With Sarfraz continuous struggle it seems like it is time to permenantly drop him from a test team. I believe we should be investing in grooming a proper batsman as keeper. Do we have players in our domestic or u19 team that be groomed as Sarfraz replacement ? In past we tried umer akmal in Odis. And then younis Khan as part time keeper. I wonder if somebody like fawad Alam, Salman butt, or anyone from u19 can be a good be fit ? One thing is for sure by
replacement of Sarfraz we will no longer be short of one proper batsman in the team as he is consistently making 0s 10s 20s. I wish he continues in second and third test like this and by end of series gets dropped from from test team on permanent basis.

Test keeper should be specialist in t20s is okay but Sarfraz is doing good for LoIs

Nope. If you want to you have to start off young, find a few good batsmen at under 19 level(the younger the better) who are athletic enough and put them through the program. Narrow down 5-6 batsmen who have high potential as a batsman and maybe we'll find one good wicket keeper batsman.

It is still very rare to have keepers who would average mid 40s. England are lucky to have two or three. Paines and Pants are still scoring in 20s and 30s. Pak are fine with Sarfraz his batting form will come back once he is relieved of test captaincy, but he is not suitable for T20s.

Guru you mean 25 years old Umar Siddique ? Not a safe keeper.

Personally I would prefer Umair Masood but there are issues I have pointed out in my last post here yesterday. Post 109 :

WKeeping is a dying art in PAK. Since Kamran, there hasn’t been a single quality WK, let alone WK-batsman. Between 2004-2006, Kamran came as a genuine potential to become world’s best WK batsman, but he became complacent from 2006 onwards, unfit & over weight as well.

Don’t see a world class WK emerging in near future, because WKeeping is one skill that’s entirely developed from FC cricket - most neglected thing in PCB’s planning. WKeepers need to keep for long to master their skill & develop their body for such work load, which can only happen in longer format. Also, batting as top order in LOs is one thing and batting after 6-7 hours keeping is totally different thing.

Umair Masood was an excellent prospect, but he played U19 like 3 years back and since then hasn’t even made to the A Team, when previously 3 years was enough for top PAK U19 players to make national team. Pant intact was the find of that 2016 U19 WC and he is regular in Test format now, will be in 3 formats within few months. Umair is probably behind Ruhail as well now - that’s behind National Captain, A team Captain, U19 Captain, and may be few others as well.

Having seen 100s of matches of Kamran and Sarfraz. I have not seen much wrong with Sarfraz keeping but plenty with Kamran. Rizwan also does not look too bad but his batting is a big question mark.

Not at all. Missing one catch behind stumps is more harmful than the benefit of making 30 odd runs

I feel the last few words were unnecsessary, should just have left it as "Can Pakistan groom a genuine batsman?"

people actually forget how bad kamran akmal had become, for all his faults, sarfraz has improved his keeping and despite his fast diminishing batting stats hes still better than all barring peak kami in batting terms.

pak is reliant on its bowling, no way can pak afford to have a non specialist keeper. the problem is primarily with the middle order, you cant expect your keeper to save you if they keep failing.

what has Rizwan done to be this disliked by Pak fans.

honestly they guy couldnt have done more then what he has in domestic and list A tours to earn a call up to the national team again.

No, it takes a long time for WK to develop. You can't simply take a batsman and make him a keeper.

The way things are going I just pray Pakistan can produce 2-3 capable batsmen who don't choke one after the other when there is a little bit of pressure.

Absolutely, especially in Tests where fitness is a huge issue for keepers

Abid Ali is a genuine batsman who is a makeshift wicket keeper. But in test matches wicket keeping should be the first priority.

Abid is your best bet if you want to play a genuine batsman - keeper in odis.

I think they should focus on producing good quality 11 players especially batsman. With time a specialist keep batsman will come from such a quality producing system.
