Caribbean Premier League 2017 Discussion Thread

Exactly very happy to see that ... UA, AS and HAFEEZ... If CPL can see them as finished why cant PCB and Inzi...

Inzi and Umar have something in common, both don't give utmost importance to fitness, instead they endorse Lahori chargha eating competitions in the dressing room before the match

WTH some of the players were worth 4k? LMAO.

Surprised it's all Pakistani players in the CPL might as well change the name of tourney to CPPL.

CPL held in summer for England and subcontinent which explains the lack of players from other countries

Uhmmm? 6 teams and 7 pak players. Thats like 1 pak player per team.

They have picked players from South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lankan and Afghanistan. That's pretty good. The only really missing are English players. Indian's don't play in any league.

Only Lankan is sanga. BDeshis will be busy with international cricket.

Quite a bit of Pakistan flavor. 8 players is a lot. Pakistan super league helped in that aspect

I think CPL is the 2nd best tamasha league after IPL. I mean afterall it's played in the Caribbean and the local players are as good as foreign imports.

However the timing is a big problem for someone like me :Dhoni

If you look closely you will spot Malinga as well.

really happy to see Imad Wasim and Shadab Khan in the picks and Umar Akmal and Haffez missing from the list is also a blessing... experience of CPL would def help the 2 kids to do lot more for Pak as they are the future stars... surprised tht Babar Azam was not picked.

Kamran, Wahab. These guys are making nothing from this league.

The likes of Emrit, Morne Van Wyk, Sean Ervine, Anamul Haque made more by just travelling to Lahore for one PSL game.

Wahab will get USD 30.000. That is like over 30 lakh pk rupees. That is a LOT of money for a like couple of weeks, for some 1 living in pak.

Sami will get USD 70.000. Making big money at the end of his career.

Kamran?

"Phateechar" PSL players made more than Kamran and almost as much as Wahab in one day.

Umar Akmal is a huge failure in all previous recently concluded T20 leagues. CPL management realized it but PCB didn't. Too bad Umar Akmal can't influence CPL through corrupt elite.

Kamran only got picked for a mere 15,000 bcz of his recent performance in PSL.

perfect opportunity for Umar Akmal to go and work on his technique n game, somehow doubt he will though.

Disappointed not to see umar akmal in cpl though his stats in this league is abysmal happy to see wahab and sami in there I have followed this league quite closely since the first season hope to see some matches in this season too

The reason Umar Akmal didn't get picked is because IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

It's really surprising that some posters still have difficulty coming terms with the fact even after 8 freaking years.

Tanvir does well always in the cpl
Akmal has been horrendous constantly in the cpl
Good to see him not there

Haha Kamral Akmal is going really cheap. Surprised Wahab is getting so little compared to Sohail tanvir.

The stage is set for the Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) to be the biggest and best party tournament to date, after tournament organisers confirmed that the fifth instalment will start on Friday, 4 August with St. Lucia Stars welcoming 2015 champions Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) to the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium.

The 34-game competition, which will be staged in seven countries over a six-week period, will conclude with the finals on Saturday, 9 September, with the name of the host country set to be announced in due course.

The times for the Florida swing of matches have been confirmed, while the remaining start times will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

There will be the usual blend of day and night games, with the starting times to be announced shortly, and the St. Lucia opener will lead into two keenly-contested double-headers in Central Broward Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida (on the weekend of 5-6 August) where Guyana Amazon Warriors will face Chris Gayle’s St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots and Barbados Tridents squaring off against reigning champions Jamaica Tallawahs in back-to-back games.

The action will then move to Port of Spain in Trinidad & Tobago which will run simultaneously with the St. Lucia leg of matches (from the week of 7 to 15 August), before Guyana and St. Kitts & Nevis host the middle legs of the biggest party in sport (from 17-23 August).

As the race for one of the coveted finals berths heats up, the final rounds of matches will be held in Jamaica (from 25 August – 1 September) and Barbados (from 29 August – 3 September). Finals week will begin with a play-off on Tuesday, 5 September before the two eliminators and the finals, which will round off the 2017 tournament on Saturday, 9 September.

