Why would India risk losing the series trying to go for a win? Even if this test is a draw India retains the trophy. If India is winning 3-1 or losing 3-1 then yes it would make sense to go for it.

why not go for the win and be remembered as the greatest ever team to win a Test series in Australia? For eternity. Go for immortality!

Does holding the trophy really matter. We'll get it back anyway when they come to India :warner

So many amazing things have happened this tour, might as well go down in a blaze of glory.

No but world championship matters..

Aren't you just hoping for us to collapse while chasing? :srini

no man. I think India have played superbly. I would have liked Pakistan to go for the chase in the first Test but we dont have those players such as Rohit, Gill and Pant to pull it off. But Pakistan could have done it in the final session if they didnt lose Rizwan and Fawad

According to the current forecast we probably won't lose any overs to rain. If the openers get to 100/0, we can try going for a win. Otherwise nothing but a blockathon will get us through 3 sessions.

If full 98 overs then Aus should win it. Hoping tail to bail out each time may not work in this pitch.

I think India should go for a draw. They have already done what we didn't even expected, they have already won the hearts 💕.They are just playing with their 2nd eleven. No Kohli, no Shami, Vumrah, Ishant, Umesh, Ashwin, Jadeja... Still they have taken this series to the wire. Bravo. They should eye retaining the trophy. The pitch is deteriorating fast , so no heroics.

Remember Gimili's line in TLOTR? "Certainty of death (loss) ; small chance of success."

This is important day of a entire tour ( ODI ,T20 ,Test ) whoever win the finale day win the tour .ODI - Australia ,T20- India & Test still1-1 .what a epic Series

* Go away in a blaze of glory :D

Exactlyyyy....

The players here have a once in a lifetime opportunity to do something that will stay in the minds of a billion people till their dying breath.

Screw WTC points.

Who cares and who will even remember it 10 years down the line.

Gabba tho... will make you IMMORTAL.

Doesn't matter if the players don't achieve anything else in their lives...

They will be always be known and remembered as those who resisted Aussies against all odds and won in what might just be the greatest test series ever played.

Go for the glory.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Bhai glory ke chakkar m har gye na to puri series ka maja kharab ho jayega .

Loss is almost assured when you go for glory.

The thing they need to do is play positively and see where it takes us.

If not, then try to draw it.

Maybe being positive is the only way to survive on this pitch and mess up the bowlers' lengths.

I know my posts resemble Shastri's bombastic speeches lol..... But I just want the team to be positive and play with an open mind.

Baaki sab dekha jaaega.

No matter what happens, we should be incredibly proud of this team.

Be it a win

Or a close loss

Or a heavy loss

Or even 50 all out.

Bhagwan pe bharosa rakh ke dekhte hain.

There is something about this side and I think whatever happens, they will put up a fight.

And that's more than what I can ask for. :D

People were talking about 60 overs but now news is coming that there will probably be a full days play.

We just have to keep coming at Aussies no matter what...

Thats the mindset we need to have.

Imagine we trying to play for just 60 overs and then being told we have to bat for another 20 or 30.

It will mess up the rhythm.

We gotta expect a full days play Tom and approach it that way.

Haha so true.

Ever heard of the shoot and scoot strategy?

If India win, gloat shamelessly.

If India lose, Ab underground hone ka samay aa Gaya hai.

:P :))

Win is still on. Mayank was looking good in the 1st innings.

Rahane, Pujara, Mayank, Pant, Sundar, Thakur.

Still time to keep :hamster:

Pant ahead of Mayank.

Gutsy India still going for it.

The bravest team on planet earth.

Run Aussies Run

:aag

Pant has to play himself in.

Then it's GAME ONNNNN.

Our plans got derailed a bit after Rohit got out cheaply.

But we are back on track.

Need luck.

Let's see what happens.

Mark may word , Indian fans& Team regret this approach after 10 -15 over when game is done & dusted

4.2 rpo

Very doable.

But then not sure if all overs will be bowled.

So there will be a stage when T20 will be played if all goes well.

I'll be surprised if we don't win this from here on, Aussies have struggled to buy a wicket, can't see them taking 7 here in 1 session.

No need to fear, just go for the win, it is easy.

