Who should be dropped?

Ahmed Shehzad

Wahab

Anyone else come in mind??

Add Shoaib Malik and Azhar in the list.

Azhar won't be dropped due to his strong relationship with Sarfaraz. Secondly, he has scored acceptable runs in this series.
Shoaib - he has a build up a strong case to be somewhat consistent in T20s and ODIs. So he won't be dropped, till he flops in 2-3 upcoming series.

only Wahab and Shahzad will be dropped I guess.

I think Hafeez should also be dropped irrelevant of his performance in final and Azhar is not the right choice as the openor but I am willing to be wronged by them.

No one deserved to be booted out more than Riaz and Shehzad. Hafeez should also make up to that list but at least when he is bowling he does contribute something. Myself an Azhar hater ever since he started playing for Pak but only recently I have observed that he is actually an honest trier and does score more often than not but his strike rate needs lot of improvement if possible else hand him as well the dreaded thank you Rose.

Definitely Hafeez, and Imad would be a floater and of course WAHAB.

I see no reason for Malik to be dropped yet.

From the original squad for this tournament, Shehzad and Riaz will be dropped most likely. Hafeez probably isn't going anywhere

Dear Santa Mike this is my wishlist I don't want to see them next series:

Hafeez
Azahr
Malik
Wahab

World Cup 2019 potential starting XI

Fakhar, Babar Azam, Shadab, Imad, Fahim, Aamir, Hassan Ali, Junaid, Ruman, Harris Sohail led by sarfraz make an xcellent squad of 12/15 for 2019. 3 positions open for grab... ideally an opener, a decent hard hitting yet solid middle order batsmen and a pacer. Who can we add to list. My options would be Umar Amin, Hussain Talat (sharjeel if he is cleared now) and M Abbas. Any1 else?

Gonna be more or less the same team with 2/3 changes.

I expect Hafeez, Shahzad and Wahab to have left this team for good by then.

Considering Sharjeel gets banned:

Umar Amin/Fakhar Zaman
Sahibzada Farhan
Babar
Haris
Shoaib/Hussain Talat
Sarfraz
Fahim
Shadab
Hasan
Rumman
Amir

Other players like Rizwan, Nawaz and Ehsan Adil might be there.

Building a squad for WC 2019- who's in and who's out?

Mickey Arthur at the press conference:

"We want to be a little more consistent as a team. We've got a group of young players who are fantastic. We have to keep this momentum going. We're happy with the brand of cricket we're playing. We've got two years until the 2019 World Cup. We now have two years to identify a squad we want to take forward and give them enough game time. That's the aim at the moment."

So my question is simple:

Who should be the 15/20 players we develop as a squad for the WC in England in 2019?

1.Sharjeel
2.Fakhar
3.Babar
4.Haris
5.Omar Akmal/Malik
6.Sarfaraz
7.Faheem/Imad
8.Shadab
9.Aamir
10.Hasaan
11.Junaid/ Rumman

This is the team I would groom for the World Cup 2019. Ideally want one more batsman in the middle order but can't think of any when I look at domestic cricket. This team probably has all bases covered.

Who cares at right now. Imma enjoy the moment.

I understand where you are coming from, but Mickey is keen to build a more consistent team in the shorter format now in order to hopefully challenge for the WC. Would be interesting to see who people think should be given a go...

This would be my Starting XI for the SL series

1. Fakhar Zaman
2. Sahibzada Farhan / Sharjeel
3. Babar Azam
4. Sarfraz Ahmed (WK) (C)
5. Umar Amin
6. Spin Bowling Hard Hitting All-Rounder
7. Fahim Ashraf (Need to develop him into a hard hitting pace all-rounder)
8. Shadab Khan
9. Mohammad Amir
10. Hasan Ali
11. Junaid Khan

Oh and Rumman needs to be in the squad for sure maybe even push Shadab to and Fahim down a spot and Have Rumman in there.

Let's not forget Sharjeel Khan, Harris Shoail, Fahim, Raees and Salman Butt after CT success

Let's not forget these players as we are still in rebuilding stages and there is still good two years left till 2019 WC to prepare strong XI and a very strong bench strength.

