Important tournament with next year's 50 over World Cup. Would like to see Mohammad Haris push on in this format after a good T20 World Cup.

Sindh, Northern and KPK should be up there. CP batting looks light.

Surely there are better bowlers in Punjab than Bhatti and Hunain Shah

Only two positions that are open at this point are 4/5 and 6. Don't see Rizwan being dropped

Really curious to see Kashif Ali play in Pakistan domestics. If he does well, it may raise the call for Pakistan going after him

Surprised to see that theres no Mohammad Hasnain.. Earlier PCB denied him NOC for LPL , due to Pakistan cup, and now he is nowhere.. anyone knows what could be the reason?

I am really hoping for Saim to really show out because he may get the call for the ODI series vs NZ with Fakhar still being out with his injury. Sindh also have Habibullah - is that the same one from the PJL?

Northern look like the best squad and I am hoping Haider Ali can get back to form too.

Maybe if Pakistan want to prepare a proper turning pitch in Tests, they should ask whoever the curator is that produced this pitch in the Northern vs Southern Punjab pitch.

Ball has been turning like crazy since the first over the spinners came in. Hassan Khan currently has 3 wickets in 6 overs while giving up only 11 runs.

If he fails so what he can go back to domestic and learn on his mistakes.

It’s better to bring a ready product, as players get labeled and discarded very quickly in Pakistan setup. 1-2 seasons will only benefit him.

Pakistan international fast bowler Shahnawaz Dahani and Test fast bowler Mir Hamza shared 10 wickets between them to dismiss Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for a paltry 40 runs – the lowest in Pakistan Cup history, helping Sindh to a four-wicket win in the fourth round match of the Pakistan Cup at the NBP Sports Complex on Friday.

In other fourth round matches, defending champions Balochistan defeated Central Punjab by 28 runs, while Northern overcame Southern Punjab by 10 runs.

Sindh v Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, NBP Sports Complex

After being put into bat by Sindh’s captain Omair Bin Yousaf, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa batters never got the chance to occupy the crease as the pair of Hamza and Dahani went berserk with the new ball at both ends. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were bundled out for 40 in 20 overs and only one batter managed to enter double figures.

Dahani, who completed his quota of 10 overs, went for only 19 runs and took six wickets, registering four maidens. Hamza, with his left-arm pace, bowled eight overs and gave away only 12 runs, taking four wickets. He too bowled four maiden overs during his fiery spell.

Chasing a modest 41-run target, Sindh lost six wickets, before achieving the target in the 14th over. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s captain and spinner Sajid Khan took three wickets for 14 runs, while Khalid Usman bagged two wickets for four runs from five overs.

Northern v Southern Punjab, State Bank Stadium

Test cricketers Usman Salahuddin’s unbeaten 81 and Hasan Ali’s all-round performance went in vain as Southern Punjab fell 11 runs short of the 216-run target set by Northern.

Batting first, Northern’s Umar Akmal was amongst the runs again as the middle-order batter scored a 46-ball 49 – the highest score for his side, which included five fours and two sixes. He was equally supported by wicketkeeper-batter Rohail Nazir – who coming into bat at number six – scored 40 off 58 balls, hitting two sixes and one four. The pair added 50 runs for the sixth wicket after half of Northern’s side were sent back to the pavilion with 123 runs on the board.

Northern were eventually bowled out for 215 in the 50th over. Hassan Khan grabbed four wickets for 31, while Hasan Ali took two for 48 in 9.3 overs. Mohammad Ilyas with his right-arm fast took three wickets and gave away 27 runs from seven overs.

In reply, Southern Punjab had a poor start and were reeling at 43 for five, when Muhammad Imran, coming into bat at number seven joined opening batter Usman. The pair added 64 runs for the sixth wicket, before Imran was run out, scoring 33 off 62 balls, hitting one four and a six.

The top wicket-taker in the first innings Hassan soon followed Imran back to the hut, but not before hitting two boundaries during his 22-ball 19. Captain Hasan joined Usman and the two stitched an important 41-run partnership for the eighth wicket, but Hasan while playing too many shots was out caught by Mohammad Huraira off Aamir Jamal for a quick-fire 33 off 19 balls, stroking four towering sixes. Usman stayed at one end, while Southern Punjab lost the remaining two wickets adding 21 runs to the total.

Centuries by Haseebullah and Hussain Talat helped Balochistan beat Central Punjab by 28 runs. This was Balochistan’s second win, while Central Punjab crashed to their first loss in the tournament.

The decision to put Balochistan into bat by Central Punjab’s captain Aamer Yamin backfired, as Balochistan scored 331 for five in their allotted 50 overs. The left-handed young wicketkeeper-batter Haseebullah scored a 138-ball 123, smashing 13 fours and two sixes. He was ably supported by another southpaw Hussain, who returned undefeated on 141 off 122 balls, studded with 12 fours and five sixes. The pair knitted a 211-run partnership for the third wicket.

