What was the criteria and process for selecting the squads?

How did these things come into play:
1. Last years squad
2. Player being from that region
3. Number of international players given in each squad
4. Number of under 19 or psl players given in each squad
5. Coach being able to pick players
6. Captain being able to pick players (seemed like captain was also preselected by national selectors)

My point in raising this as it seems somehow they have made the northern squad very heavily loaded with current and former international players, plus some of the better emerging players / psl players. So much so that they have had players like Sohail tanvir or Mohammed amir sitting on bench and while imad wasim hasn't even joined the squad. They have a bowling lineup full of international and current pakistan squad and even the emerging picks they have rohail Nazir, zeeshan Malik, musa, etc. I believe even Sohail Akhtar is on their bench that could have been player in cp with such weak batting.

All this while some of the teams like cp, balochistin and sp are having such weak squads where even someone like saad Nasim is captain getting bowled by Iftikhars medium pace.

I keep hearing Muhammad wasim is the best coach but if you give same team to Faisal iqbal they would start winning as well. So point is either pcb created such imbalanced squads or if it was upto the coaches to pick in some round Robin fashion then clearly all the other regions (barring kp to some extent) were so dumb to pick such poor picks as opposed to northern. And it isn't just a player belonging to region thing as that wouldn't make sense for Balochistan at all and many other players like Malik and hafeez playing for kp where they could have easily put them in cp.

Whatever the process is they should try to make it a bit more balanced for next year. Maybe consider a cap on number of international players or pick both coach and captain and allow them to pick in some draft method for half the spots while pcb could fill in remaining with regional / u19 players, etc.

Seems Northern too strong, or other sides just not coached well?

Ali Imran, Zeeshan Malik, Hammad Azam, Musa Khan these guys were all nothing special. Even Sohail Tanvir, you can say that all the other teams have an experienced pacer (Gul, Wahab, etc).

Haider Ali had not even played the U-19 World Cup before Mohammad Wasim backed him last year and developed him. After Wasim developed him, only then did Zalmi pick him in PSL.

The selection process was simple, all coaches had the option to choose the players they wanted and could swap players with each other.

Therefore, if Northern is good, it is because of Wasim. Faisal Iqbal or Razzaq would not have the guts to bench Amir or Tanvir or would blame losses on Imad not being there.

Yes, there is a slight imbalance where CP needs an experienced pacer and maybe 1 player can go up and down between Northern and CP (namely, Amir or Tanvir). Otherwise, the teams are all relatively equal and the only difference is a spectacular vision set out by Mohammad Wasim and the excellent captaincy of Shadab Khan, who not only promotes youngsters but takes responsibility for crucial wickets or crucial runs. He also sets the standard in the field, and it is clear to all that Northern is the only team in the tournament that is trying to field well.

I would argue that good fielding is alone worth 1-2 extra wickets per match - at this point, the job is done between a good team combination and allowing dynamic youngsters to play their natural game.

There is no reason that Musa Khan should be doing better than Wahab Riaz. But he is.

Northern is rotating players well......others are not giving that much chance to youngsters

I must also add that CP looks imbalanced because Hasan Ali is unfit. If Hasan Ali was the strike bowler and batted at 7-8 for CP instead of say, Irfan Niazi, the entire shape of the side would look a lot better. Babar is resting - add him and Hasan in and CP can even win the entire tournament.

KPK are automatic contenders and have a heavyweight team of Pakistan “superstars”.

Balochistan despite looking the most imbalanced currently sits in second position halfway through the tournament.

Southern Punjab has made some bad decisions with Saif Badar etc and on other occasions has been unlucky, but they have been competitive in every game.

Sindh refuses to play Hasan Mohsin, Saud Shakil, and Omair bin Yousuf, whose correct utility can completely transform the lineup.

Therefore, if you ask me, the squads are all equally balanced, or are close to equal. The key difference is strategy, backing young players, and understanding team combinations. The credit for this must go to Wasim and Shadab Khan.

Yes defo if CP had babar and Hasan ali they would have won a few more matches most of the games they lost by 20 runs or so.

Eith regarding sindh omair bin yousuf is a very good test player but not suited to t20s has he done anyfink in the second xI?

Overall all the squads are fairly balanced baring kpk they have all the players from international malik hafeez fakhar rizwan iftikhar Shaheen junaid
