Imran Khan changed the face of Pakistani Cricket before as player and captain where the team which just hoped to escape defeat, achieve draws abroad actually shifted its might set and looked to play a more flamboyant attacking brand of cricket. He gave us the best talent pool of players at the end of his career we have ever seen in our cricketing history which served the country for a good 10-15 years.

I believe given the backwardness, international isolation of Pakistan Cricket and the fact we are a good 5-10 years behind the Big 5 teams of the world and with this isolation not ending in sight. His challenge is even more critical this time around.

He has no better opportunity to implement his vision for Pakistan Cricket than today. I understand he has much more significant and more pressing issues to deal with and that Pakistani Cricket is a function of the state of the Pakistani society right now.

Hoping he keeps a solid regular tab on the state of affairs at the PCB and gives Ehsan Mani a complete free hand to implement his vision for Pakistan Cricket.

Should IK and the PTI govt succeed, this might be an even bigger achievement that the 1992 WC victory.

The GDP under Mushy hit 8%, under the PPP it was about the same as the Nooras with low oil prices and both much lower than Mush.

IK has thousands of issues that desperately needs focus first. It’s only because of his legendary status as a cricketer people are expecting so much (on cricket), but he is a PM first now.

I don’t think, it’ll change so soon. First of all, the PCB Chairman has joined when 2018-19 season is locked with schedule & related contracts (players, sponsors, media..). 2nd issue is that one of PAK’s busiest seasons in recent times have just started and it’ll continue non stop till WC - at this point it’s impossible for massive changeovers behind back drop.

The 3rd problem for PAK is that the team itself is in mess beyond quick fix. No leadership in team neither natural successor, players skill level are stuck at one level, players’ mental growth in stuck at even lower level, there is hardly any back up available or if available, key people don’t/can’t recognizing them and there is lack of understanding in own strength.

I was looking in U19 Asia Cup scores - PAK has killed a HK side with fast bowlers & fans got excited with the talunt level..... same HK was killed & buried as well by SRL next day - this suggests from top to bottom PAK cricket has gone in to a glorious minnow basher, which still didn’t get into the fans yet - result unrealistic expectations. Skills are there, so minnows can’t compete yet but skill is little % in a game of cricket, rest lies in mind where PAK players are massively lacking which gets exposed when they face tougher more experienced opponents. Imran Khan can’t solve that over night.

At this point, I'll be happy if EMani is busy to chalk out his game plan both on administration & technical (cricket) aspects - so that he can jump into action, may be in new year - first in administration which will need constitutional amendments, then on cricket just after the WC is finished & a new cricket calander year starts. It’s like national budget - new Govt after election comes & they carry out the last budget for that fiscal year.

To be honest, so far - I am not impressed with the actions that had come out to public, more previously in PP for me, I hardly follow any PAK news sources outside PP for anything. Rather, I am actually cautious with my expectations, from the example of Zakir Khan’s appointment. May be Mani is doing lots of work behind media, which is opposite to his 2/3 predecessors (thank God for that if true), but I haven’t seen any change actually. And, from the Captaincy comment, I have a feeling that guy is soft or procrastinates on hard calls - a common trait of over aged executives, who likes to be comfortable with changes & media/political reactions. PAK Cricket needs a tough cookie capable, who’ll challenge the status co first and be bold enough to call tough shots for the right cause, be it unpopular.
