Any fans here?
For those who don't know, he's a critically acclaimed fantasy writer known for his works of epic fantasy which usually take place in a Universe known as Cosmere.

So far I have finished Mistborn series as well as read all the currently published Stormlight archive works and boy can he write.
I have become a huge fan his and imo Stormlight archive even trumps ASOIAF in certain aspects. Mind-blowing stuff really. This man is next Tolkien for sure.

Read the Mistborn books when they first came out which is quite a long time ago now so don’t really remember the details. What I do remember is that they were fast paced and easy reads and interesting throughout.

However, personally I wouldn’t compare them with ASOIAF or Tolkien. Tolkien is almost untouchable when it comes to world building and the Silmarillion can easily pass for the actual mythology of some real ancient civilization. ASOIAF on the other hand is probably the only fantasy series that has pulled off mixing dark gritty realism and medieval history with fantasy elements. I would place the Mistborn books somewhere between Dungeon and Dragons/Forgotten realms and Tolkien/ASIOAF. It is a very nice balance between accessibility/entertainment and more ‘serious’ epic fantasy. That is just my personal take though and the books do seem to be extremely popular (also I haven't read the stormlight books so cant comment on them).

Have heard a lot about him and his series but I've never seen a book of his in Karachi. I hope to read it.

While Mistborn was easy to get into and somewhat less grander, he really hit his stride with the Stormlight books which are as good as any fantasy book out there be it in the world building or the character development. What I esp love about him is the focus he places upon creating rules for the magic in his world which are highly consistent and thus with zero loopholes.
The marvelous writing in the novellas such as Warbreaker and Edgedancer shows how far he has come from his initial days of Elantris.

I didn't compare him with Tolkien but he seems like a worthy successor to him esp with GRRM stuck in writer's block. Also IMHO even though characters in ASOIAF are much better written, what makes Stormlight archive stand out is that there are very few filler(read boring) chapters in it something ASOIAF suffered with after A Storm of Swords.

Also he finished The Wheel of Time of Robert Jordan with rave reviews so there's that as well.

are his books G or PG or R?

I’m not really into YA/fantasy genre but I do like Stephen King. But if you like Brandon Sanderson then you should try Poppy War by RF Kuang. Heard a lot of good things about it.

Fair enough. I cant really form an objective opinion without reading the stormlight books. Mistborn for me while very entertaining was slightly underwhelming. What bugged me was that some of characters despite being well written followed standard fantasy tropes similar to 'character classes' which is why I mentioned dungeons and dragons.

Yes Mistborn while entertaining in its own way was a bit cliched for the lack of better word.
You should read Warbreaker, his stand alone novella taking place on a different planet on Cosmere. Easily his best work so far.

Sadly I already have a long list of books waiting for me. I recently started the Kingkiller Chronicles but found it wee bit overrated despite so many good reviews online. Didn't like Patrick Rothfuss' style of writing at all. Jin Chacha have you read it?

Also plan to read A Wheel of Time series, Discworld series and Dresden files after that. Will probably take the whole next year.

In the same boat as you. Gave up half way through name of the wind. Was a little too slow and meandering for lack of a better description.

Kvothe is probably the most self centered character I have ever seen.

Robin Hobb - Farseer Trilogy, Liveship Traders

Epic world building. Memorable characters. Epic story.

Joe Abercrombie - The natural successor to GRRM

Jim Butcher - Dresden Files/Codex
Alera. Both excellent series.

Brandon Sanderson is, in my opinion, Jim Butcher level, or vice versa.

His writing style possibly limits him in his scope to wander and world build extensively in his writing.

Respectfully disagree but there's no way Farseer trilogy is comparable to Stormlight. It veers too much in irrelevant area and could be hard to get into.

Great timing.

I just picked up Elantris last week. It'll be my first Sanderson book.

Alright so listen it might not live up to your high expectations since it was one of his first books but he has come a long way after that. Edgedancer was where he hit his peak. But I personally loved Elantris too. So go for it you are in for a ride.

Yeah I'll definitely keep that in mind.

Is there a particular order I should follow with his books? I've found a few lists but it seems everyone has their own opinion on what's best.

His Mistborn series is a great read.

I started his Stormlight Archive when it was two books out and its fantastic...but I think I'm going to wait til he finishes this series, however long it takes. I can't read books in a series years apart as I can't remember all the details, plot etc and I don't like to reread books.

But one cannot forget how he marvelously ended the Wheel of Time series, hands down the best fantasy series imo, after Robert Jordan passed away sadly. I was very impressed with his style and pacing as I was expecting a underwhelming written ending. That was also my introduction to his work and convinced me to read his Mistborn series and then his Stormlight Archive

ok chaps, I'm in the market for a good fantasy/sci fi read. What do you recommend. I love fantasy but also fantasy sci fi so give me some good recommendations that wont bore me and are a good read too.

Start Wheel of Time, will keep you occupied for a year unless you have tons of time to read. It's also a finished series, started by Robert Jordan but finished by Sanderson after Jordan died.

It's 12 very lengthy books with tons of character and intricate sub plots and view points. Just a warning

I personally wouldn’t start with the Wheel of Time but I am admittedly biased not a fan of the writing style. I only read the first book and it was way too slow. The book keeps throwing walls of text at you and describes each and everything from the environment to the characters clothes in excruciating detail while the plot itself moves at snail’s pace. Maybe the series gets better later but given the size and scope of the books I really doubt it. Maybe you will like it but I would start with Sanderson.

I have heard it gets better with each book not to mention Sanderson did an amazing job to finish them.

It probably does. For me personally it was too much of an investment in terms of time just to get to the good parts.

I am a massive Sanderson fan and have read every book in the Cosmere universe so far.

While his prose is pretty basic and his dialogue can at times be stiff he is a fantastic world builder and nobody wraps up various plot threads into epic endings like the famous "Sanderstorms". Not to mention his ridiculous work ethic and dedication to releasing books regularly.

I recommend the Red Rising trilogy if you want a combination of sci fi and Fantasy. Extremely well paced and action packed novels.

If you are looking for an epic sci-fi with an excellent grounding in real physics/science and a healthy dose of politics then i recommend The Expanse series.
