, which led to the chain of events that resulted in the attack.

Shehzad was caught on CCTV cameras entering and exiting stairwell, providing clear images that helped the police identify him and track his movements. The hunt included forming 30 police teams, each following separate leads and lines of investigation, including scanning hours of security footage.

The footage wasn't just from Saif Ali Khan's home; in fact, a critical moment was when the cops spotted Shehzad on CCTV footage in DN Nagar in Andheri, which is about 12 km from Bandra West.

He was spotted on a two-wheeler, which provided cops with another way to track him.

In escaping from the police (for as long he did), Shehzad was at a bus stop in the Bandra area till 7am on the day of the attack, after which he made his way on to a train to Worli.

The police also latched on to his phone's signal for a while, but lost that after he turned it off; he told cops he panicked after seeing his photo (from CCTV cameras in the rear stairwell in Saif Ali Khan's house) on TV news bulletins. The last-recorded location of the phone was from Thane.

A little past 2am on Thursday, Shehzad was caught inside the bedroom of the actor's youngest son - Jehangir. Shehzad told police he did not know he was in the Bollywood star's home. In the scuffle that followed Khan was stabbed six times, including a life-threatening wound near his spinal cord.

After the stabbing the suspect fled, changing his blood-stained clothes on the way; the police haven't yet found that piece of the evidence chain, which they will need to match with Saif Ali Khan's blood and prove, beyond any reasonable doubt, that Shehzad stabbed the actor.

Khan was rushed to Lilavati Hospital - in an auto-rickshaw because his private vehicles were not immediately available - where he underwent extensive surgery for several hours. Doctors - who recovered a two-and-half inch piece of the knife lodged in his back - later said he is recovering well.

Shehzad has been sent to police custody for five days.

The police are also checking if he had accomplices within the actor's home.

The lawyer representing Shehzad has argued the allegations are false and that his client is being made a scapegoat because a celebrity is involved. "... nothing (incriminating) has been recovered from him."

"They have not produced any document to prove he is a Bangladeshi national," his lawyer said.

However, the suspect himself reportedly told cops, "...haan, maine hi kiya hai (yes, I did it)".

Saif Ali Khan Stabbing Case: Actor Likely To Get Discharged Today From Lilavati Hospital

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, who underwent surgery after getting multiple stabs during a robbery attempt in his Bandra home, will be discharged from the hospital on Tuesday afternoon.

As per doctors at the Lilavati hospital, they said that Saif Ali Khan will be getting discharged by afternoon today. However, the doctors suggested that the actor needs to rest for a few more days.

On January 16, the actor was stabbed multiple times in an attempt to fight off a burglar during the wee hours of Thursday. The actor sustained six stab wounds, two of which are said to be serious as they are closer to his spine.

The incident took place at 2:15 am when the burglar allegedly barged into their Bandra home, and attacked their house help and then Saif when he intervened.

As per media reports, doctors removed the 2.5 inches of knife from his wound. The actor, who underwent a surgery, has now been shifted to the ICU and is said to be out of danger.

On January 20, the team of medical professionals decided to keep the actor under supervision for one more day.

Mumbai police have arrested the accused from Thane, and have given the statement on the accused being a Bangladeshi national who illegally entered India.

The attacker, identified as Mohammed Shehzad, was a national-level wrestling champion when he resided in Bangladesh.

Earlier, Shehzad had said in his statement that he was unaware about the identity of the actor. He is in police custody after he was produced in the Bandra Court on Sunday.

The accused’s statement about him being oblivious to the celebrity status of the actor seem to be congruent to the statement of the rickshaw driver, who also said that he didn’t realise that he was taking the Bollywood actor to the hospital. The rickshaw driver also said that the actor’s elder son, Taimur, from his marriage with Kareena Kapoor Khan, accompanied him to the police station.

At the time of incident, the actor’s wife Kareena Kapoor Khan was present at home along with other members of the family as they all were sleeping.

