Can Pakistan defeat England in upcoming Test series without Yasir Shah?

He actually got injured in his first Test match. I think the likes of him and Amir are more suited to the glitz and glamour of the shorter format and do not have it in them to grind it out.

Hasan does, Amir doesn't. Hasan has the best attitude in the team.

To answer the question, it has become exponentially more difficult to beat England but it's not impossible. The English batting line up is unsteady, Root is short of confidence, Cook is short of everything, and if Jimmy and Broad can be inhibited in some way, the back up bowlers just aren't that good. Yes Ali had a sparkling summer but Pak should be able to handle him, although England may try Leach who Pak should eat up. Stokes is a restrictive bowler and not much of a wicket threat and whoever remains, Wood or someone else, isn't good enough.

Basically it is Pakistan's batting against Jimmy and Broad.

Watch what Roland-Jones and Woakes do in England.

An important series awaiting, particularly, for Broad.

If he can win the home series against these two Asian sides as standout performer with the bowl, he will surpass Anderson as a test bowler.

I also feel Root will eventually get back to converting 50s into 100s now in this season.

they have been decent in recent times but the reality is they are not out and out world class like JImmy and Broad and if Pak can't handle them, it says more about their batting than the bowling

RJ outbowled both Jimmy and Broad last year.

Englands batting will fair better then pakistans during 2 tests and thats what will win them the series 2-0.

Did he really? I'm just going off of memory but he has about 5 tests, none of them in the Ashes, certainly did well when he played against SA, again I'm pretty sure he didn't play the whole series. Jimmy on the other hand played every England opponent and picked up wickets everywhere, including in Aus where he hasn't always had the best time. He was destroyer in chief against the saffers too, got he ball to swing like he was 29 again and was just supreme.

I don't remember much of Broad in that period and he certainly wasn't having the best of times until the second test against NZ. Still don't think TRJ was that much better, although there could be an argument for that.

I tell a lie.

TRJ got 19 wickets at 19 runs each in four tests last English summer. He got Amla out three times.

Broad got 20 wickets in seven tests at 34 each.

But Jimmy got a remarkable 39 wickets in seven tests at a mere 14 each. In the first three innings of the matches he averaged even less.

Exactly what I thought. Broad has been really up and down but he is still Cook/Root's go to man to try and get a wicket when the going gets tough.

TRJ could be a very good bowler but test matches aren't won on what could be. But hey, let's see what happens.

Of course we can, England haven't defeated us in a Test series since last 8 years and both teams are currently going through a lean patch in the longest format of the game, so there is not much difference in terms of quality between the 2 teams.