Central Punjab’s Qasim Akram, with his right-arm off-spin took two wickets for 52 from nine overs.

Down the order, Usama Mir, batting at number nine scored 42 off 26 balls, but after his departure Central Punjab were bowled out with three overs to spare.

Balochistan’s Khurram Shahzad and Mohammad Junaid took three wickets apiece, while Amad Butt took two for 75 from nine overs.

Lol at Usman Slahuddin for going for the not out rather than finishing it for the team. Someone facing 126 deliveries and failing to deliver yet we want this guy in our international team.

Did you watch the scorecard with open eyes? Southern punjab got bowled out in 48.2 overs. They did not face full 50 overs. Usman played slowly because wickets were consistenly falling around him. Moreover , this pitch was a square turner really. 81 on this pitch is worth gold. If some batsman had supported him a bit more he would have finished it easily. Only 11 more runs were required off 10 balls. Never criticise someone blindly.

If you score 81 then you need to finish the game simple as that.

Lol. its not his mistake that other players in his team were just poor. Cricket cannot be played alone. IT requires support from the other end. You have such a poor logic. Guys like you have developed hatred for certain players and whenever you see the name of that player, your mind stops working.Thats why you make such posts.:mw

Name me a time or a post when I have hated a player. You obviously are happy with players scoring 80s not out and losing the game maybe we should play Salahuddin in odis.

Not picking a single player here. But if you finish not out while opening the innings in a run chase then most likely you never showed any intent of scoring quickly. If you are playing with number 10 and 11 then at least at that point show some intent to chase the runs rather than keeping your wicket intact.

I don't know about other posts but the posts above clearly show your hatred for a player. If he had played full 50 overs and stayed on 80 not out then we could say he was selfish. But in this match he had setup the match beautifully for his team to win. They just required 11 off 11 when the last batsman got out. Its not his mistake that the batters on the other hand were throwing away their wickets.SP were 55/5 at one point. As far as selecting him in odis is concerned, there is no need for that. He is too old now for national team anyways. But you need to consider match situation first before criticising any player.

I didn't need to look at the score card my friend, the brief scores tell the picture. Any batsman with half a brain cell would know to farm the strike and take more responsibility of finishing the game off when as you claim others were falling around him and he was left on his own etc. Did he not know for example that they were 7 down , I should start to attack now and look to finish it. That's what world class batsmen do, they take responsibility of finishing it off. Like stokes did for England in Leeds test match on the last wicket and Kusal Janith perera being another example in South Africa. The fact is we don't have world class batsmen or bowlers in Pakistan and we won't get any unless they start playing for the team rather than stats.

do you even remember how many balls leach defended? Same was the case with perera. In case of usman, last batsman could not defend even 2 balls. Everyone needs some support from other end to win matches. Kindly go back and see the scorecard of above two matches to see how many balls were defended by tailenders and then compare them to this match. Your all questions will be answered.

I dont need to check the scorecard, I watched the matches live.
Usman played for himself, not the team and not for the win definitely. Had he gone for the win, he'd have either won it for his team or got out. It was neither, he was not out and pretty evident that our batsmen like to just inflate their averages.
If you hear their interviews with pakpassion.net, they point out exact number of runs they scored and their averages and even remember the not outs. That's how obsessed our players are with stats.
How many times do we hear our players talk about the number of matches they won. Its all about the stats for them and that is why we are ,where we are!
And obviously there's the fans who like to hype the players to the moon and back.
Our journos start to tweet and promote these players too. One journo tweets how Umar Akmal scored a 90 and how brilliant it was but forgot to mention how Akmal failed to take his team home after having got to 90.

Lol at your sad mentality. Not everyone is as selfish as you think.

You know what the actual sad part is, you my friend, just like the players and management are happy with Pak being average. There lies the difference between great teams and okayish teams. We're all the same starting from management through to deluded fans who are happy with mediocrity.
But it's okay, we'll just hype about the champions trophy we won 5 years ago until we fluke the next one.

Sigh, why do they keep broadcasting Southern Punjab matches? No one wants to watch that awful team devoid of any young exciting talent to watch.

Anyone who this Muhammad Junaid is? Looks like he is 20 year old but not sure if he is well regarded or not.

Nonetheless, he just absolutely smashed 4 balls down the ground for 6, 4, 6 & 6. Great clean striking. It looks like he had 2 centuries within a match during QeA 2nd XI that's helped him get promoted.

All of the games should be broadcast or atleast split through the day.

Junaid looks like a WI batsmen the way he is batting. It's either sixes or dots.

I do like how every boundary or six he has hit has been right down the ground in that V shape.

