England’s spectacular collapse in the first Test from a dominant position to an eight-wicket defeat inside two days, with Boland and Starc dismantling their batting, Head smashing a 69-ball century in a ruthless chase, and England losing 9-99 in a session, raises serious doubts about whether they have sufficient mental abilities to recover confidence, fix their technical issues, or challenge Australia meaningfully in the second Test, making an England comeback look highly unlikely unless their bowlers hit the same intensity from day one and their top order finally holds firm.

I think another thrashing is loading for England. They still trail by 70 runs and are 3 down in 2nd inn

You never know.. Stokes produces a Headingley in 2nd inning vs Australia here and with support from capable lower order can score 250 in two sessions. This will allow England to get a 200+ lead.

Then send Aus to bat with a full crack in final session and have them reeling down at 80/6 or something.

I think the headline of this thread should be changed to: 'Can England avoid an innings defeat in the 2nd Test?'

Obviously not.

The Bowlers have failed England big time, It was a 350 deck and they decided to concede 500 with some utterly dreadful bowling.

England has neither good bowlers nor good batsmen including FTB temu Tendulkar. :klopp :kp

England is a country so a plural value so you should use "have" rather than "has".

Regardless, I'm not really worried about criticism about one of the game's all time greats by someone from a country who have lost their last five home games against decent opposition

Australia drawn back to back Ashes in England Along with couble of win in each series .

Ashes is Only competitive in England due to Australia performance otherwise it's another Australia - Pakistan type series .

Even when Australia lost last time in England they won two test in that series.

Where England just surrender in australia and everyone's know the outcome of series in advance.

Now you're looking at it the wrong way

it doesn't matter how dominant a win or loss may be, all that matters is the bottom line and Australia hasn't won in England since 2001 and in India since 2005 (?). That is all that matters.

Its matter a lots . One side is Very competitive in England and very close to win the series while England is Just coming to Australia for a whitewash. Big Big difference.

Save!

England will do well to save an innings defeat…

So much talk of Ashes (just like they start looking forward to next Christmas right after the current one!), so much hype about it a good year or so before every Ashes, yet they bat in such reckless fashion. No spine, no plan, no willingness or determination to grind it out.

It does not matter.

One sided flogging of Eng has become a norm in Aus. It was one of the better side from Eng and Aus was missing 3 main bowlers and yet... Some mental issue.

Aus-Eng is watchable in Eng. We get 2-2 kind of series often there. In Aus, first 2 tests and Eng is often down 0-2.

Team England, for once in your life, stand up and fight back in the Ashes instead of meekly capitulating .. what a bunch of zoft koks.

Lol they can't crawl out of this situation on their best day. Their goose is cooked.

meh .... its a myth that aus is strong at home you know 🙃

Save??? They can only save themselves from an Inning defeat here at most... England is losing this game no matter what

England managed to save themselves from innings defeat otherwise there was no chance.... 8 wickets defeat is still embarassing...