Bring it down to 60-70 runs in last 10 overs and if you have 6 wickets or more in hand, have a crack at it!!!

Abort mission immediately after 5 down in 10 overs space.

Abort mission if 6 down and 5 overs do to.

Abort mission if 7 down and 4 overs to go..

Bow down to the SIF.

India were all these and didn't abort the mission.

Still can't quite process this win.

This is extraordinary stuff.

Words don't justice to the brilliance of how this coordinated and pulled off.

324 runs to chase in the last day.

Session 1 - 79 runs from 36 overs at 2.19 rpo (score - 83/1 from 38 overs)

Session 2 - 100 runs from 25 overs at 4 rpo (score - 183/3 from 63 overs)

Session 3 - 146 runs from 34 overs at 4.29 rpo (score - 329/7 from 97 overs)

When england won at headingley there was a touch of good fortune about it. Throught the series we have been good value for our win. Essentially 1 session in Adelaide could have derailed our whole series and no one would really have blamed us for it sans our best batsman.

146 runs in the final session of a series is unheard of especially when majority of those runs came from a greenhorn like Pant, simply sensational stuff!

Kudos to you as well for keeping the faith that we'll go for win despite all odds. I personally had resigned to a drawn series.

Yeah....

Looking back it was just one bad session but it didn't feel that way during the series.

When we got bundled out in Sydney, there was an air of inevitability.

It was so hard for our bowlers to focus and Aussies were smashing our mentally dejected bowlers...

We still somehow scraped a draw there and boy o boy.... The way we hit back in Gabba from nowhere..

Even in Gabba, it was almost over when we were tottering at 180/6 in the first innings before 2 incredible innings saved us.

When Rohit Sharma was out in the last day, there was massive pressure again but we fought through all those tough periods.

Its an incredible series really.

The fact that we feel like there was only one really bad session shows the mental fortitude of our players.

They hung on when things were hopeless and clawed back when they had a chance.

No words can do justice to what they have done.

All of us thought we would need a blazing start for us to have a chance but boy did Gill and Pujara flip the script with an entirely new approach.

This is Dhoni, Bevan, Kohli like chase where you stay in control without letting the situation go hopeless and then strike back in the later stages.

GOAT chase.

I just wanted India to go for it cos we will probably never see a series like this again in our lifetime and I am so glad we went for it.

We indian fans still can't believe we did it.

Its was that crazy.

Bro the Gill innings phew. That's as good as an innings I have seen in my lifetime. Playing at opposition fortress, High quality bowlers, scoreboard pressure, series on the line and Pujara not scoring from the non strikers end. Plus your experienced opening partner out. On top of that he played a chanceless innings.
This innings of his should be written in golden words in Indian cricket history!

Yeah, we used that approach during our successful 387 chase against England in '08 at Chennai when Sehwag went all guns blazing and then Tendulkar provided it solidity as ever and Yuvraj finishing it off with some lusty blows.

That was however against a totally different attack on a totally different pitch. This Aussies attack is vastly superior to that English attack.

Indeed.

That guy is a legend in the making.

We all knew it.

He showed it day before yesterday.

Gill and Pujara complemented each other.

Pujara was our insurance policy (imprenetratable goalie) while Gill was our talented striker.

With Gill going hammer and tongs while Pujara blunting it, Aussies bowlers were left confused.

Yes, it does take special skills to do what Gill did while someone is blocking at the other end.... And he did just that.

Maybe that's the script for 4th innings chases.

Solidity from one end and aggression from another.

Once Gill got out, Rahane took his role.

Then once Rahane got out, Pant played himself in and took his role.

Pujara started opening up once he got set..
Tho not as much as he would normally do.

That 21 run over of Starc was legendary. Gave India the momentum and we all slowly started to believe

Bro but not everyone can play like Pujara without throwing it away. Only he can make 13 off 100 balls and not get frustrated on a regular basis. Most players will try to break the shakles and get out in the process.

Pujara is extreme.

No need to bat like him.

Attacker and defender could be a good combo cos you need a set defender at the crease.

Only a handful of us had the belief for the Brisbane test. India will get the highest successful chase today too.

No we won’t.. you guys will post such stuff and leave us fans who are consistent to face the heat lol.