Sharjeel Khan should be brought back in top order if he is cleared.
Azhar Ali should be pushed further down in middle order, I would #4 as Malik's replacement if Sharjeel comes back
Harris Shoail should be back and must be given chance on rotation basis vs weaker teams
Fahim, Raees, and other emergin players from domestic system and PSL must be given fair chances vs weaker teams
Salman but shall be part of bench and must be given chance on rotation basis in test cricket.
Backup shall be prepared for everyone to improve bench strength.
Sadaf Hussain must be given few chance s at least against weaker teams and shall be part of bench

Call me a hypocrite but will refuse to support a team that has Salman Butt in it. Do you like sifarishi players btw? There's no basis on which Butt deserves a recall. His test record is a travesty. Embarrassing thread.

Salman Butt

Lol

Trying to sneak that guys name in ?

Over my dead body

That guy is sorry he was caught not sorry to the nation

He makes Lance Armstrong look like an honest man.

Not to mention he has been selfish and slow

On basis of Salman's recent domestic consistent performances, do you really follow domestic results ?

Salman Butt. Get out. Disgraceful player.

Haris Sohail - Deserves a mid order spot. 1 of Hafeez/Malik should be replaced.

Sharjeel IF cleared would be amazing with Zaman.

I really like Raees and what he could bring to our death bowling. But its difficult to see a place for him. Maybe Imad?

I also think I would prefer Umar Akmal in at 5 instead of Malik/Hafeez. But that depends on his fitness.

Salman butt was the man who deceased his own average deliberately... he averages 30 after fixing games and being out for low scores (no one knows how many times)!!! his real average is 100+!!! Salman butt should receive a guard of honour and a quick return to all 3 formats!!! he is the only hope for rebuilding Pakistan and its mess!!!

:amir3
:nasir:shan:irfan
:sharjeel

Since Misbah and Younis gone I will take Salam and move Azhar Ali is middle order for test team. Salam is very technicaly equipped player, has international exposure and PCB and ICC has agree that he has completely served his punishment. Why fuss about him now

Are you insane? Haven't you learnt a thing from this tournament. No place in team for butt or sharjeel.... onwards and upwards with the new generation.

Please do not derail my post, if you don't like Salman's name on my list then strach it, continue to discuss other s and can suggest more names. Our aim to make team more stronger

i would pick 36 year old hafeez any day in test team over salman butt

i think you have no update on the pakistan domestic there is guy called Sami aslam who is twice a

player the 33 year old salman butt is

Salman Butt doesn't have the performance to make it to even the A team

he has 69 runs in his last 9 List A games

and he's on the wrong side of 30. We want to continue to build the team, not go in the opposite direction

1. Sharjeel
2. Fakhar
3. Babar
4. Sarfraz (This is his rightful position, not sure when he or the think tank will realise that)
5. Malik
6. Umar Akmal / Hafeez (The latter is not going anywhere, especially after the contributions with the bat in CT)
7. Fahim Ashraf
8. Shadab Khan / Imad Wasim
9. Muhammad Amir
10. Hassan Ali
11. Junaid Khan / Raees

You lost me at Salman butt :)) seriously bro?

We've got Patla Sharjeel now who is the type of modern player we needed, after a few technical fixes he will become a monster player averaging 40 with a 90-100 strike rate

On basis of Salman's recent domestic consistent performances, do you really follow domestic results ?

If Domestic performances mean so much then guy by the name of Sadaf Hussain would have made the team by now. His stats for past 5-6 seasons have been eye popping. Plus Butt brings too much past garbage with him, he is better out of the team.

And why do we need him anyways? Two test openers for Pakistan will be Azhar Ali and Sami Aslam, and probably Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman as backups.

Ideally I would love for Hafeez to call it a day in ODIs after our CT17 win. Bow out on a high and after a very good performance in the final. If only he had realized 15 years earlier that he needed to bat in the lower order, he would've been a very different player. Thank you for your services, Professor, but we need to build a team that can actually play in the 2019 WC.

Malik, I feel, can stick around till the 2019 WC at least, batting at 5. Has slowly developed into a clutch chaser/finisher (more often than not).

Azhar has proven a LOT of his critics wrong and served them with humble pies. I believe if we have a dasher like Fakhar/Sharjeel at one end, then we can use Azhar till the WC. It's a good combination to have, plus he also did really with Sharjeel when both were opening together. Will give time for someone like Farhan Sahibzada to mature and show his worth in PSL before being inducted into the team.

People who DEFINITELY need to go are Wahab and Shehzad. No two ways about it.

If and when Sharjeel Khan returns what would your top six look like?

