Can England take this game deep and make a match out of it?

England have been thoroughly outplayed in this test match so far so it is looking extremely bleak so far.

But can they make some sort of come back now in the 4th innings? Root and Cook are both due some runs.

My gut feeling is that this game will be a lot closer than what it appears to be. Hope England can take it to the 5th day and make a match of it :)

99% of the time this should be over by Tea tomorrow. English batting is absolutely terrible.

The top 4 are a joke.

It’s very difficult for this English line-up especially with Bumrah back in the side.

I don’t expect them to draw but I reckon they will take it to the 5th day.

Without their most in form batsman it will almost impossible, but that is beauty of Test cricket. If openers can survive first hour and sun comes out for Cook and Root to bed in, they can put up a decent fight.

You lot over-estimate Indian bowling in relatively flat conditions especially with Ashwin injured.

England will take it into day 5.

I feel the same to,I think Bumrah bowled well today inthe final moments, hopefully he can do the same tmrw.

No chance. I would be surprised if this lot could bat out sixty overs.

Atherton, a prime Cook and Collingwood might give me pause for slim hope. But this team does not know, or has forgotten how to dig in.

Or Bob Woolmer. He knew how to block.

Even Botham held Pakistan off for a whole day once.

Don't write them off. This series is a bizarre series. Anything can happen. Curren can make 73 runs, Woakes can score 121, Ishant can take 3 wickets in one over, Pandya can take 5 wickets in 29 balls. Cook can get out exactly the same way twice in one test.

Almost impossible for England but miraculous partnerships have happened against india in the past.

Brendon McCullum and BJ Watling on India's last tour of NZL batted an entire day for a 7th wicket partnership to save the match from an almost impossible situation.

Kamran Akmal and Abdul Razzak back in 2005 saved banglalore test from pretty much an impossible situation.

AB Devillers and Faf du plessis chased down almost 400+ against India on the 2014 south africa tour I guess, the match was very narrowly drawn

So you never know! :) Although 99% I back us to win this.

Unlikely. Its not even like a day 5. This is a day 4 only.

Not England, any team in the world won't have survived or save the test unless rain interrupts one complete day of play.

India will win but this is a great series. So every time you've counted a team out, they do something that, while it may not be match-outcome-changing, is still not roll-over-and-die.

Actually wud be fun if that happens.. unlikely england would win but if they cud get to 400+ then it will a solid statement. Having said that generally one batsman stands out in such situations, someone scoring 150ish - cud be cook, root, ollie.

They are 23-0 right now.

Even if they were 330-0 I'd still back India to win by 50 runs.

Target is 521. You need a top order of Hanif, Haynes, Viv, Bradman, SRT, Lara to chase it. Even then India would still be favorites.

A small part of me is going like "Alright lads, this is where legends are made! Chase 521 like your life depends on it! Now go out there, and WIN THIS!!!"............................................................................................................................................................... ahh who am I kidding? England'll get wrecked :mv:vk2.

Exactly ..it is tough to survive that long with pressure of scoreboard. If England are able to chase it somehow, then they are the one of the best team ever that ever played.

Take it hour by hour qnd see where we stand tonight
Dreaming of 320-3 but that is exactly what it is

England don't have the gritty batsmen a la Atherton, Collingwood, Trott etc to even attempt a draw.

Though Stokes appears very determined so far. He could do some rehabilitative activity for himself at the same time.

Good partnership between Stokes and Buttler. I don't think India will be worried yet but if these two are still there when the runs required get below about 250 runs, then the nerves may start kicking in.

Bump!

So England survive until Tea - Stokes and Butler batting well :)

No. All over by teatime.

I was wrong. It's practically over in the first 15 mins.

Not so fast :)

They can get close, Indian bowling in unhelpful conditions is not really that penetrative so as long as sun stays out england should feel ok.

Still 330 runs to get - nice to see some positive application and crease occupation for once, but this is an impossible target and India will win.

Stokes will have to play a Gilchrist type counter attacking innings. 500 plus is a lot but you can never say never, all India need is just one wicket

Quite impressed that the victory margin is down to 200ish runs to be honest. Was looking like double that at one point, which would have been humiliating. At least there has been some effort and fight from England.

Excellent effort from the English, hopefully it doesn't rain out tmrw.

Buttler and Stoke were fantastic with their grit and determination. Something Indian batsmen can learn from them.
Overall an excellent test match.
