The only reason Sarfraz hanging is because of his captaincy.

Why not make Babar captain and Abid a WK and throw him altogether?

Quotes of Abid after the match regarding WK

“ Wicket-keeping has been my hobby (Shoq), but I am available if its the team's requirement; But I am an opener and my focus is mostly on batting; I have been 'keeping since the time I started playing cricket"

It would be better if Fakhar is moved to 5, and have Abid and Imam as openers

These are the averages of players, and compare it to Sarfraz.

The captain has the worst average and second worst strike among top 8 players.

A ALI: 47.75 @ 97.44
I UL HAQ: 53.8 @ 80.5
B AZAM: 54.17 @ 87.08
H SOHAIL: 46.11 @ 85.17
F ZAMAN: 46.61 @ 95.23
I AHMED: 34.00 @ 93.15
I WASIM: 41.4 @ 109.7

S AHMED: 33.9 @ 87.8

Coming to Abid Ali, he has kept wickets in domestics but as a part time keeper. Also at the age of 31 management should try to get the most out of him as a batsman rather than trying to make him into a keeper as well.

Valid questions raised regarding Sarfaraz. We do have much better keeper batsmen then him in Rizwan and Umer Siddiq along with few youngsters so we dont need to make Abid Ali a keeper rather just have any other option to come in.

I kinda want Sarfraz to stay solely because Babar isn't ready for captaincy. Give him another 1.5-2 years.

As for Abid, he is a bit old so I don't want him to keep.

And why are u moving Fakhar down to #5? He's probably the worst player of spin in the team. And the only batsman in the XI capable of 130+ scores.

Abid ali is not an good keeper i have seen his keeping and he has dropped some easy catche.Rizwan can easily replace sarfraz in the odi and test format. We really need to find an young keeper with an average of 30 and can bat at an strike rate of 130 or 140.

He is keeping now against Australia A with Rizwan off the field due to what looks like some bruised fingers.

if he does well let him keep the wickets in next warm up and then we can try him it will strengthen our batting lineup which I am afraid will not work as it is in this practice match

regardless of playing in tests or not..he is definately a keeper we should have in onedays and 20 20s and open and keep

If he was any younger I would've said invest in his keeping skills and all of sudden there's a full batsman right there.

I believe Abid ali should be given the keeping duty in T 20 ahead of Rizwan.

Given Rizwans style not suited for T20 cricket this will be the best possible move and adds to the teams batting as well.

in t20s he is viable but in 50 overs and test cricket he is not good enough. maybe if he was only 22-23 he could be worked on and and he could grow into those roles. but hes too old now to make that investment

Nope, his keeping isn't good enough. He certainly enjoys it though. He should be given a chance in the WACA warm up though and could well replace Haris at 3, as Haris looks in really bad form with bat and in the field.

The commies were certainly enjoying his keeping, not so sure if Yasir Shah was though.

Best option for keeper batsman is Umer Akmal for Odi's and T20. Abid Ali should not play Odi's and T20. His best format is is 5 day test matches.

At this point in time, I’d rather our Keeper bat properly for us instead of taking perfect 10/10 catches and stumpings. So out of all the options, if his keeping is decent I recon he should be chosen over Rizwan in every format!

Hahahahaha Abid Ali is a gun ODI opener!

But his keeping was quite poor. He dropped a couple of catches off Yasir and his technique was bad. He stands up after the spinner bowls the ball and can't take lower catches. The should stick with Rizwan with the gloves as we can't afford to drop Smith, Warner and Labuschagne.

No way a 2nd rate wicket keeper should ever keep for any team - because he is a good batsmen.

Wicket keeping mistakes add 100s of runs to opposition totals in tests and 50-100 runs in ODIs - as we have seen in Pakistan's case for many series in UK and Australia.

Abid Ali can't make up that gap with his batting.

He should work with Rashid Latif on his keeping... Definitely will play whiteball cricket

i dont know whether to cry or laugh at you.... Umar Akmal shld not even be picked for a Grade3 team ... the most useless person and an investment that is bound to be doomed

agreed with that you need a specialist keeper only in 50 overs you can get away with it, I think in Tests and T20s your keeping should be making a difference, we have seen Jonny Bairstow and Buttler despite being excellent batsman make so many mistakes with the gloves that it costs the team. But for Pakistan our problem has been that even our specialist keepers have been so bad (Sarfaraz and Kakmal) that Abid Ali is probably better than them even

No. He doesn't even deserve to be there as a batsman ahead of Rizwan, let alone as a WK.

True. Except Abid may not make enough runs to compensate for his mistakes. Bairstow and Butler have plenty of cover.

Sarfaraz was a pretty good keeper. Much better than Bairstow and Buttler anyway. And thoroughly outkept Bairstow in almost every test that we played against England in recent memory

yes Sarfaraz was very good at the start, but hes been terrible last 2 years, I dont like Bairstow and Buttler as keepers either, England should stick Ben Foakes hes the best in the world if given a constant run

Now that we have a regional system in place it could be useful if PCB are able to tell FC teams how they must use certain players for the sake of developing the international team.

If Abid Ali was told he must keep every List-A or FC game from now on he could become pretty handy.

He is a long format opener first and foremost, it's rare for openers in the longer formats to be wicket-keepers as well because it's extremely demanding to do both tasks. Plus, he's a part time wicket-keeper at best and at his age, he can't be expected to suddenly enhance these skills at such a high level.