Looking ahead to coming games and most importantly our build up to next world cup I would open with Sharjeel and Azhar, slot Zaman in at three due his ability against spin and also the fact that if we do end up losing Sharjeel early we won't go into our shell you still have somebody who will move the game forward. A long as we have attacking batsman around him Azhar Ali is our most reliable opener and more importantly a mentally tough individual who should keep spot hopefully until the next world cup.

Sharjeel
Azhar
Zaman
Babar
Sarfaraz
Ashraf

Sharjeel and Zaman must open - they are far and away the 2 best openers in Pakistan, and we haven't had a good opening partnership since 96 when Anwar / Sohail were going

one of Hafeez, Malik, Azhar will have to go, and I think Azhar may be the odd man out.
If Hafeez goes back to his 90s mentality, then he needs to go to

but I dont see how you can break up the Zaman / Sharjeel partnership where you have the potential to take the game away from the opposition in the first hour of the innings.

Sharjeel is not good enough for me. He is a Leg-Side hack.

He will come off in some games and flop in others. Maybe save him for T20s; in ODIs we need another in the mould of Fakhar - a capable hitter that can rotate the strike and play all around the wicket as the innings builds.

With Sharjeel one feels he won't be around too long; we need to move away from bang or bust players.

Keep Azhar, Junaid, Farhan, and any other promising youngster in reserves. If Malik and Hafeez have good form, and if Hafeez is willing to drop down in the order then they can be in reserves as well.

I guarantee you that Pakistan will reach semis in the 2019 World Cup with this squad, after that it's up to them.

Talat is the only newbie, he has tons of potential, but if he doesn't show up then he can be replaced.

He was in the beginning, but he was shaping up so well, look at his last string of scores vs AUS in AUS vs the likes of Starc and Hazelwood, the best LOI bowlers in the world.

My team to win the WC 2019:

1. Sharjeel
2. Fakhar
3. Babar
4. Harris
5. Umar Akmal/Hafeez/Malik
6. Sarfraz
7. Shadab
8. Amir
9.Raees
10. Hassan Ali
11. Junaid

We don't need Sharjeel.

Pakistan won the tournament without him.

Forget about this guy for the near future.

1. Sharjeel
2. Fakhar
3. Babar
4. Harris
5. Sarfraz
6. umar akmal / sohaib maqsood
7. Faheem
8. Shadab
9. Amir
10. Hassan Ali
11. Junaid / Rumman Raees

How about looking for and grooming better alternatives?

Sharjeel should come in for Azhar.

Either way, Azhar should be replaced by Fakhar's opening partner from Pakistan Cup.

I think Pakistan management have eyes on better openers than sharjeel that are up and coming. Fresh new blood being injected into the team giving us a major boost! Insha'allah bigger and better things to come for Pakistan, looking forward to seeing this team grow

Sharjeel
Azhar
Zaman
Babar
Sarfaraz
Ashraf

I was thinking about opening with Sharjeel and Fakhar which will be next all left handed openers after Saeed Anwar and Amir Sohail

Sharjeel (a straight swap with Azhar, who's not worldclass at the top, but an able substitute)
Fakhar

Harris
Sarfraz

Hafeez / Fawad Alam
Babar (not a no 3 material atm)

Faheem / Imad (conditions dependent)
Shadab

Amir
Hassan Ali
Rumman Raees / Asghar (conditions dependent)

TalentSpotterPk, your WC 19 x1 you'd like to see?

My top 3 would be

Sharjeel
Fakhar
Azhar

Babar doesn't look like he's up for a fight at number 3 the way Kohli or Smith go for it

Do you mean squad ?

I think if Sharjeel & Shahzaib get cleared that both of them will be in the mix for me. Azhar needs to improve his SR. His CT SR was 75, atleast it should have been 83.

If Sharjeel, Shahzaib get banned than Sahibzada Farhan & Ahsan Ali should be groomed. Sahibzada has shown promise. Needs to spend few weeks with Yousuf only.

Usama Mir and Asghar should both be in the mix of things.

Within next 6 months Mickey & Sarfraz has to take a call wrt Hafeez, Malik & Imad. It has to be decided whether they are going to play 2019 WC or not ¿

U Amin, U Akmal (fitness discipline), Hussain Tallat, Yamin (batsman only) should be the replacements.

Haris is a must.

For Pacers these 4 are good. JK has to improve his fitness further and add those 5kph. Rumman needs to lose weight. Meanwhile Atif Jabbar & Ahmed Bashir need to be groomed in Pak A. Sadaf (if he improves his fitness). So incase of Injury the best one can make Pak Team.