What a knock from Mohammad Junaid. His maiden List A half-century comes off 40 balls.

Umar Amin hits second century for Northern. He is among the top scorers of this tournament and was amongst top scorers in recent QEA trophy as well. Given Azhar Ali's retirement and dire conditions of our ODI middle order he should be someone who should be given a run before the upcoming world cup.

Amad Butt hits a century for his side. Scoring a century when batting at number 8 is no mean feat. Amad has improved his batting a lot and he can be someone who should be looked into T20 side as an all rounder.

Saif Badar and Tayyab Tahir’s centuries helped Central Punjab successfully chase a 348-run target against Sindh in the fifth round match of the Pakistan Cup at the UBL Sports Complex in Karachi on Sunday. The win also cemented Central Punjab’s position at the top of the six-team table with four wins from five outings, while Sindh having four points dropped to fourth spot with two wins and three losses.

Meanwhile, in other fifth round matches, Balochistan’s Amad Butt maiden List A century and an all-round performance by Mohammad Junaid handed Balochistan a 89-run over Southern Punjab at the State Bank Stadium. The left-hander’s innings included 10 fours and nine sixes. Mohammad Suleman was another notable run-getter for his side with a 52-ball 40, hitting three fours and one six.

For Central Punjab, Mohammad Faizan was the most successful bowler with match figures of 7-0-54-3. He was supported by Bilawal Bhatti with two for 58 runs from his 10 overs.

In return, Central Punjab did not have the start they were hoping for as four of their batters were sent back to the pavilion with 63 runs on the board. Opening batter Tayyab was joined by Saif Badar and the duo played shots at will and never allowed the opposing bowlers to settle down. Tayyab top-scored for his side with a 109-ball 139, smashing 10 fours and eight sixes. He knitted a 194-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Saif.

Saif’s undefeated 114-run innings included seven fours and four sixes, which came off 94 balls. After the departure of Tayyab, Saif and Muhammad Irfan Khan got together and helped their side cross the line in the 46th over with five wickets in hand. Batting at number eight, Amad came to the crease when Balochistan were in a spot of bother, losing six wickets for 130 runs. For Southern Punjab, Sharoon Siraj was the pick of the bowlers, taking four for 48 in nine overs.

Four of their batters including captain Hasan’s scores were in 20s, but that was not enough for Southern Punjab to win their second match of the tournament. They were eventually bowled out for 189 in the 36th over.

Junaid, with his left-arm spin took four wickets for 54 from nine overs, while skipper Yasir Shah took two wickets for 40.

Umar Amin among the top run scorer. Is he a domestic bully or PCB has not managed him well ?

Umar Akmal batted very sensibly today he got run out by his partner otherwise he might have even scored 120-130 and he played some exquisite shots. He looks to be in very good touch.
If he keeps performing he could be called back to Pakistan t20is squad atleast. He is so so much better than khushdil Asif and others

Waqar Ahmed scored a fifty and was involved in a century stand for the first wicket with Sahibzada Farhan.

Saim Ayub just continues to be so extremely impressive. Even in games, he hasn't scored big, the consistent thing with him is the strike rate. Cannot wait for this young lad and I hope he has an amazing career.

Kamran continues to be an absolute beast in this tournament and its great to see. Wasn't all that impressive in QeA this season but nice to see him getting it done in List A. I think he is worthy of at least getting a shot at the #4 position for Pakistan to see if he can make it his own. He seems to excel vs spin and Pakistan are very clearly lacking players who can smash spin... and well, the WC is also due to be in India where spin will be a huge factor.

One player who is a bit under the radar but is doing really well is Hassan Khan. He has usually underwhelmed me because he looks like he should be better than his numbers but hopefully this is the start of a turnaround for him. He is bowling really well and batting really well too. Won't be getting on the team anytime soon though with the vast amount of left arm spinners Pakistan have in their system but maybe someone to watch out for if he can keep producing like this.

#BALvSP: Southern Punjab win the toss and elect to bat

Mubasir has played quite the innings today and did it at a time when Northern were struggling & collpasing. Showed some 6 hitting ability too.

Hope has a big PSL too because I can see him getting on the Pakistan's team shortly after that. It's clear how much Pakistan want a middle order batsmen who can bowl off-spin across all formats.

Mubasir brings up a century with a boundary. 100 runs off 60 balls. Spectacular innings.

Qasim Akram comes to bat with Central Punjab down 2 wickets with 0 runs on boards and so far has put up 50 runs on 39 balls. Impressive stuff from the youngster.

Faizan has been batting well with him too - not really sure how much of a prospect he is but so far in his List A career, he has played at a pretty high SR but has not been able to translate that into T20's. Couldn't get into either FC sides at all either - maybe he'll get into a team next season with more teams and see if he is a real prospect or not.
