What was the criteria and process for selecting the squads?
How did these things come into play:
1. Last years squad
2. Player being from that region
3. Number of international players given in each squad
4. Number of under 19 or psl players given in each squad
5. Coach being able to pick players
6. Captain being able to pick players (seemed like captain was also preselected by national selectors)
My point in raising this as it seems somehow they have made the northern squad very heavily loaded with current and former international players, plus some of the better emerging players / psl players. So much so that they have had players like Sohail tanvir or Mohammed amir sitting on bench and while imad wasim hasn't even joined the squad. They have a bowling lineup full of international and current pakistan squad and even the emerging picks they have rohail Nazir, zeeshan Malik, musa, etc. I believe even Sohail Akhtar is on their bench that could have been player in cp with such weak batting.
All this while some of the teams like cp, balochistin and sp are having such weak squads where even someone like saad Nasim is captain getting bowled by Iftikhars medium pace.
I keep hearing Muhammad wasim is the best coach but if you give same team to Faisal iqbal they would start winning as well. So point is either pcb created such imbalanced squads or if it was upto the coaches to pick in some round Robin fashion then clearly all the other regions (barring kp to some extent) were so dumb to pick such poor picks as opposed to northern. And it isn't just a player belonging to region thing as that wouldn't make sense for Balochistan at all and many other players like Malik and hafeez playing for kp where they could have easily put them in cp.
Whatever the process is they should try to make it a bit more balanced for next year. Maybe consider a cap on number of international players or pick both coach and captain and allow them to pick in some draft method for half the spots while pcb could fill in remaining with regional / u19 players, etc.