Looking ahead to the 2017 campaign, Hero CPL CEO Damien O’Donohoe said; “We are delighted to announce the dates of the Hero CPL fixtures earlier than usual this year which we believe will enable fans, sponsors, media and all of our key stakeholders ample opportunity to plan their trips and holidays for the biggest party in sport.

“Last year was the tournament’s biggest, with a global TV and online audience of almost 150 million and in the region of 250,000 fans attending our games. We are determined to enhance the fan participation across each venue, ensuring an even better experience for the many thousands of fans who will descend on each of our seven host countries.

“Once more we have the best talent in world cricket across our six teams. There has been a lot of eye-catching transfers, with Chris Gayle, Lendl Simmons and Dwayne Smith moving sides in the close season and the likes of Afghanistan’s exciting leg-spinner Rashid Khan, Chris Morris and Kane Williamson set to make their tournament bows. We are excited to welcome such a high calibre of talented, local and international players to the Hero CPL in just a few months’ time.

“It is our pledge to make the 2017 Hero CPL the ‘Year of the Fan’ and there’s a lot of work going on behind the scenes to showcase all that is great about Caribbean culture, society and sport around the world.”

Good news re Hasan Ali. Fakhar needs to be signed by someone- hopefully he/his agent is being proactive.

Updated list of Pakistan players at the CPL:

Sohail Tanvir - Guyana Amazon Warriors
Shoaib Malik, Wahab Riaz - Barbados Tridents
Imad Wasim, Mohammad Sami - Jamaica Tallawahs
Shadab Khan - Trinbago Knight Riders
Kamran Akmal - St. Lucia Stars
Mohammad Hafeez, Hasan Ali - St Kitts & Nevis

That is great news, will get to see more Pakistanis playing. This is what a world tournament win does, you get recognised everywhere. Hoping to hear that Fakhar Zaman and Faheem Asharaf also land something.

Hasan & Shadab should have been blocked. May be, this year it's ok for that 4 month's self imposed isolation, but going forward, 5/6 players should be allowed only in PSL & may be Troposed English league (& IPL, if applicable)

Hasan Ali will be a wanted man in most t20 leagues after his performances in the CT. Suprised Fakhar hasn't picked up a t20 contract though.

Isn't Mohammad Sami banned for match fixing?

He might get involved in Global T20 league for Durban Qalandars

Caribbean Premier League Broadcast Thread

Any1 know where cpl will be broadcasted in Pakistan?

Babar signs for Guyana.

Pakistani contingent is now ten strong.

Do you know how the franchises are signing players this late? It's due to start in two weeks. Have other players dropped out/withdrawn due to injury?

It is withdrawal due to injury.

Chris Lynn is out of CPL because of injury. So they had to draft in someone.

The St Kitts & Nevis Patriots have announced the replacements to their squad for the upcoming Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) tournament which begins on August 4th.

Pakistani batsman Mohammad Hafeez will replace Australian Ben Cutting. Hafeez was a member of the Pakistan squad that won the Champions Trophy in England in June, making 57 not out as his team beat India by 180 runs in the final at the Oval. He has played for Pakistan more than 300 times and will bring a huge amount of experience to the Patriots squad.

Kieran Powell will be replaced by yet another Champions Trophy winner, Pakistani seamer Hasan Ali who claimed 3-19 in that final win over India. Still just 23-years-old, Hasan is one of the most exciting young quicks in world cricket.

Speaking about these replacements, Chief Executive Officer of the Patriots, Richard Berridge, said: “We have been fortunate to get such high-quality replacements that more than cover those players that we have lost. The Patriots management team feel this is the best squad that we have had going into a Hero CPL season and we are very confident of having a fantastic tournament.”

Chris Lynn will have shoulder surgery and won't be able to take part in CPL so they have taken Babar Azam as his replacement, I'm not sure about other's though.

I hope St Kitts plays hafeez in the lower order, so the Pakistan's team management take clue and pla him in lower order and utilize him properly.
