I have pre-loaded the game on PC, so I cannot wait to play this once I get home after work.

What excites me about this addition to the franchise is that for the first time in the series the game will support cross-play (which allows players to play others across different platforms).

So who has bought the game? If you have played it what do you make of it so far?

Yes it's a reboot otherwise it would be a sequel to Modern Warfare 3 and named "Modern Warfare 4".

Basically running out of ideas.

I would rather see the 1998 COD 2 rebooted. A true classic.

Call of duty has fallen out. MW2 was there only good game, but after that they have come up with garbage.

Each year they come out with a new game which just sucks.

None of the COD games were able to match the MW2 level. Man what a game that was.

I remember when Black Ops 1 was being released and people couldn't wait as they expected it to be the next best game after MW2. But it turned out pretty ordinary and after that COD kept sucking.

Hence, i wonder if this newer COD would be any good or not.

Played Max Payne 1 & 2 to death.

They don’t make such games anymore.

Right just been hooked on COD for the last 4 hours or so and I have to say I'm impressed. It's not as good as MW1 and MW2, but this is definitely the best COD game that has been released since then.

I have only played the online multiplayer game mode and so far I have been happy with maps (especially the ones in London). They have been designed very well.

The visuals are awesome and thankfully the game is well optimised, so I can run it on my gaming rig at 1440p in high settings.

Guns I've enjoyed using the most are the P90, MP5 and M4A1. There is also the FAMAS for those who enjoy playing with the burst fire guns.

At the moment I will give it 8.5/10. I will give a more definitive rating once I have played the Campaign.

Yes it's not quite at the same levels as MW1 and 2, but this is worth a buy in my opinion, especially for those who enjoyed these instalments of the series.

That's a great list loved age of empires, think a new one is out soon!!!

Also to add to that list from that time, Deus Ex, Lara 2005, Battlefield 1942 and The Sims

American imperialistic propaganda campaign with apparently the worst multiplayer maps in cod history. Haven’t bothered touching this franchise since black ops 2

I disagree, it's the best COD game since MW2. Sure it's no match for MW1 and MW2 but having seen the reviews, pretty much every review has awarded this at least 8/10 (or 80/100 or 4 stars out of 5).

I have played it for almost 10 hours already and it's nothing like what you are saying.

This is coming from someone who has hated every COD game after MW2, until now.

Never played deus ex, loved B 1942 and Lara cricket, my first cricket game was Allan Border cricket and second Cricket Ashes 97..

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has sold itself as a return to the setting that "started it all." It’s a snappy marketing line that tugs the nostalgic strings of fans who remember the magic of 2007, and it’s not entirely misleading. The warfare is once again modern and, yes, Captain Price is still your likeable squad dad. Yet it's Modern Warfare's moments of unfamiliarity that impressed me—rebuilt weapon handling, ambitious new multiplayer modes, and characters that aren’t the cookie-cutter operatives we've seen in the last decade.

Modern Warfare is an evolution for the series, and it’s exciting. Unfortunately, this evolution is only half-realized in multiplayer. Here, the relics of 2007 clash with fresh ideas. Modern Warfare aspires to be grounded and tactical while giving you the power to pilot your own heavy gunship. For as far as Modern Warfare moves the needle, it still spends so much energy checking the same old boxes.

Shellshock

It’s easy to forget about these complaints in the heat of a match, because Modern Warfare’s action is exceptional. Weapons explode with concussive energy and rattle with recoil until the magazine is spent. Reload animations bask in the moment with motion-captured flare that celebrates a kill and snaps back into place for the next fight.

Facing the lethal end of Modern Warfare’s weapons is often petrifying. Taking a hit doesn’t just flinch your camera and spray blood jelly on-screen. Bullet impacts are loud, disorienting thuds—it feels like my chest is caved in. Near-miss bullets slice through oxygen with the deafening echoes of a military sim. The classic hit marker 'thwoops' are now blunt strikes that form a supersonic flurry of blows, closing on the intoxicating coin flip 'ding' that promises I’ve won the firefight. The violent hum of a helicopter’s minigun drowns out my own weapons, proudly declaring that it's top dog. Its busy soundscapes are facsimiles of real battlefields with drama cranked up to 11.

I can smell the piles of Activision money burned to make Modern Warfare look, sound, and animate this good. And it was worth it, because arcadey shooting has never felt more forceful.

Despite an aesthetic turn toward reality, Modern Warfare’s marquee modes still encourage the unintelligible carnage that cemented Call of Duty’s empire. Team Deathmatch and other core modes remain cyclical meat grinders of kill-die-respawn-kill where the only skill check is the first to click on a head. Oh, and whoever scores the murder-est killstreak—those are back, too.

No Call of Duty thread will be complete without a Battlefield fan crashing the party. :rp

The latest Call of Duty game has been hit by thousands of negative reviews over its portrayal of Russia.

The 16th major title in the series has largely been praised by critics.

But Russian media and users on the review site Metacritic claimed the game was trying to rewrite history and promote anti-Russian propaganda.

A spokesman for Activision Blizzard declined to comment on the user reviews but the company said the storylines were fictional.

