Theresa May has "profound Christian convictions"

https://www.premier.org.uk/News/UK/Theresa-May-has-profound-Christian-convictions

Britain's new Prime Minister Theresa May has "profound Christian convictions", the Bishop of London has told Premier in an exclusive interview.

Speaking after Mrs May was announced as the successor to David Cameron, Rt Revd Richard Chartres said the country was not "facing a Pagan prime minister".

Theresa May, 59, has "profound Christian convictions, not only inherited but also of her own", he said.

Mrs May's father was a vicar in Eastbourne, East Sussex.

She promised to give British people "more control over their lives", after a day of drama in Westminster saw her coronation as David Cameron's successor as Prime Minister.

The Home Secretary will take up office as Britain's second female PM on Wednesday, after Mr Cameron answers MPs' questions in the House of Commons for the last time and goes to Buckingham Palace to offer his resignation to the Queen.

Mrs May was unexpectedly transformed from leadership candidate to prime minister-designate by the sensational decision of her only rival, Andrea Leadsom, to pull out of the race to succeed Mr Cameron, which had been due to last until September 9.

Any opinions? I feel this is probably a good trait, as we have see, Sajid Javed the Pakistani origin conservative MP also has a wife with strong Christian principles, and I think it's a good thing to keep the feckless in line.

Theresa May seems to be a woman of conviction and it's time that the Anglican church asserted itself like it did in days past. The country needs it's identity back and Christianity can play a part in reasserting it.

The former Home Secretary did lose her dad a young age which could have blighted the education she might have relieved but I am sure she will do a decent job nonetheless

The UK will continue to be the UK, dictated by free market economics and a culturally diverse middle-class.

Stop being paranoid.

What are you talking about? If you don't understand how Christianity is elegantly in the background to free market economics then you should probably not comment. Christianity in England is not like the foaming religious fervour you get in the East.

If there's any paranoia here it seems to be on your part seeing some hidden agenda in every sentence.

Good for her. If this makes her satisfied with herself then so be it.

I see a bit panic in this post. Article only said Pagan PM is out. No one is asking the other pagans to leave.

England truly is the America of Europe.

I didn't really get the connection until I read some interesting news lately about Trump's campaign in the US.

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/26/u...-believe-it-evangelical-leader-says.html?_r=0

Has Donald J. Trump become a born-again Christian?

That is the suggestion of James C. Dobson, one of America’s leading evangelicals, who said Mr. Trump had recently come “to accept a relationship with Christ” and was now “a baby Christian.”

Dr. Dobson, the founder of Focus on the Family and one of the country’s most prominent social conservatives, gave his account at a meeting Mr. Trump had in New York on Tuesday with hundreds of Christian conservatives.

In an interview recorded at the event by a Pennsylvania pastor, the Rev. Michael Anthony, Dr. Dobson said he knew the person who had led Mr. Trump to Christ, though he did not name him.

“I don’t know when it was, but it has not been long,” Dr. Dobson said. “I believe he really made a commitment, but he’s a baby Christian.”

As long as Christianity isn't used to discriminate against people which it won't be because we would reject it in Britain then I have no issues with Theresa May's Christian convictions. The thread title is a little disingenuous though the Church on the rise and Christianity marches backs into Downing Street makes her sound like she's some Christian Fundamentalist crusader which she isn't.

Church on the rise is meant to reflect the confidence of a PM proclaiming their Christianity, something that has not always been fashionable in Britain. But yes, Christianity remains a guiding pillar for British policy rather than an overly firm hand.

All UK Prime Ministers have been at least notionally Christian, except Disrelli who was Jewish.

I like christianity. It has amazing history and has guided the modern world . it has contributed towards modern society more than any other.
I juat dont like the missionaries who convert poor people with money.

That's more to do with the enlightenment and the secularisation of Europe and separation of Church and State when Christianity had sole power in Europe with no challenges it brought Europe into a dark age for hundreds of years.

True, it has dark and bloody history too in mid ages. It had infused church in the governance and almost made them a parallel system which didnt work so well for the common men.
But i was talking about modern age.

Good thing is Christanity was able to transform itself out of the dark ages and now the face we see is lot more humane and dont think they are going back anytime soon.

Wait?

An Anglican who isn't a closest atheist?

That's the real big surprise here

Theresa May doing this Christian posturing to get voters in Little England and the Tory heartland supporters. While im happy U.K Secularism isnt like France just keep these statements symbolic. Christianity overall is becoming irrelevant with each passing generation bar for symbolic purposes like Christmas and Easter which have been thoroughly secularised.
