Hi

So, I was wondering about team selection and I can't think of any reason other than that it is to give all the reserved* players a shot at world cup selection.

Imagine Arthur & Team Management taking the usual team for world cup and then if they couldn't succeed, there would be fingers pointing at them for not playing players due to vendetta & what-not.

Now, all these guys have 5 matches to prove their worth. They won't complain if they don't get selected for world cup, because they have had their chance. Meanwhile, best could still be selected from this lot, giving more cushion to team selector for selection of only the best from these.

I haven't seen this tactic employed elsewhere in Pakistan Cricket, and I hope I am not just imagining things. The thing that gives me confidence is: when Arthur said something along the lines that we will have the best team ready for England tour prior to World Cup.

So, further fine tuning will be done there in England. Right now it's about plucking weed from the crop.

What are your thoughts?

*By reserved i mean, those who are drama queens about not being selected and have zero net value/addition to the team. Just look at Umer Akmal, guy can hardly field better. Drops catches and is a mess. Others are also more or less like that. Haris Sohail is good. And few others, who would normally be selected

It also gives players from this lot, who are expected to be selected, maximum chance to perform & winning the match without depending upon the usual stars this team is now lacking.

This will greatly improve reliability & better consistency in terms of winning.

What was the logic for picking Yasir Shah?

And based on your logic even Imam should have been rested in place of Ahmed Shehzad.

I am not justifying what they did, only making sense out of it.

Yes, Ahmed Shehzad could have been given chance, but he wasn't in the squad to begin with based on his performance late in the PSL as squad got announced earlier. so bad luck to him

Yes there's no excuses now for the fringe players that they never got a chance.