Faheem should stay. Fine batsman. His wrist position & ball release need massive improvement.

Imad, Malik & Hafeez have work cut out. Azhar (SR wise)

LOL at people including Umar Akmal in their 11. His days are over.

My team to win the WC 2019:

1. Sharjeel
2. Fakhar
3. Babar
4. Harris
5. Umar Akmal/Hafeez/Malik
6. Sarfraz
7. Shadab
8. Amir
9.Raees
10. Hassan Ali
11. Junaid

This is an ideal team foe the world cup but i'd rather swap Hafeez or Raees for Azhar Ali

Sharjeel and Fakhar should definitely open.

Sharjeel

Azhar is not mentally tougher or more reliable than Fakhar, or for that matter someone like Aslam. Azhar has admitted that when playing with these players he takes confidence from them. More generally, we don't need to be so categorical about whether one player stays or not. We should be building a bench, and new talent that impresses in domestics should always be given chances.

Sharjeel
Azhar
Zaman

Also, I would not be surprised if someone like Shadab or Faheem are tried as a higher order batsmen/pinch hitting openers and do very well.

Agree with TalentSpotterPk

If Fakhar finds feet then he can be in (issues against pace and bounce), Azhar needs to go as his SR is too low.

Ideally we should be looking forward to Sahibzada and Fakhar opening since it's unlikely that Sharjeel will be cleared, If Fakhar doesn't fire in future then Umar Amin to open.

Sahibzada, Fakhar/Umar Amin, Babar, Haris, Sarfraz, Hussain Talat, Shadab, Fahim, Amir, Hasan and Rumman.

Pretty decent team in my opinion.

Great Leap Foward

We won. We really won. But let's not get ahead of ourselves here. There is still massive room for improvement. Ideally, in 6-8 months, the team should look like this:
Playing XI:
1) Fakhar (Aggressive Opener)
2) Sharjeel (Aggressive Opener)
3) Babar (Best batsmen)
4) Haris (Best batsmen)
5) Sarfraz (C) (WK)
6) Talat Hussain (Batsmen who can bowl medium pace)
7) Fahim (Lower order Hitter who can bowl fast medium)
8) Shadab (Leggie who can bat)
9) Amir (Strike Bowler + bat a bit)
10) Hasan (First Change)
11) Raees (Share new ball with Amir)
12th Man: Hasan Moshin (Young All-Rounder)
Any ideas or suggestions?

Sharjeel Khan
Azhar Ali
Fakhar Zaman
Babar Azam
Sarfraz Ahmed
Malik/Hafeez (Malik is better overall but Hafeez is better in England + a better bowler)

Harris is not good enough to be in team... Azhar Ali is 10000x better.

My XI

1. Azhar (Shan e Pakistan.. true Lion.. NOTHING wrong)
2. Fakhar (Play at 90-140 strike rate and complement Azhar)
3. Sharjeel (Score runs Quickly on built solid opening platform)
4. Babar (Rotate strike mainly but score boundaries as well)
5. Sarfraz (Multi dimensional captain Innings but NOT Misbah style)
6. Shahibzada (Strike the ball hard and tough and put pressure)
7. Faheem (Hit sixes and play at 150+ strike rate)
8. Shadab (Hit boundaries with Faheem and rotate strike)
9. Aamer (Slog boundaries and make valuable 30s and 50s)
10. Hasan (Slog around and make good runs confidently)
11. Rumman (Rotate the strike let partner face deliveries)

So... drop Shoaib Malik, Mohammed Hafeez, Imad Wasim

12. Ahmed Shehzad
13. Fahim Ashraf
14. Rumman Raees

One change from the Champions Trophy squad, Shoaib Malik unfortunately misses out due to his poor performances in recent matches.

Wahhab and Shezhad need to go far, far away from this team. No one else should be dropped. I think in the future we should keep Malik and Hafeez in the squad but play only one of them so we can groom a youngsta beauty to replace them.