As per doctors at the Lilavati hospital, they said that Saif Ali Khan will be getting discharged by afternoon today. However, the doctors suggested that the actor needs to rest for a few more days.

On January 16, the actor was stabbed multiple times in an attempt to fight off a burglar during the wee hours of Thursday. The actor sustained six stab wounds, two of which are said to be serious as they are closer to his spine.

The incident took place at 2:15 am when the burglar allegedly barged into their Bandra home, and attacked their house help and then Saif when he intervened.

As per media reports, doctors removed the 2.5 inches of knife from his wound. The actor, who underwent a surgery, has now been shifted to the ICU and is said to be out of danger.

On January 20, the team of medical professionals decided to keep the actor under supervision for one more day.

Mumbai police have arrested the accused from Thane, and have given the statement on the accused being a Bangladeshi national who illegally entered India.

The attacker, identified as Mohammed Shehzad, was a national-level wrestling champion when he resided in Bangladesh.

Earlier, Shehzad had said in his statement that he was unaware about the identity of the actor. He is in police custody after he was produced in the Bandra Court on Sunday.

The accused’s statement about him being oblivious to the celebrity status of the actor seem to be congruent to the statement of the rickshaw driver, who also said that he didn’t realise that he was taking the Bollywood actor to the hospital. The rickshaw driver also said that the actor’s elder son, Taimur, from his marriage with Kareena Kapoor Khan, accompanied him to the police station.

At the time of incident, the actor’s wife Kareena Kapoor Khan was present at home along with other members of the family as they all were sleeping.

Actually, the sentiment is very anti-Bangladeshi, regardless of who the Bangladeshi PM is at any given moment of time.

To give you an analogy - think of the average Indian's opinion of Bangladesh as the same as your opinion of Afghanistan.

Indian views on Bangladesh has seen a sharp U-turn since Hasina was sent packing. Prior to that there was a lot of trolling on Pakistan sites about how much better the Bangladesh economy was performing. Although the only Bangladeshi I know seemed to think the Indian govt was basically using Bangladesh as an instrument for their own advantage and strangely he was convinced that Indians had been flooding into their employment sector, although I imagine it was the cream of the crop positions they were taking.

They were all praising Bangladeshi economy once Hasina (their agent) was in power.

As soon as Hasina was gone, they started to call Bangladesh next Syria and started to find faults with Bangladesh. LOL. It is funny.

Anyway, I suspect this was an Indian BJP person who attacked Saif.

All those tropes exist in subcontinent too. Also most pan spitters and people who do their business on tracks unfortunately consist of people living in ghettos. The most socially and economically backward community in subcontinent is Muslims unfortunately. Even Mughal desendants live in slums now. Surprisingly similar tropes in Britain too. India must secure its border from illegal Bangladeshis. Both central govt and Bengal state govt need to come together to deal with it. However, we all know they are vote bank for TMC govt in Bengal..so it may be too much of an ask. Central govt, army and BSF need to keep these cockroaches away.

Also, we must ban all sporting ties and trade with this nation. It is due to language barrier, most people in India don't realize how notorious this country is. I personally will be happy if India even extends friendship with Pakistan but not this ungrateful nation. NEVER.

Sheikh Hasina, Saddam Hussein type folks might be dictators to the rest of the world but only after they fell people realized the kind of even more bigger evil powers they were keeping in check and look at the chaos now. Pak never had such a capable leader. Even the generals were doing the bidding of UsA unlike Saddam and Hasina.

Thank god for us we have Modiji and a strong BJP government which puts India first . Can you imagine this kind of instability in a country like India.

But later it came out that the numbers may be fudged.

Most Indians on this forum pointed out the illegal Bangladeshis immigrants problem many many times. Its nothing new.

Bangladesh border must be treated the same as Pakistan border. Anyone trespassing needs to be immediately eliminated on the spot.