Whether we win tomorrow or lose, nothing is greater than this win.

During the Gabba test, at first I didn't believe we could chase it down.

But after hearing my friend excitedly tell me about wanting to go for the chase, something changed in me.

I started seeing the picture for what it was.

It was a glory hunt opportunity with almost no downsides...

And the way our team was playing, there was always a chance for us.

What happened next was stuff of dreams.

Now coming to Chennai, I don't think it's an easy thing to do at all.

Maybe much harder than even Gabba (even tho nowhere near as prestigious).

But after watching Ishant and Ashwin talk.... I think my perspective may be shifting a little.

What they are saying is that the chennai pitch doesn't break apart, but so there is always an opportunity.

And going by history, but that's true. This isn't a pitch that goes complete rogue.

Watching everyone go on and on about Jack leach's delivery to Rohit, I thought maybe the pitch is a complete demon and it won't be easy at all.

Then I went and watched the replay.

As good as that delivery was, it was followed by some truly horrendous batting.

Rohit wasn't up to the pitch of the ball.

Playing down the wrong line not accounting for spin.

Its natural to get out if you make this many mistakes to a turning ball.

I thought it would have been a Steve o Keefe style delivery in pune 2017 which would cut at 90 degrees sharp out of nowhere but this wasn't like that at all.

Processing everything, I don't think it's complete doom and gloom.

We may still lose (most likely) but if we start off well, batsman will gain confidence and bowlers will lose their line and length slowly.

We have seen that you can score runs at a rapid clip in Chennai so with a good start, we will have a match on our hands... Win, and draw or loss.

Even Pujara talked about pant doing great but needing to show some match awareness today so the team is pretty self aware and not in cloud cuckoo over Pant's magical knocks..

I like the mindset of this Indian team which is...

No matter what, keep going in a sensible way. Baaki Jo hoga dekha jaega.

-----
here's the quotes of Ishant and ashwin
------

"I think it all depends how we start up tomorrow," Ishant said in a chat right after the day's play with Star Sports. "If we get a good start, then I'm sure we can chase this down, because we have a batting line-up who are very fearless. So we are obviously very positive about this, so it's just about the start, and then we look how we go through the innings."

India have had to play catch-up on all four days of this Test so far, having lost the toss and conceded 578 before they were bowled out for 337 on Monday. Heading into day five on a pitch that has shown some signs of the ball keeping low, Ashwin suggested that India aren't worried too much about it, particularly about how it might assist James Anderson and Jofra Archer.

"I think even in the first innings Jassi [Bumrah] got a couple of lbws," Ashwin said when it was pointed out that Bumrah got a few deliveries to stay low on Monday. "There are a few things we need to understand when it comes to Jassi's bowling. The arm path is different to what Anderson and Archer have. And these two [Bumrah and Ishant] are exponents of subcontinent conditions, they've been playing cricket in India. So I think it's a facet of the game that goes unnoticed or unobserved from the outside, which I think might not necessarily happen. We think the wicket will play nicely."

----

This might work or might bomb.

But this is how champions think and I am glad we are on the right track.

Now it's time to go out and execute it properly.

Oh I hope they lose this match

After the Aus series they were way too cocky
Need to reign em in by taking away some of those bragging rights! :babar

Looks like everyone these days wants to go for a win whether it’s 300 or 400 . Draw seems to be like a loss lol

:))) :))) :)))

Whattay flop.

We really lost it in first innings.

Tho losing 6 wickets on last day like this is always a poor performance.

You can chase big 4th innings totals in Australia, NZ, SA and England but anything over 350 is virtually impossible in the subcontinent and WI. The wickets there are usually built to crumble day 4 and 5.

And I agree, India had lost this test In the 1st when Root really destroyed their bowling. That’s the formula to win in India: Bat first, and plan to bat only ONCE

I think those magical expectations should end since this is Kohli captaining the side.

We can still win but we gotta be ahead in the game or someone has to play a blinder.

A team effort defying all odds is almost impossible under Kohli.

Hope i am wrong but it does seem that way.

Rahane the captain was something else.

Yeah, it'll be really hard to recall any close games we won under Kohli. Its either 0 or 1 under him.
