Can PSL become the second biggest Twenty20 league?

Tbh these names that you mentioned have not done much in the prior PSL seasons. Gayle also went unsold in 2017 & 2018 because he didn't perform as expected. Du Plessis and Moeen Ali failed in the PSL for the most part. Franchises will not pick people on reputation forever.

Its T20 cricket. How a player did in one season does not matter as much as what that player is capable of doing. du Plessis is still very good as his performances in the IPL for CSK have shown. Moeen Ali is one of the very best limited-overs all-rounders in the world and was playing a blinder just last week.

Gayle is finished and I don't care if he plays in the PSL or not. But du Plessis, Moeen Ali, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine are definitely players that should be playing in the PSL. Not just because they are outstanding T20 players but also because of the professionalism they can bring to any franchise...not to mention the invaluable advice they can offer to youngsters.

The standard of cricket is very high, some of the overseas picks could be of a better standard but its more to do with the timing that anything else.

If the PCB could shift things so that some Sri Lankans and Bangladeshis are available to dilute the number of substandard English players we have then maybe this could be improved.

This is difficult without a league window, so taking that into account they are doing ok.

I think the standard of cricket definitely would suggest that way.

Rightly so, Cricket is just too popular of a game to not be able to produce quality cricket.

This year and with the tournament in Pakistan the players are doing well.

Yes. It can become the second biggest and second best.

I think BBL is #2 currently but PSL is on the right track.

There is a readily available window. The IPL window. Why not shift to that.

These T20 leagues pretty much cater to local and expat audiences. Very little beyond that. So there is none to insignificant cross audience. The PSL is not going to lose out much on eyeballs.

The other advantage of moving to the IPL window is player availability. There are about 300-350 players registered for the IPL auction. They are competing for about 80-100 slots. So the PSL will have 200 players to pick from.

I disagree with BBL being #2.

A league where some of the big Australian national players don’t even play in due to international commitments.

Also, it drags on for too long, a bit like the IPL where you just lose interest mid way through the tournament.

PSL cannot compare to BPL in financials. Bangladesh has a great economy now and can simply outspend Pk 5:1.

Certainly, PSL can't compete with a league that once wasn't able to pay it's players & coaching staff. Bangla has a good economy the best in South Asia but you cannot say it is a great economy.

No one outside of Bangladesh really cares about BPL & everyone still considers the NT still as a minnow despite being playing test cricket for about 20 plus years.

Check the Dhaka league for serious paisa!

And how many real superstars has this Dhaka League has produced so far with all this supposedly "serious paisa" & I am talking about real superstars not the ones like Shahkib.

It could work but it has two major problems. The first is that it assumes that Pakistan/India times will never be normalised. This means that Pak players are bannd forever from IPL and also that Indian players will never play PSL ( I know this is unlikely but still...).

The second problem is that say a T2 player is discovered in the PSL, perhaps someone like Tim David who is relatively unknown. If that player makes a splash in say the PSL, the 100 and the BBL, then because of the money on offer they will be snapped up by the IPL eventually and wont play PSL again

This scenario will always keep PSL below the IPL, personally I think its fine but I dont think league organisers will want to market their league as just a stepping stone.

Some players can earn even 5 million taka!

Hmm. I think the same from time to time again. Gotta see the data to check if this will be feasible for long term.

Fizz is a global superstar.

He is not even the best Bangladeshi pacer. Ebadot and Taskin are doing better than him currently.

Point is, Bangladesh haven't produced enough good cricketers lately despite the alleged financial muscle.

Do you think BPL is the second best league currently? Which league do you think is second best?

Billions of Taka! There are thousands of Dhaka millionaires/billionaires to invest. Check the Dhaka league for serious paisa!

We are talking dollars here. USD.

PSL 3 year tv rights deal is 36mn usd.

BCB tv rights for 3 years went for 19.6mn usd.

So no, BPL is no match for PCB.

You sure about the figures of BD economy?

'The Hundreds' were a huge hit here in English summer. Packed stadiums, awesome broadcasting and some quality players. I didnt expect a cricket tournament to be such an instant hit considering people dont consider cricket a spectator sport here

So It has all the potential to become 2nd best T20 tournament. PSL need to up its game a little bit.

Never like BBL...not sure why it is so much hyped up.

Wasn’t really a hit.

Tickets were given out free for some games, kids get free entry, and for other games the tickets would be extremely cheap.

There’s a reason why in all the articles relating to “The Hundred”, they disclose figures only for spectator count and not the sales value.

If PCB gives out free tickets for the PSL then we’d have every game with packed stadiums. It doesn’t make it a “hit”.

People should just enjoy cricket.Support your own leagues.I don’t watch any IPL or BPL matches so it is irrelevant for me whether these leagues are good or not.

Mate your economy is made up of fudged data where your ministers are coming each day and release new figures for income. The rate your government is fudging data for income you will pass America in a month.

Just see pictures of Islamabad , Lahore and then go see pictures of your cities. You dont even have a proper 4 lane expressway in 2022 yet.

If Bangladesh is so prosperous then why do Bengalis come to Pakistan especially Karachi to find work?

In the last 20 years no Bangladeshi has moved to Karachi. Some ethnic Bengalis may have moved as they remained loyal to Pakistan, but no one in modern times moves there. Dhaka is more prosperous than Karachi, so no one need move so far.

Fudged data?
Brother don't stoop so low. Bangladesh is booming and our economy is creating tremendous wealth!

Bangladesh is doing well but I think you are getting carried away.Bangladesh is still one of the poorest countries.I have nothing against Bangladesh.I hope it's economy grows but you need to accept the reality.Bangladesh is not Japan or Germany. It has a long way to go.China which the second biggest economy is not a rich country. The salaries in China are still low compared to the rich developed countries. If Bangladesh is a very rich country than why are Bangladeshis working in Middle EAst and western countries?.Many Bangladeshis are working as labourers, waiters, taxi drivers etc.

You are delusional my friend.

After Australian tour of Pakistan next month, all of the remaining doubts about the security situation in Pakistan will be gone and covid will be less of an issue by next season , so PSL will grow a lot in coming years, thanks to the biggest number of cricket follower in the world, 2nd only to India .

Yeap fudged data. I really cant believe a government that comes to power after getting 98% of the vote in a democracy. That doesnt even happen in North Korea.

As for prosperity dude I have seen Dhaka. It has been regularly voted as the most unliveable city in the world. I wouldnt even compare it to Islamabad because that would be an insult to Islamabad but I cant even compare it to Lahore which probably is 20 odd years ahead than Dhaka in most things.

Infrastructure in BD is mostly what we had
in the 90s. This is a cricket forum so that would be my last post in regards to that.
