Cricket Australia chief executive Nick Hockley has said that the country is open to hosting a tri-series involving India and Pakistan, stating that matches between the two teams is something that “everyone wants to see in world cricket”. Pakistan and India's rivalry has been confined to events sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Asia Cup for the best part of a decade due to the strained relations between the two countries.

The two teams last played a bilateral series in 2012 and have not played a Test series since 2008.

Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ramiz Raja in January proposed an annual four-nation T20 series involving Pakistan, India, Australia and England to be hosted on a rotational basis by the teams.

Cricket Australia Chief Executive Hockley said his board had not discussed the proposal but would be open to hosting Pakistan and India in a tri-series.

"Personally, I really like the tri-series concept. It's worked well in the past," he told reporters in Rawalpindi, where Australia and Pakistan drew the first test in their three-match series.

"We'd be very open to hosting ... matches,"

"There are really big communities of both India and Pakistan living in Australia.

"It's a contest that everyone wants to see in world cricket and if we can help support further opportunities we would love to do that."

Pakistan and India are scheduled to play each other at the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia in October. Hockley said the October 23 match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground was already sold out.

If India is not interested to participate than England can replace them.

I think it would be great to see India v Pakistan, i dont see it happening anytime soon but ramiz in general gets on well with BCCI, he was allowed to commentate during IPL when pakistani players were banned from playing so if anyone can ramiz can but even then it will prove to be very hard under the modi sarkar regime.

This series would work better in England than in Australia

Very good idea. Ramiz was also of the same idea of a quadrangular series..

Quad or Tri if it happens , and going back to those old days of having 3 to 4 teams fighting out for one trophy instead of the bilaterals where they play 5 times or 7 times which is very boring..

Both bilateral and tri/quad series should co-exist.

Doesnt matter where they are played, three good teams fighting for a trophy would be taking it to those old days of Carlton & United , B & H series etc..

Indeed , quite likely if this idea needs to become reality must be in 2023 or 2024... Next PM elections in India is on May 2024 , dont think Modi regime would give a green signal for this to happen..

Of course he'll be in favor lol..

I mean who doesn't want that sweet sweet mint? Hosting India and Pakistan for a two week long T20 tri series would probably earn cricket Australia more than an Ashes series.

Everytime you have India and Pakistan involved in a cricket game its a strong business case. Its the political side that gets in the way.

I have no hopes of Indo-Pak happening.

India-Pak relations have not been improving it's just that the constant bickering has stopped and world is purely focused on Russia now.

But I trust both sides politician to make Indo-Pak series (if it does materialize) as a political talking point.

IK, Afridi and people like them will use such an occasion to prop up Kashmir issue and then Indian politician will get into a mud-slinging match.

Also India's general election is in 2024, so 2023 will be campaign year... and Pakistan is always a hot topic for our bearded premier.

So yeah, not happening.

CA can taste that sweet sweet honey $$$$ <3

I wouldn't be oppose to the series though.

Sometimes, it just took the footwork of David Warner to get the crowd going as Australia's first Test match in Pakistan in 24 years crawled toward an inevitable draw on a lifeless pitch at Pindi Cricket Stadium.

Bat was so dominant over ball that a mere 14 wickets fell across five days of cricket. As the home crowd's appetite for batters piling on runs waned, fans turned their attention back to the novelty of just having the likes of Australian players Warner and Josh Hazlewood out on the field, smiling and waving back to them, responding to their cheers and chants.

Whenever Warner produced some dance moves on the field, including perfect steps to the Bhangra, a Punjabi dance, it brought the people in the crowd to their feet.

"I think the occasion has just really surpassed any concerns about the pitch," Cricket Australia (CA) chief executive Nick Hockley said after the series-opening match ended in a draw.

More than 40,000 spectators spent time at the stadium, holding placards and banners to welcome their favourite players on both teams.

Australia had not played a Test in Pakistan since 1998 because of security concerns. The players are embracing what for them is a new adventure.

Marnus Labuschagne is among the Aussies who've been particularly interactive with fans on social media.

"Thanks guys," Labuschagne tweeted when two of his fans posted a picture holding a banner reading: "Marnus we love you so much we will learn your last name."

Traffic congestion has been a common occurrence since the Australians arrived on February 27. Travelling from the team hotel in Islamabad to the ground in nearby Rawalpindi in bulletproof buses, surrounded by fleet of vans containing armed guards, caused gridlock.

"We're just very grateful for the general public because we can see the traffic has been stopped to allow the teams to come through," Hockley said. "Obviously that causes a fair amount of disruption for people."

He hoped it was a minor negative in the otherwise important process of strengthening the relationship between the two cricket boards.

"We firmly believe in Australia that we need a strong global game," he said. "And a strong global game (means) the best countries are playing regularly against each other. We've got two teams here that are that are extremely strong and very competitive."

Planning for the tour has taken months. Hockley met with Pakistan Cricket Board officials on the sidelines during the Twenty20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates last year and then in December a security delegation visited Rawalpindi, Karachi and Lahore.

Former Test all-rounder Shane Watson and Khawaja, who both have played in Pakistan Super League, were engaged by CA to give advice and a full-strength squad picked.

"Winning away is the pinnacle," Hockley said. The Australian players "have just come off a very successful Ashes series and they want to test themselves in in the toughest conditions."

Pak and India will only play in ICC tournaments. It is not the venue that is the problem here.

More chance of India and Pakistan meeting in a football World Cup final.

Forget it, the Indian Government will not allow this at all.

Modi vs Imran ---not possible
Imran vs Rahul----possible
Modi vs nawaz--- possible
Change the govt if you want to see these type of tournaments:qdkcheeky:qdkcheeky

Well the CA can pull this off. Its a third party organisers, neutral venue.