The squad for the next series should be:

1. Khurrum Manzur
2. Fakhar Zaman
3. Babar Azam
4. Haris Sohail
5. Mohammad Hafeez
6. Sarfraz Ahmed*+
7. Rumman Raees
8. Shadab Khan
9. Mohammad Amir
10. Hasan Ali
11. Junaid Khan
--------------------------------
12. imad wasim
13. Fahim Ashraf
14. new opener

One change from the Champions Trophy squad, Shoaib Malik unfortunately misses out due to his poor performances in recent matches.

rumman raees instead of imad, and haris sohail instead of malik, would also replace azhar ali with khurrum manzur and slowly replace hafeez with an all rounder from domestic

would completely get rid of ahmed shahzad and introduce another opener as an option

i would also look out for babar azam, and to ensure that he performs against good bowling attack in a good pitch

rest looks fine for now

I have one question to you guys:

Has we seen the end of mediocrity era of Akmals?? Or they will make their way back in future?

Sharjeel in and also throw Talat in the squad. This is a good bunch.

Fakhar Zaman
Sharjeel Khan
Babar Azam
Haris Sohail
Umar Amin
Sarfraz Ahmed * (WK)
Amir Yamin
Imad Wasim
Shadab Khan
Mohammed Amir
Hassan Ali
--------------------------
Hussain Talat
Junaid Khan
Shahibzada
Rumman Raees

Great batting with a ton of depth along with top notch bowling. Look out

End of the Road for ....

First of all congratulations for team Pakistan they really out played every team in CT17

this team is gelling up for the best but still we need to fill something as soon as possible , there is no need to keep following players in team in view of world cup 2019

* Shoaib Malik (Always a failures in big events - Pressure situation)
* Ahmed Shehzad (Stop investing in him)
* Wahab Riaz (Pace but brainless line)
* Umar Akmal (huhhh no words)

we as cricket pakistan needs to move on from these players , indulge new players and surely they can bring these extra ordinary moments InshALLAH

Ahmed S, Wahab seem to be packed for good. Cant see them coming back now.

Imad should also be thrown out of the team ASAP as he is becoming too big for his shoes. He is not fit enough and his attitude is shocking to say the least.

Babar A. needs to get fitter and more agile he is very casual and timid which is not a good sign. Already showing signs of the Akmal gene getting complacent.

Malik and Hafeez are no longer automatic selections and they should be given more time off to groom able backups.

We have set foot in the right direction and should continue to move forward from here on.

We can't make too many changes after this. The only change would be Shoaib Malik who is riding off performances against Zimbabwe, WI and Srilanka. Never comes good in crunch games and now with him not bowling he provides us nothing. Like for like swap with Haris Sohail coming in and gives a lefty in the middle overs.

The other change would be to drop Hafeez down the order. For many years we have been talkin of playing Hafeez in the lower middle order and yesterday proved he can be a good finisher.

Azhar Ali for now hangs on to his place for the time being based on his performance but will need to improve if Sharjeel is proven innocent and with others like Sahibzada Farhan and Umar Amin knocking the door.

Azhar Ali
Fakhar Zaman
Babar Azam
Sarfraz Ahmed
Haris Sohail
Mohd Hafeez
Imad Wasim
Shadab Khan
Mohd Aamir
Hasan Ali
Junaid Khan

Subs:-
1-Sahibzada Farhan - back-up opener
2-Umar Amin - back-up middle order batsman
3-Fahim Ashraf/Hasan Mohsin/Aamir Yamin
4-Rumman Raees/Rahat Ali

Time to bring in Haris Sohail.

Should also be looking at removing Ahmed Shahzad as the backup opener.

Hafeez should lowkey be our new #6. :hafeez

Didn't get caught while bowling in an ICC tournament, which means his action is safe. Makes him all the more valuable.

Before 2019 World Cup, following needs to happen. Following are based on domestic performance and not on PP hype.

- Find backup opener for Ahmed Shehzad. As Sharjeel most likely will be banned, have a look at Sahibzada Farhan and maybe even Sami (had a really good domestic one day tournament).

- Find middle order batsmen as backup/replacements for Malik and Hafeez. Haris Sohail, Umar Amin and Talat Hussain are prime contenders. Struggling to think of anyone else.

- Amir, Junaid, Hassan and Rauman are first choice now. But you need to have at least 2 fast bowlers prepared as a backup in case one of the top 4 gets injured. Ghulam Mudassar is one name. Can't think of any others at the moment. Lack of options here along with middle order replacements is a concern.

- Develop Faheem, Shadab and Yamin as lower order hitters/proper batting all rounders.

So Wahab and Ahmed Shehzad go out for me; End of the road for Wahab but Ahmed Shehzad still has age on his side. Malik and Hafeez need to be evaluated after 3-6 months. Immad needs to be put on notice to improve his performance.
