Chris Gayle - 10,000 Twenty20 runs

What does the 10k runs mean in context? He has played a lot of franchise cricket against some ordinary (and i'm being kind) bowling attacks on largely flat, featureless, lifeless wickets.

A very entertaining batsman at his peak though and regardless of numbers, the best t20 bat in the early years of the format.

Thore runs Karachi ke liye bhi bana lete

Gayle got a super road of a track today. He was just swinging his blade and connecting everything.

Gayle is past it and will only look like a joke in the coming years.

PSL pitches are not conducive for stroke making from what I have seen. Too slow and the ball grips and turns a lot. Not ideal T20 pitches where big hitters like Gayle, BMac, Pollard can thrive.

He is actually a very good batsman albeit not very disciplined. His test record speaks for itself. Nothing extraordinary but no country where he has failed at all.

His T20 batting rarely includes blind slogging. In fact, in T20, blind slogging can get you runs like 1/10 times. Intelligent batting does it 7/10 times. Gayle is past it now but most of his career, he has been very intelligent. Taking his time, getting in and then exploding because he knows he can make up for the earlier slower pace.

T20s are the equivalent of spotfests (matches with a lot of moves) in professional wrestling. Most of the newer fans love it while the older fans scoff at it as not actual wrestling but it is in the inevitable way forward.

I think Gayle in tests is very underrated but we're talking about 20s here and the 10k run mark means nothing. It is spread across franchise cricket, with a small fraction in international matches. It means nothing of substance.