And yet it goes against everything your politics stands for right now.

It is a fact that India is far too insecure to allow something like a cricket match against Pakistan outside of ICC events or Asia Cup. People in the country might start to think we aren't what they say we are.

Its a foolish attempt by folks who are desperately trying to get Indian cricket revenue into the hands of the PCB. Since "bilateral" cricket isn't going to happen until the Pakistan govt changes its ways and policies against India.
Of course CA knows that it would just be millions in free money, so why wouldn't they go along with it.
BCCI does not need more money with anyways. They are flushed with cash from IPL and may as well extend the IPL further.
All in all, desperate attempt by Ramiz Raza in the name of his stupid so called back channel talks.
Not gonna happen.

Lol just hosting India Pak bilateral series would be enough for CA to prolly double broadcast rights. Current govt stance is limiter and not availability of hosting options

CA simply being begane shaadi me abdulla deewana

Initial discussions are underway between Cricket Australia and the Pakistan Cricket Board for Australia Women, Australia A and the national U19s side to tour Pakistan after the Australian Men’s side have paved the way for possible future tours.

CA Chief Executive Nick Hockley and his Australian Cricketers’ Association counterpart Todd Greenberg flew home after the conclusion of the first Test in Rawalpindi.

The pair started the tour inside the team bubble but, once the Test had started, they left the restrictions behind and spent time exploring Islamabad, including a visit to a blind cricket clinic organised by the PCB and have been impressed by the hospitality shown on the first leg of the tour.

Hockley suggested that, in the future, they hope teams can experience more of the country than on the current trip, during which the squads are confined to separate areas of the team hotels under the tightest security.

“Absolutely I can [see them coming outside of a bubble],” said Hockley. “They’ll put an appropriate level of security in place. I think it really has been the double whammy of Covid plus it being the first time that we’ve toured here, leaving no stone unturned from the security perspective.

“Todd and I, we’ve been out and about, we’ve eaten out, we’ve been to the shops! If we can get through COVID, I’d like to think that we can put in place plans which will give everyone a really fantastic touring experience, Because ultimately that is what touring is all about.”

The joint commitment to touring Pakistan by the Chief Executives of CA and the ACA, who appear to have an uncommonly genial relationship, was a key factor in ensuring the trip took place, but Greenberg said a team talk given by Usman Khawaja, who was born in Islamabad, brought home the significance of the tour to the traveling group.

“There was a moment the night before the Test match when Uzzie got the team together and all of us, the staff, and spoke for half an hour about what it meant to him but also what it meant to the people of Pakistan,” Greenberg said. “I found that very moving – more moving than I thought I would – the way he spoke about the impact that legendary cricketers like Cummins and Smith and Warner, who have never been seen by Pakistan kids, and they probably may only see once in a career, to hear it from him and to hear it explained to his teammates, I thought was very powerful and sent a very strong message to the playing group.”

The planning for the men’s tour, comprising three Tests, three ODIs and a T20I, started 18 months ago and Hockley suggested it is only the beginning of a closer relationship between the two countries and there is a great desire that other Australian teams will play in Pakistan in the future.

The women’s international Future Tours Program is set to be discussed at an ICC planning meeting in Dubai next month, but there are fewer organisational hurdles to overcome for Australia A or U19s tours Australia will eventually jettison its reputation as a nation that has, at times, neglected most countries outside England and India.

“If you look at the likes of Pakistan, Bangladesh, it feels here that 220 million people have been glued to this, it’s a really emerging cricketing power in that sense,” said Hockley. “So, with the relationships that we have built through the course of this process, I can only see us wanting to tour more often.

“What that means is not necessarily just the Australian men’s team, but the U19s, the Australian women’s team, [men’s] A tours etc.

After both New Zealand and England pulled out of their Pakistan tours last year there was widespread skepticism that the Australian tour would take place because of security concerns,

But despite a threat sent via social media to Ashton Agar’s wife, Madeleine, and a deadly bombing attack in the city of Peshawar that killed dozens of people during the first Test, Hockley said there was no concern about the safety of the touring party.

“Obviously, our thoughts are first and foremost with the victims,” Hockley said. “It’s not the first incident during the planning process. Previously there was an explosion in Lahore. What we were able to do was work with the authorities to get really timely information on the motivation behind that and then share that immediately [with the team].”

“We shared it on our WhatsApp group with the players and also shared it with all of the families back home, so I think pretty quickly we were able to understand that it was a particular motivation and there was no threat to the Australian tour.”

“As hard as it is to understand, it wasn’t actually that unexpected for the players and families to have to deal with something like what we did,” added Greenberg. “Because we had prepared them and their families for those types of things.

“Especially the issue on social media that one of the player’s families went through, that didn’t really put a shock or scare through the system because we were prepared for that. And in some respects it would have been surprising if it didn’t. We had so over-prepared for those things that I think that we were in good shape to deal with it.

“There’s an incumbent level of responsibility on all of us to get this tour up. It wasn’t just about this tour, it was actually about demonstrating to global cricket that Pakistan is available for cricket. I think that that was a weight of responsibility on us. I certainly felt it.

“Hopefully it does allow other nations to feel comfortable that this can happen with the right planning and diligence. I really hope that that is the case.”

If India is not interested to participate than England can replace them.

But this will not generate the desired $$$$ which seems to be the motive behind this whole thing.

Eng. and Aus. fans do not follow the shorter versions as much as they do tests.

Not gonna happen.

Agree, someone is seeing a lot of $$$$ in front of them. But not going to happen. The BCCI's focus is IPL and test cricket. The International ODI's and T20's are secondary for them.