In a recent blog, the company said the game did not represent real-world events.

Urkistan
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare was released last week.

The controversy surrounding the latest title stems from its Highway of Death mission.

Players take on Russian snipers along a battered highway in the fictional country of Urkistan.

However, some reviewers, including many writing in Russian, have noted similarities between the fictional road and a real-life thoroughfare that links Iraq and Kuwait.

Highway 80, which connects the Iraqi city of Basra with Al Jahra in Kuwait, was dubbed the "Highway of Death" at the end of the Gulf War in the 1990s.

In February 1991, US-led troops attacked Iraqi soldiers, leaving hundreds dead.

One reviewer on the Metacritic website said the game was "demonising Russia", while another said it pitted "bad Russians" against "good Americans".

A third user said: "The game has good graphics. But the plot is disgusting propaganda and lies."

A hit with critics
Critics have given the game a score of 85 out of 100 on Metacritic.

However, hundreds of zero-score reviews have dragged down Modern Warfare's user-generated score to 3.2 out of 10 on the most popular Playstation 4 (PS4) platform.

In total, there are more than 4,000 negative reviews from gamers playing on a PC, PS4 or Xbox, compared with just over 1,500 positive reviews.

Russian backlash
Russian media have also criticised the latest Call of Duty game.

Maria Kornienko from the BBC's Monitoring service said state TV Rossiya 24 had released a four-minute report criticising Call of Duty.

While the reaction among the gaming community has been mixed, top Russian video blogger Ilya Maddyson has branded the game "too much" on Twitter.

He called for other Russian gamers to "boycott it and show some respect for themselves".

Activision Blizzard has already faced controversy for punishing an e-sports competitor who voiced support for the Hong Kong protests at another game's event.

I really dislike the new CODs these days which are futuristic and too many nonsense stories in between. I also dont like to see celebrities in it as well. Once I notice Lewis Hamilton, shame I couldnt use any of the weapons.

I have downloaded COD mobile and I find playing the old maps on multi player great!

The new COD is as modern as one can get.
It feels a lot like BF4

Finally a COD which wasn’t futuristic.

Loved the campaign!

Couldn't agree more.

I've only played the online multiplayer and although this series will probably never reach the heights of MW1 and MW2, every COD game released after the latter has been a flop up until this year's
edition.

I can't get enough of this lol.

I intend to start the campaign tomorrow, so oh my I have another relentless weekend ahead.

Anyone playing Warzone these days? I can't stop playing it. Currently sitting on 12 wins.

Loved the graphics, gameplay esp shoothouse, I managed to get a few gold camos and then tired of the constant camping. I am back on B04 nowadays.

Yeah there is so much camping on multiplayer. I would recommend giving Warzone a go. Which gold camo guns do you have?

So far I just have a gold M4. Close to getting it on Grau, MP5 and MK Bruen.

There's more camping in Warzone I felt.

Kill confirmed is anything but camping in MP.

Plus the maps in MP are much smaller, so you can weed out the campers!

I got it on Bizon, MP4, MP7. Getting it on SMGs was a massive pain due to longshots grind. I wanted to try warzone but it needed too much space on my PS :danish

I am on BO4 atm, I did a few more gold camos on it, absolutely love the Auger. It melts anyone on anything other than short-range.

'Call of Duty' propels Activision to raise full-year sales forecast

Activision Blizzard Inc (ATVI.O) raised its full-year forecast for adjusted sales after beating quarterly estimates on Tuesday, encouraged by a pandemic-driven surge in gaming and the next release in its blockbuster “Call of Duty” franchise later this year.

The company raised its 2020 adjusted revenue forecast to $7.63 billion from $6.9 billion, edging past analysts’ estimate of $7.22 billion, according to IBES data from Refinitiv.

Videogame sales in the United States have largely benefited as people played more games while staying at home and bought virtual in-game content across platforms, pushing June sales up 26% to $1.2 billion, which is the highest June spend in over a decade according to research firm NPD.

“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare” was the second best-selling game in June across all platforms, according to NPD. Average Twitch viewership for the game shot up about 129% in the second quarter, compared to the first quarter.

The game’s reach was further boosted by the launch of “Warzone” in March, its free-to-play battle-royale extension. Activision said Warzone has reached over 75 million players till date, since its launch.

The company, behind popular franchises such as “Diablo” and “World of Warcraft”, reported total adjusted revenue of $2.08 billion for the second quarter ended June 30. Analysts, on average, had expected revenue of $1.70 billion.

Activision’s quarterly net income rose to $580 million, or 75 cents per share, from $328 million, or 43 cents per share, a year earlier.

Rivals Electronic Arts Inc (EA.O) and Take-Two Interactive Software Inc (TTWO.O) also reported a beat-and-raise quarter driven by their flagship franchises.

Season 5 update today. Can't wait to play it later.

I took a break from BO4 and played a bit shoothouse again, is always a pleasure killing those mid-lane snipers :cummins

I do like Shoot House. On MP, I mostly play Search & Destroy.

The issue I have with MP though is the number of campers.
