Given how amazing Pandya's six hitting ability is, does anyone think he'll be able to dethrone Afridi in the number of sixes he's scored in his career. People should look at the number of sixes Pandya has hit compared to the number of 4's he's hit. His boundary clearing ability is immense.

Well since PPers think Fahim Ashraf is better, I expect him to get there before Pandya. :132:

It's not a feat that an international cricketer keeps in his mind while going out to bat for his country. Even Afridi probably. Given the way cricket is being played today i reckon a top order batsman like Rohit Sharma or Guptil probably has more chances of getting there than some slogger with limited shelf life because unlike the old days slogging starts pretty much from the top itself.

351 sixes?

I think Rohit might get close if he plays close to how many ODI's Afridi plays.

Pandya has 38 fours and 30 sixes, that is ridiculously high in terms of the ratio. Imagine he has some odd games where he smacks over 7 sixes in an innings, that can rack up his tally. I don't think Rohit would make it, he isn't going to score 200 in every ODI.

Fahim is only better in terms of bowling, Pandya is miles better in batting and fielding; no comparisons.

The crazy thing is Afridi did it before it was easy.

Hitting 351 sixes is no feat, Afridi did it after playing around 400 games & cost us alot of matches due to his crazy obession of trying to hit every ball out of park. He seldom showed any respect to good bowling.

What kind of thread is this?

Lala was hitting sixes for fun in Last millennium. He was the T10 batsman in ODI age!!!!

This is a brilliant thread. It will be bumped till the end of Pandya's career..

I think...if Pandya plays close to 350, he might get close

Indian media is masterful at marketing and promoting their players. Pandya gets way too much hype with respect to his abilities, he is another individual with the Virat Kohli type personality.

Impossible.

Afridi hit sixes against any type of bowling, in all types of conditions and regardless of the match situation. You wont find any player who has the mentality of Afridi, let alone the striking power...ever.

I hope so...because selfishly trying to hit a 6 off every ball doesn't deserve any kind of accolade.

People do realize that Rohit is already 30 and Afridi has more than twice as many sixes?

Lol.

Given someone like me who wasn't born in the early 90's, was Afridi really a six hitting monster back in the day in each match? If you look at his stats you can see he has hit 4's 730 times. What I'm saying is that from all those ODI's he's played, has he been a devastating six hitting player in each individual game or was it just those odd sixes in a number of games tallying up all the way to 351?

Pandya looks too comfortable in clearing the boundary so much so that the likelihood of him hitting a six is nearly just as equal as hitting a 4. I don't see Rohit touching Afridi's record at all, he's bound to struggle on pitches that aren't flat, people are making it out as if he's going to score 200 in every game but he's still a quality player. Pandya can smack sixes without tiring so that's another advantage he has to tower all the way to 351.

He just needs another20 matches with Srilanka and Australia he will be within touching distance. You can include West Indies as well. These 3 teams he thrashes for fun.

I don't think he will. I will be happy if he is better than someone who can just hit sixes.

Afridi had an incredibly long career for the type of player he was. As exciting as Pandya is as an LOI cricketer i don't see him having a career even half as long as Afridi's for India.

Rohit Sharma maybe. I don't see Pandya playing enough matches for India in his career to get anywhere close to 351 sixes.

Rohit Sharma is currently at 215 sixes. In 2017, he hit 46 sixes in 21 innings. In 2018, he hit 39 sixes in 19 innings. At this rate, he'll probably break the record before he's 35.

Not every team can afford the luxury of someone playing 400 games primarily for their ability to hit sixes and entertain the crowds. That’s the reason why no one will easily break Afridi’s record unless some hybrid of Gayle and Kohli comes on the scene who averages 70 from 300 odi games scoring most of his runs in sixes.
