Despite this squad having tried and tested failures like Shehzad, Hafeez, Azhar, and Junaid, there is a bright ray of hope that comes in the shape of two excellent batsmen: Haris Sohail and Babar Azam, as well as two ferocious fast bowlers in Hasan Ali and Mohammad Amir, not to mention the fresh all rounder: Shadab Khan.

For the first time ever, us fans will have something to look forward to. For the past few ICC events the dedicated and keen fans knew, deep down, that we had little to no chance in winning with the average bunch of players that were selected. The reactions to the squads of the 2013 champions trophy, 2015 World Cup, and the 2014-16 t20 world cups are a testament to this.

I firmly believe that we are incapable of beating teams like England, Australia, India, South Africa in this tourney with our mediocre top order and the lack of power hitters, but we will witness something great in this tournament for once.

Pakistani fans will witness the rise of future superstars.

Haris Sohail and Babar Azam will perhaps replicate or better the exploits of past middle order legends like Inzi and Yousef. They have it in them to go big, and we will see them together for the first time as Haris returns from his injury. A legendary partnership may perhaps brew that could yield thousands of runs.

Hasan Ali has shown tremendous promise with his pace and variations, he has already picked up a 5fer in Australia of all places. While Mohammad Amir is slowly getting into rhythm as seen by the recent West Indies tour. These two fast bowlers are the cream of the crop, and can make us fans relive the 90s.

Shadab Khan was undoubtedly the star of the limited overs matches against the West Indies with the ball, although his batting remains untested in this format. The cricketing world saw potential as Shadab delivered rippers after rippers, bamboozling the men in maroon.

Five Pakistani cricketers will go into this tournament known as youngsters, it is up to fate and their own blood and sweat that will decide who comes out with accolades and honour, who will come out and rekindle the passion of Pakistani cricket fans.

I'd also add Imad Wasim. Still think it's a tad early to call these future superstars but we've witnessed what they can do. It's a shame we haven't got a full team that excites us, but at least there's a backbone to the team.

I agree man. Guys like Azhar, Hafeez, and Wahab will obviously fail, but at least we know that others will perform. There is something to look forward to.

The lack of expectations and being underdogs can potentially work in our favor.

the failure of openers like hafeez and shehzad will place so much pressure on the younger pmayer that it might stimatize for ever.

I m not entirely convinced with Harris batting. He is more of a Test player. He too struggles with rotation of strike, lacks the power game and is susceptible against the short ball. But then beggars are not the choosers as they say

Good post.

Agreed that this is the stage for a 'superstar' to be born / rise up.

It sounds cliched but for example, despite Babar's record breaking performance so far, it is this tournament that will take him to the next level if he can play some key innings. Likewise to the rest of the mentioned players.

I would also add that this is a key moment for Sarfaraz. While not a new player, he has just taken over the captaincy, this tournament is crucial to how the new phase of pak cricket under him will be defined.

However with just two matches standing between us and exit, I hope this is not just a huge anti climax like the last tournament.

Babar has a great opportunity to make a name for himself if he performs well during the CT - legends are made during ICC tournaments and not in bilaterals...

Haris is an amazing player but he is just returning from injury so don't want to get my hopes up too much.

Shadabs confidence will be down after the test disaster and babar too wont be feeling good after the lacklustre test series. I believe that harris should have been given a little bit more time to regain his proper form , he looked rusty in the pakistan cup. Malik will be the key for pakistan of pakistan are to win any games.

I don't even know what this sentence even means 'will cement future legends'
Isnt that just a word salad of the thought : 'players I like will not lose their spot after this tournament'

I dont know if the new stars will be cemented.
But in England when the ball seams/swings and batsman are not moving thier feet and giving edges to the slips...we will be using the word "feet cemented" in a different context.

Very encouraging post however, who else is annoyed by the fact that ppl are still on about Amir gaining back his rhythm. His rhythm from 7 years ago? And it's being around 1 and half years since his comeback.. he's still gaining rhythm??

Excellent opening post.
I will add 'Sarfraz the captain' too. Already on his way to become Pakistan's best ever wicket keeper batsman.

Fakhar
Hafeez
Babar
Haris
Sarfaraz
Malik
Imad
Shadab
Amir
Hasan

This is the only line up that can do well. In that order. Anything else and it will end In tears.
Maybe if it an overcast day we could play Azhar Ali instead of Fakhar, hope to bowl not restricted to 240.
Just pick the above and play good attacking cricket from the get go

The usual thread that we see before every tournament. Nothing to look into here.

I am looking forward to the time after champions trophy hopefully with Sharjeel back (if he hasn't fixed). Dont have much expectations with the current no 8 team in CT.

The biggest difference this time is for the first time in almost 20 years we dont have younis khan tantruming his way into the odi squad before a icc tounament. That act in itself has raised our stock immensely

Should be a great treat for all Cricket Lovers !!! For us though, no need to build any Castles yet, since bigger the Castle we built ..... harder it will be on us in case we don't succeed.
